Synopsis
In ancient times, the Human Emperor, Zhao Ming, petitioned on behalf of the people and sacrificed himself to resist the divine realm. After Zhao Ming's fall, his beloved, Hun Dun Zhu, risked her life to save a wisp of his soul, setting up the cycle of reincarnation for eternity. In the distant future, Zhao Ming reincarnated as Xie Xuechen, the leader of the Immortal Alliance, while Hun Dun Zhu became the Holy Maiden Mu Xuanling in the Dark Abyss. The two finally reunited in the mortal realm but had forgotten their past, becoming adversaries in a "righteous versus evil" struggle. Mu Xuanling saved the heavily injured Xie Xuechen in the Dark Abyss and coerced him to travel together in gratitude for saving his life.
Throughout their journey, the two went from harboring schemes against each other to fighting side by side, gradually letting go of their guard and developing feelings for each other. However, amidst the conspiracy to seize the divine artifact, the "Chaos Pearl," they found themselves in a life-and-death trial. Mu Xuanling sacrificed herself to save the world, and Xie Xuechen defied fate to go back in time and rescue her. With the end of the eternal calamity, Xie Xuechen's soul finally returned to Zhao Ming, but Zhao Ming's original form had become a demon god. Mu Xuanling used love to awaken the demon god, dispelling the catastrophe, and bringing peace to the world.
Recap
In the Dark Abyss, Lava Execution Ground, Xie Xuechen was trapped. The Dark Abyss Lord, Sang Qi, led his people there to join forces against Xie Xuechen. Soon, the Dark Abyss’s Holy Maiden, Mu Xuanling, arrived. She remarked that this Melting Abyss had been the burial ground of the gods ten thousand years ago.
Every hour, the wrath of ancient gods would erupt, lashing at one’s soul and causing excruciating pain, making it one of the world’s two most terrifying places, along with the God-Slaying Platform of the Divine Realm. Mu Xuanling mentioned that no one had ever lasted three days here, yet Xie Xuechen had endured seven. She acknowledged his title as the Son of Heaven’s Will and the strongest sword cultivator. Lifting Xie Xuechen’s face, Mu Xuanling commented on his unforgettable appearance.
She asked if they had met before. Xie Xuechen shook off her hand, but Mu Xuanling immediately grabbed his face and kissed him. She teased that she had heard he had endured seven days without yielding and admired his unyielding spirit. Stroking his lips, she mockingly observed that while his bones were hard, his lips were surprisingly soft. Mu Xuanling lamented that it was a pity he had exhausted all his cultivation, leaving him unable to break Sang Qi’s formation.
As she spoke, she began touching him again, remarking that Xie Xuechen was willing to sacrifice his life for humanity and questioning why he bothered. Xie Xuechen sarcastically replied that it would be a shame for such a handsome man to die. A nearby man chimed in, saying that if Xie Xuechen agreed to join them, they would clean him up and present him to her.
Meanwhile, Sang Qi was in seclusion when the Elder of the Decayed Predecessors came to visit him. Sang Qi questioned why the elder insisted on disturbing him during his retreat. The elder praised Sang Qi for being formidable enough to send a clone despite being injured. Sang Qi asked if the elder was there to spy on him. The elder reminded Sang Qi of his promise to assist them.
Sang Qi assured him he hadn’t forgotten and acknowledged their desire for the Chaos Pearl, stating that he was also searching for it. Sang Qi warned them not to interfere, promising to inform them of any results. With that, he took something from the elder before dismissing him. After the elder left, Mu Xuanling arrived, questioning Sang Qi about his collaboration with the human race.
She reminded him of the irreconcilable enmity between their races and accused him of keeping his plans from her. She asked if he thought she was inferior. Mu Xuanling revealed that she knew Sang Qi was searching for the Chaos Pearl and had imprisoned Xie Xuechen in the Melting Abyss to force him to reveal the whereabouts of the Immortal Alliance Token, as only the token could lead to the Chaos Pearl.
As they argued, someone informed them that Xie Xuechen had broken in. Mu Xuanling told Sang Qi to stay while she handled him. Outside, Xie Xuechen had already defeated all the guards at the gate. Mu Xuanling confronted him and the two clashed. However, Xie Xuechen was no match for Mu Xuanling. Soon, Zhan Ying from the Dark Abyss arrived to attack Xie Xuechen.
To stop him, Mu Xuanling placed Xie Xuechen’s sword against her own neck and secretly whispered that this was exactly what she wanted. Using the situation, Mu Xuanling took Xie Xuechen and escaped the Dark Abyss. Xie Xuechen managed to speak a few words before collapsing. Mu Xuanling carried him to a nearby home. When Xie Xuechen awoke, he saw Mu Xuanling. As they playfully wrestled on the bed, an elderly woman entered, bringing Xie Xuechen some food.
The two pretended to be a couple who had eloped and were on the run, hiding from their pursuers. Mu Xuanling insisted on staying by Xie Xuechen’s side, but he refused, reminding her that she was from the Dark Abyss and not a good person. She warned him not to forget that if she wished, she could hold all of humanity hostage for her benefit.
After staying for a few days, they prepared to leave but were pursued by Yu Ying from the Dark Abyss. Using a heart-demon illusion technique, Yu Ying trapped them. Mu Xuanling taunted Yu Ying, asking her to consider how Xie Xuechen had escaped the Melting Abyss. She pointed out that without assistance, Xie Xuechen could never have made it out. Mu Xuanling then revealed that she was the one who had helped him escape. Hearing this, Yu Ying hesitated.
Mu Xuanling told Yu Ying that it was their master, Lord Sang Qi, who had instructed her to let Xie Xuechen escape. By doing so, she could follow him and locate the Immortal Alliance Token. Yu Ying asked why, if this was the case, their master had still ordered them to pursue Xie Xuechen. Mu Xuanling explained that only through such actions could Xie Xuechen be convinced to trust her.
She instructed Yu Ying to first restrain Xie Xuechen, and at the critical moment, she would appear to save him. That way, Xie Xuechen would be grateful to her, and their relationship would grow closer. Mu Xuanling then asked Yu Ying if she could see Xie Xuechen's heart demon. Yu Ying released Xie Xuechen's heart demon, and Mu Xuanling saw a vision of him searching for a rabbit in a snowy field.
His father appeared and told him that the rabbit had already been killed and that he should stop looking for it. Xie Xuechen questioned why his father had killed the rabbit he loved. His father replied that Xie Xuechen bore a heavy responsibility and could not afford to have attachments. He asked Xie Xuechen what he would choose if, one day, he had to decide between the world and the thing he loved most.
Xie Xuechen asked why he must choose one or the other. His father told him that his responsibilities allowed no room for personal attachments. Yu Ying commented on how Xie Xuechen's illusion was different from others'. Mu Xuanling explained that it was because he had no desires. Yu Ying found it hard to believe, questioning how he could be without desire.
Mu Xuanling replied that he had been trained by his father from a young age and, with his unparalleled cultivation and fame, had nothing else to strive for. Mu Xuanling then asked Yu Ying if she could see Xie Xuechen’s memories from ten years ago. Yu Ying replied that her power could only reveal desires, not memories. Mu Xuanling remarked that Yu Ying was of no use to her, and with that, she killed Yu Ying.
However, Yu Ying’s shadow lingered, and Zhan Ying and others speculated whether Yu Ying had been killed by Mu Xuanling or Xie Xuechen. As Xie Xuechen prepared to leave, Mu Xuanling asked where he was going. Xie Xuechen told her not to follow him, saying that she was of the demon race while he was of the human race, and they were not meant to walk the same path.
Mu Xuanling, however, said that all paths lead to the same destination. She remarked that Xie Xuechen carried a scent, and they could track him using it. Mu Xuanling then revealed that she had a pair of Illusion Hairpins, which, when worn, would make others see them as ordinary people. She placed one of the hairpins on Xie Xuechen’s head and asked him to place the other on her. Ignoring her, Xie Xuechen left, but Mu Xuanling quickly followed him.
They arrived at an inn where the innkeeper informed them there was only one room left. Mu Xuanling insisted they take it. As they walked past, members of the Mirror Blossom Palace seated nearby noticed Xie Xuechen’s reluctance and speculated that Mu Xuanling looked like a wealthy young lady. They guessed Xie Xuechen must have some extraordinary qualities to accompany her. Overhearing this, Mu Xuanling teased Xie Xuechen, saying he indeed had remarkable qualities.
Not long after they entered their room, they sensed a demonic aura. Looking out the window, they saw the young master of Mirror Blossom Palace, Gao Qiumin, and a disciple, Cui Wanwan, arriving. The two took out a Treasure-Sniffing Mouse named A Bao. Mu Xuanling recognized it as a spirit race creature like herself and noticed that A Bao was on the verge of death from fear. Mu Xuanling struck Gao Qiumin, allowing A Bao to escape.
Later that night, A Bao quietly approached Mu Xuanling and transformed into a little girl, revealing that she had just learned how to take human form. A Bao told them that she came from Bixiao Palace and that her father was Fu Cangli. Xie Xuechen asked why she hadn’t registered at the Spirit Temple. Mu Xuanling explained that if they registered now, they would be captured and beaten.
She expressed sympathy for A Bao, but their actions had already drawn Gao Qiumin’s suspicion. Gao Qiumin and Cui Wanwan pursued Mu Xuanling and Xie Xuechen. During the battle, Mu Xuanling recognized Gao Qiumin as someone who had previously bullied her and attempted to kill her. However, Xie Xuechen stopped her, leading to an argument between the two. In the end, Xie Xuechen trapped Mu Xuanling in his Linglong Shackles.
Feng Yao asked the young master in the carriage behind her, Nan Xuyue, why he had come here. Nan Xuyue replied that he had calculated long ago that he would meet an old acquaintance here today. He wondered if she would still recognize him. Meanwhile, under the blazing sun, Mu Xuanling sat trapped in the Linglong Shackles, remarking that Xie Xuechen had left her here to "roast meat. " As she mused, she heard A Bao’s voice.
A Bao announced that she had found the smartest person in the world to save her. Mu Xuanling muttered quietly that in A Bao’s mind, everyone in the world was smart. However, she overheard the person recognizing the Linglong Shackles and stating that whoever set the formation clearly didn’t want to kill her. Mu Xuanling thought that someone who could identify the Linglong Shackles must indeed be remarkable.
Nan Xuyue continued, explaining that setting up such a formation required blood and immense spiritual power. Yet, the person had not killed her, likely due to lacking the strength to face their enemy directly. Hearing this, Mu Xuanling felt the person was genuinely capable. She admitted that she had had a misunderstanding with a friend and asked if he could help her break the Linglong Shackles so she could resolve the misunderstanding.
Nan Xuyue, realizing she was referring to Xie Xuechen, told her the method to unlock the Linglong Shackles. Following his instructions, Mu Xuanling successfully broke free. Nan Xuyue then introduced himself as the master of Yunxiu Manor, revealing that her "friend" was Xie Xuechen. Mu Xuanling, puzzled, asked how he knew. Nan Xuyue explained that the Linglong Shackles were something he and Xie Xuechen had created together, which was why he could unlock them.
Mu Xuanling asked if he was also Xie Xuechen’s friend. Nan Xuyue nodded. Mu Xuanling remarked that it was surprising someone like Xie Xuechen could have friends. Nan Xuyue retorted, saying wasn’t she also Xie Xuechen’s friend? Embarrassed, Mu Xuanling lowered her head. Nan Xuyue invited her to come to Yunxiu Manor with him, saying Xie Xuechen would also be there.
A Bao wanted to tag along, but Mu Xuanling, stating she had things to do, refused to let A Bao follow her. A Bao then asked Nan Xuyue if she could visit his manor as a guest. Nan Xuyue glanced at Mu Xuanling, who told him that A Bao’s question was directed at him, and he should decide. Nan Xuyue agreed, allowing A Bao to accompany them to Yunxiu Manor. Shortly after they arrived, Xie Xuechen appeared.
Upon seeing Mu Xuanling, he immediately asked Nan Xuyue why he had brought her along. Mu Xuanling called Xie Xuechen a scoundrel before storming off, leaving the two men alone. Xie Xuechen confided in Nan Xuyue that he suspected there was a traitor within the Immortal Alliance. Nan Xuyue, knowing Xie Xuechen’s character, deduced that his capture by the Dark Abyss was deliberate.
Xie Xuechen confirmed this, explaining that he had allowed himself to be captured to investigate the Dark Abyss. There, he discovered that Sang Qi was colluding with the Immortal Alliance to target the Chaos Pearl. Xie Xuechen emphasized that the key now was to identify the traitor, but his spiritual power had not yet recovered. Nan Xuyue offered to help restore his power, which he did successfully.
Xie Xuechen thanked him, but Nan Xuyue merely told him to take better care of himself. Xie Xuechen remarked that this was only the beginning and that someone was orchestrating everything from behind the scenes. Ten years ago, Xie Xuechen had saved Mu Xuanling, but during the same period, Nan Xuyue, injured and recuperating at home, was befriended by Mu Xuanling. Mu Xuanling later asked A Bao if it was possible for someone to come back to life after death.
A Bao explained that her mother had told her only the Dark Clan could revive the dead. For the Human and Divine Clans, death was final—though, under special circumstances, revival might be possible. A Bao added that her mother had also taught her to back down when necessary since she only had one life. Just then, Nan Xuyue’s subordinate, Feng Yao, came to report trouble: Gao Qiumin had arrived, seeking a place to stay.
Nan Xuyue went to prepare a room for her, while Xie Xuechen exchanged a few words with her, quickly realizing that she was possessed by Zhan Ying. Sensing the demonic aura, Mu Xuanling also emerged.
Xie Xuechen was about to attack Zhan Ying when Mu Xuanling stopped him, saying she should handle it instead. Xie Xuechen insisted that he would take care of it, but Mu Xuanling pointed out that his spiritual power had not fully recovered and insisted on doing it herself. Zhan Ying grew impatient, asking whether they were going to fight him or not.
While Xie Xuechen and Mu Xuanling argued over who would face Zhan Ying, Nan Xuyue appeared and sealed Zhan Ying into his fan. Before being sealed, Zhan Ying realized that they had already set up a formation and asked what mistake he had made. However, neither Xie Xuechen nor the others responded, and Zhan Ying’s projection was captured. Back in the Dark Abyss, Yu Ying asked Zhan Ying if he had died. Zhan Ying replied that he was still alive.
Yu Ying remarked that if Zhan Ying was alive, then Xie Xuechen and Mu Xuanling must have died. Zhan Ying clarified that neither of them had died. Chi Ying urged Zhan Ying to quickly retrieve his projection. Zhan Ying activated his spiritual power to recover it but failed. Meanwhile, Mu Xuanling asked Xie Xuechen how he had realized that Gao Qiumin was possessed by Zhan Ying. Xie Xuechen didn’t answer and walked away.
Nan Xuyue told her that Xie Xuechen would explain when he was ready and then asked why she was following him. Mu Xuanling confessed that she liked Xie Xuechen and asked Nan Xuyue if there was truly an engagement between Xie Xuechen and Gao Qiumin. Nan Xuyue replied that there didn’t seem to be one, but rumors within the Immortal Alliance had led people to believe there was.
Mu Xuanling said that Xie Xuechen carried the weight of the world on his shoulders, so she was content to stay by his side and protect him. Nan Xuyue looked at her, thinking to himself that this must be what it meant to give selflessly without expecting anything in return. Later, they returned to their rooms, and Xie Xuechen carried Gao Qiumin away. Mu Xuanling, seeing this, remarked that he actually carried her.
She jokingly asked Nan Xuyue if it was still possible to release Zhan Ying now. Her comment made Nan Xuyue laugh. Gao Qiumin then woke up, and Xie Xuechen explained that she had been possessed by someone from the Dark Clan. Gao Qiumin became furious, saying she should have killed all of them back then. Gao Qiumin asked about her junior sister, Cui Wanwan. Xie Xuechen reassured her that Cui Wanwan had already been sent back to Jinghua Palace.
Suddenly, fireworks appeared in the sky. Nan Xuyue recognized it as Feng Yao’s signal. He explained that the purple-red fireworks indicated either an enemy attack or a traitor within the Immortal Alliance. After some discussion, the group decided to head to Jinghua Palace to investigate. Gao Qiumin, seeing Mu Xuanling, commented that she didn’t recognize her. Nan Xuyue, noticing Xie Xuechen’s silence, introduced Mu Xuanling as his cousin.
Mu Xuanling insisted on accompanying them to Jinghua Palace, but Xie Xuechen refused. Mu Xuanling retorted that even without his permission, she could still go. Nan Xuyue told her to pack her things and join them later. Xie Xuechen warned Mu Xuanling that the palace master of Jinghua Palace, Su Ningzhen, deeply resented the Spirit Clan. He advised her to be careful, stating that he wouldn’t help her if anything happened.
When they arrived at Jinghua Palace, Gao Qiumin met Su Ningzhen and told her that she had returned with Xie Xuechen and the others. Su Ningzhen asked why she didn’t see them, and Gao Qiumin explained that they had heard about the missing Jade Token and were pursuing another lead. Su Ningzhen grew agitated upon hearing that Xie Xuechen had been captured by Sang Qi during his disappearance.
She grabbed Gao Qiumin’s hand, urging her to remember that Sang Qi was her enemy and that she must kill him to avenge her. Su Ningzhen squeezed Gao Qiumin’s hand so hard that it left a wound. Realizing this, Su Ningzhen quickly let go and instructed Jinghua Palace Elder Xi to take Gao Qiumin to treat her injury.
Meanwhile, Mu Xuanling, upset that Xie Xuechen didn’t trust her, asked Nan Xuyue if there was something she could use to prove her loyalty. Nan Xuyue produced a pair of bracelets, explaining that wearing them would allow Xie Xuechen to control her. Without hesitation, Mu Xuanling put them on. She and Xie Xuechen deduced that the person who stole the Jade Token might be hiding in a hot spring inn.
Sure enough, they found a Snake Spirit named Yan Si there. A fierce fight broke out between the three. Yan Si was about to injure Mu Xuanling, but Xie Xuechen intervened just in time to pull her away.
Xie Xuechen and Mu Xuanling fought with Yan Si, but Xie Xuechen deliberately let Yan Si escape. Mu Xuanling asked him why he did that, and Xie Xuechen explained that it was unlikely Yan Si could have stolen the Jade Token so easily with the tight security at Jinghua Palace. He speculated that Yan Si must have an accomplice and added that they would see if Nan Xuyue could catch up with her.
Sure enough, Yan Si arrived in an alley, where she handed the Jade Token to a man in black. She urged him to deliver the token to the Lord of the Pavilion and complete their grand mission. Feng Yao caught up with Yan Si and told the man in black to leave first. As Feng Yao approached step by step, Yan Si took her own life.
Feng Yao retrieved Yan Si’s inner core and admitted that it was her mistake for letting the man in black escape. Nan Xuyue reassured her, saying at least they had now confirmed Yan Si had an accomplice. Feng Yao revealed that she overheard their conversation, where Yan Si had instructed the man to ensure the Jade Token was delivered to the Lord of the Pavilion.
Hearing this, Xie Xuechen deduced that this Lord must have some connection with the Decaying Immortal Pavilion. Mu Xuanling remarked that the name alone suggested animosity toward the Immortal Alliance. Feng Yao thought for a moment and mentioned noticing something peculiar earlier. She shared her observations with Nan Xuyue and the others. Following this, Xie Xuechen instructed Gao Qiumin to investigate everyone at Jinghua Palace.
Elder Zai Xi informed Su Ningzhen about the situation, explaining that Gao Qiumin suspected there was a traitor within the palace and was conducting a person-by-person investigation. Zai Xi asked Su Ningzhen if she should intervene, but Su Ningzhen declined, saying this was a good opportunity to reorganize the palace. Su Ningzhen even ordered Zai Xi to tell Gao Qiumin to conduct thorough body searches during the investigation.
As Zai Xi was about to leave, Su Ningzhen stopped her and questioned her recent activities. Zai Xi explained herself, and Su Ningzhen let her go after hearing her account. Zai Xi glanced back at Su Ningzhen from the doorway, feeling something was amiss. Meanwhile, Gao Qiumin reported back to Xie Xuechen, stating that she had thoroughly investigated everyone at Jinghua Palace and was confident there was no problem.
Gao Qiumin questioned whether they had made a mistake, insisting there was no traitor in the palace. Xie Xuechen asked if she was certain she had investigated everyone. Gao Qiumin affirmed, but when Xie Xuechen asked if she had investigated Cui Wanwan, she immediately defended Cui Wanwan, saying she wouldn’t do such a thing. Nan Xuyue then mentioned that Feng Yao had seen hook-shaped leaves in Jinghua Palace that day.
Feng Yao quickly drew the leaves and showed Gao Qiumin, explaining that such leaves did not exist within the palace. She added that the leaves she saw outside were green, indicating they were fresh and less than two hours old. Leaves would turn brown after two hours. Xie Xuechen pointed out that on the day in question, Gao Qiumin was at Yunxiu Manor, while Cui Wanwan used the opportunity to enter Jinghua Palace and steal the Jade Token.
Gao Qiumin refused to believe it was Cui Wanwan. Xie Xuechen asked why she was so certain. Gao Qiumin admitted she just didn’t want to believe it. Mu Xuanling, frustrated, retorted that if she didn’t want to believe it, then what was the point of their efforts over the past few days—was it all a game to her? Gao Qiumin left, and Nan Xuyue remarked that Mu Xuanling seemed hostile toward Gao Qiumin.
Mu Xuanling admitted she didn’t like her and had always disliked her. Back at Jinghua Palace, Gao Qiumin searched Cui Wanwan’s room but found nothing. She encountered Nan Xuyue and Xie Xuechen there and reported that her search yielded no evidence. Nan Xuyue revealed that they had cast a spell on Yan Si’s inner core and would be able to see all her memories in two hours. Overhearing this, Cui Wanwan panicked, fearing her secret would be exposed.
She went to the inn to retrieve the inner core, unaware that it was a trap set by Xie Xuechen. Cui Wanwan was discovered and, during her escape, was killed by Su Ningzhen. Afterward, Su Ningzhen invited Xie Xuechen and the others to dine at Jinghua Palace. During the meal, a Soul-Seizing Gu from the Dark Abyss suddenly appeared.
While Mu Xuanling and Xie Xuechen were eating, a Soul-Seizing Gu suddenly appeared, even infecting Su Ningzhen. Nan Xuyue used his spell to temporarily seal the door. Xie Xuechen asked how long the spell would hold, and Nan Xuyue replied it wouldn’t last much longer. Xie Xuechen suggested they leave while he stayed behind, but Feng Yao pointed out that none of them could leave. Everyone turned to see the disciples of Jinghua Palace rushing in, all infected by the Gu.
Mu Xuanling prepared to kill them, but Xie Xuechen stopped her, saying they were still people and shouldn’t be killed. Mu Xuanling cut her hand to expel the Gu from the disciples’ bodies. Mu Xuanling explained that only demonic arts could counteract the Gu, using poison to combat poison. Xie Xuechen worried about her injury and urged her to stop, but Mu Xuanling asked if he was concerned about her. Xie Xuechen said nothing.
Finally, Mu Xuanling used her demonic arts to expel the Gu from everyone, then collapsed into Xie Xuechen’s arms. Nan Xuyue also reached out to catch her, but she fell into Xie Xuechen's embrace instead. Nan Xuyue checked Mu Xuanling’s pulse and noted that her old injuries had worsened. He added that Mu Xuanling’s spiritual core was damaged. Xie Xuechen mentioned that she had told him about it before.
Xie Xuechen urged Nan Xuyue to find a way to save her, and Nan Xuyue went to the study to look for a solution. Xie Xuechen recalled Mu Xuanling telling him she could only cultivate demonic arts because of her damaged spiritual core. He noticed a notebook she had dropped on the ground and hesitated to pick it up, remembering how she had once asked if he wanted to read it.
Despite his hesitation, he eventually opened the notebook and thought about the scene of Mu Xuanling writing in it. Xie Xuechen remembered that Mu Xuanling had asked him to give her the spirit pill from Yu Ying to enhance her strength. He took out the pill and fed it to her. Shortly after, Mu Xuanling opened her eyes and saw Xie Xuechen glowing with a purple light. Mu Xuanling immediately hugged Xie Xuechen.
When he asked how she was, she said her whole body hurt. As she spoke, she began kissing Xie Xuechen, saying her clothes felt like they were cutting into her. She reached to remove them, but Xie Xuechen stopped her. She then kissed him on the lips and even bit him, leaving Xie Xuechen no choice but to knock her unconscious. He placed her on the bed to let her rest.
When Xie Xuechen stepped outside to get some air, Gao Qiumin arrived. She said she had come to check on him. Xie Xuechen asked her not to reveal anything about Mu Xuanling. Gao Qiumin teased him, asking why he was suddenly sympathetic to the Spirit Clan. Xie Xuechen replied that she wasn’t much different. Gao Qiumin told him to manage his people, assuring him she wouldn’t spread any rumors. She then went to see Su Ningzhen, who had mostly recovered.
Su Ningzhen asked how the five of them had managed to fend off so many people infected with Gu. Gao Qiumin explained that Xie Xuechen had discovered their weakness, leading to their success. Xie Xuechen and his group bid farewell to Su Ningzhen and prepared to return to Yunxiu Manor. Gao Qiumin came to see them off, and she and Mu Xuanling had another argument.
Xie Xuechen asked Mu Xuanling what grudge she had against Gao Qiumin, but Mu Xuanling only replied that he wouldn’t remember even if she told him, then stormed off. When the group returned to Yunxiu Manor, A Bao happily hugged Mu Xuanling upon seeing her. One of Nan Xuyue’s subordinates informed them that preparations were underway to send Xie Xuechen back to Yongxue City.
Mu Xuanling caught up with Xie Xuechen and asked if she could accompany him to Yongxue City. Xie Xuechen asked if she truly intended to abandon the darkness for the light. Mu Xuanling admitted that he might think her words were a mix of truth and lies, but she had no choice in the Dark Abyss—if she didn’t act that way, she would die. However, she genuinely wished to stand in the sunlight.
Xie Xuechen agreed to let her accompany him to Yongxue City. Not far away, Feng Yao asked Nan Xuyue if he planned to let this old acquaintance leave. Nan Xuyue replied that she couldn’t be stopped, so he would go with her.
Nan Xuyue activated the formation, saying it was ready and they could all step inside. It would only take ten breaths of time to reach Yongxue City. Mu Xuanling reminded A Bao not to forget the promise she had made. A Bao assured her that she wouldn’t cause any trouble in Yongxue City. She added that if she sensed the presence of the Dark Clan, she would immediately inform Mu Xuanling.
After saying this, A Bao transformed into a sniffing treasure mouse and burrowed into the pouch Mu Xuanling carried. As they looked at Nan Xuyue’s formation, they noticed a death curse had been cast on it. Nan Xuyue urgently called Feng Yao to help him. In the end, the formation was forced to shut down. Nan Xuyue speculated that someone had tampered with the materials used to activate the formation.
A Bao blamed herself for failing to detect the killing formation, but Nan Xuyue explained that the aura of a killing formation was inherently hard to detect, especially when concealed. Xie Xuechen also reassured her, and Mu Xuanling added that since her cultivation level was low, no one could blame her. Xie Xuechen suspected this was all orchestrated by the Xiu Xian Pavilion. He proposed that everything, starting from the incident at Jinghua Palace, was a two-pronged scheme.
Nan Xuyue elaborated that if Xie Xuechen was right, the chaos at Jinghua Palace served two purposes: stealing the jade token and creating a distraction, allowing them to sabotage the formation materials. Xie Xuechen pointed out that Nan Xuyue, being the most knowledgeable about the formation, would have detected any anomalies if he had been present. He explained that the large commotion was intentionally caused to lure Nan Xuyue away.
Mu Xuanling agreed, adding that Nan Xuyue’s work on the formation wasn’t a secret. Moreover, Xie Xuechen’s decision to stop at Yunxiu Manor instead of heading directly to Yongxue City upon leaving the Dark Abyss had likely been anticipated. Knowing that Xie Xuechen’s powers hadn’t fully recovered, they would have guessed he’d rely on the formation to return. Now, they weren’t sure what to do next. Nan Xuyue thought for a moment and said there was still another way.
He pulled out a small boat, saying it could take them to Yongxue City. Mu Xuanling doubted the tiny vessel could carry them, but Nan Xuyue poured water over it. The miniature boat immediately transformed into a flying ship. They all boarded, preparing to leave. Nan Xuyue mentioned that while the formation would have taken only ten breaths to reach their destination, the ship would take a bit longer. Mu Xuanling sat by the edge of the ship, admiring the view.
Nan Xuyue joined her, and as they were chatting, Xie Xuechen came out as well. Mu Xuanling asked if he was also there to enjoy the scenery. Xie Xuechen replied that he was just getting some fresh air. Mu Xuanling teased him, saying he lacked a sense of romance and should learn from Nan Xuyue. Xie Xuechen warned her that such comments could get her expelled from her sect in Yongxue City.
Mu Xuanling replied that she understood and would restrain herself. Two days later, they arrived above Yongxue City. Nan Xuyue explained to Mu Xuanling that unlike Jinghua Palace, where it was spring all year round, Yongxue City was blanketed in snow and ice year-round—a pure, flawless expanse where no imperfection was tolerated. They soon arrived at the city gates, where the disciples greeted Xie Xuechen, the Young City Lord, with great respect.
Xie Xuechen met Elder Cang, who greeted both him and Nan Xuyue before turning his attention to Mu Xuanling. Xie Xuechen introduced her, stating that she would now be a disciple of Yongxue City. He instructed her to follow Elder Cang for training. Xie Xuechen asked where the Alliance Leader was, saying he needed to meet him. Elder Yu explained that the Alliance Leader was still in seclusion.
Xie Xuechen remarked that the Alliance Leader had been in seclusion since before he left and still hadn’t come out. When Xie Xuechen went to find the Alliance Leader, he discovered that the man—his father—had passed away. Overcome with grief and guilt, he blamed himself. Nan Xuyue noted that the Jinghua Palace incident had achieved not just two but three objectives, and Xie Xuechen busied himself with work to numb his sorrow.
Mu Xuanling expressed concern to Nan Xuyue, saying that Xie Xuechen would burn out if he continued this way. Nan Xuyue mentioned that Xie Xuechen hadn’t always been like this, but after his cultivation breakthrough, he had become calm, restrained, and cold. Determined to comfort him, Mu Xuanling sought out Xie Xuechen. Although he told her to leave, she refused. She reminded him that he didn’t need to suppress his emotions and could still feel.
After her persistent reassurance, Xie Xuechen broke down in tears and embraced her. Nan Xuyue saw this and quietly walked away.
After comforting Xie Xuechen, Mu Xuanling left and noticed Nan Xuyue standing not far away. She asked him why he didn’t try to console Xie Xuechen. Nan Xuyue replied that when his father had passed away, Xie Xuechen had stood far away as well. He explained that they both understood each other without words. Mu Xuanling realized she had forgotten that Nan Xuyue had also lost his father.
She asked if Nan Xuyue had ever thought about avenging his father, who had been killed by the Spirit Clan. Nan Xuyue replied that those who deserved to die were already dead, and the revenge he needed to take had already been taken. He then asked if Mu Xuanling had known Xie Xuechen before. Mu Xuanling remained silent, staring at him. Nan Xuyue said her reaction had already given him the answer.
Nan Xuyue pointed out that the way Mu Xuanling looked at Xie Xuechen wasn’t just out of affection. “The person involved often can’t see clearly, but the bystander always can,” he said. He asked her why she didn’t tell Xie Xuechen. Mu Xuanling admitted that she had wanted to tell him before, but later decided against it. She felt that Xie Xuechen already carried enough pain, and the circumstances under which they had met weren’t exactly happy memories.
Mu Xuanling thought about the time Xie Xuechen had sacrificed himself to save her. She said it was enough for her to remember his kindness. Nan Xuyue then asked if she still remembered him. From the look on her face, he realized she had forgotten. He explained that when they first met, her face bore golden patterns, and the bells she wore on her feet were unforgettable.
Nan Xuyue said that while everyone else pitied him, Mu Xuanling had seen through him. She had treated him like a normal person rather than showing him pity. Hearing this, Mu Xuanling realized he was the young master she had met before. Nan Xuyue asked if her promise to give him “a little bit of affection” still held true. Mu Xuanling froze, and Nan Xuyue smiled, saying he was just joking.
Mu Xuanling teased him, saying he was now surrounded by so many admirers that he didn’t need her little bit of affection anymore. Nan Xuyue laughed and offered to take her back. Meanwhile, after arranging his father’s funeral, Xie Xuechen approached Elder Yu, reminding him of an unfinished game of chess between them.
Elder Yu asked why, after all this time, Xie Xuechen still wanted to finish the game. He wondered if there was a wager involved. Xie Xuechen revealed that if he won, Elder Yu would have to tell him who the master of the Xiu Xian Pavilion was. Shocked, Elder Yu realized Xie Xuechen already knew.
Elder Yu’s men prepared to attack, but Xie Xuechen quickly subdued them. Elder Yu was stunned to see that Xie Xuechen’s powers had returned. Xie Xuechen admitted that he had already recovered before returning. He questioned Elder Yu about why he had allied with the Xiu Xian Pavilion’s master. Elder Yu replied that the master’s immense power left him no choice but to obey.
When Xie Xuechen asked if it was only because of fear, Elder Yu replied bitterly, “Only? For you, death might mean nothing. But for us, only by staying alive can we accomplish anything else.” Xie Xuechen pressed him for the whereabouts of the Xiu Xian Pavilion’s master, but Elder Yu claimed that the master’s location was a secret, with communication carried out through letters.
When Xie Xuechen demanded to know who had killed his father, Elder Yu confessed that he had only taken away the guards at his father’s door and knew nothing more. In the end, Xie Xuechen killed Elder Yu.
Mu Xuanling expressed surprise, saying she didn’t expect him to kill humans. Xie Xuechen explained that he acted based on what was right and wrong. When Mu Xuanling asked how he judged the Spirit Clan, Xie Xuechen said it was the same. He revealed that he had brought her to Yongxue City to change how others viewed the Spirit Clan.
To her dismay, Mu Xuanling realized that life in Yongxue City also involved daily lessons. After class, Elder Cang informed her that it was her turn to clean. While cleaning in Xie Xuechen’s courtyard, she noticed a Xuanling tree. Surprised, she remarked that this tree only grew in the Dark Abyss. Xie Xuechen explained that it had been there for a long time.
As he observed Mu Xuanling, Xie Xuechen thought to himself that she should find her place in this city. He then took her to select a sword. Mu Xuanling chose one and decided to name it “First Sword.”
Meanwhile, Sang Qi emerged from seclusion and ordered Yu Ying and Zhan Ying to report to the Xiu Xian Pavilion’s master. He emphasized that their priority was to confirm whether Xie Xuechen’s powers had truly been restored. He added that there were still other matters he needed to attend to next.
Mu Xuanling sat quietly to the side. Nan Xuyue approached her, asking why she claimed to be unwell when speaking to Elder Cang, yet was still here. Mu Xuanling explained that she didn’t want to see the people from the Immortal Alliance. She then asked Nan Xuyue why he wasn’t joining them either. Nan Xuyue replied that since he wasn’t a part of the Immortal Alliance, he didn’t want to get involved in the commotion.
Mu Xuanling asked if they might discover the demonic energy within her. Nan Xuyue reassured her that the spirit ink sigil on her body would typically conceal it. When Mu Xuanling asked about unusual circumstances, Nan Xuyue smirked and said it would depend on how strong her fate was. Mu Xuanling muttered that seeing the people from Xuantian Sect was even less desirable than the Immortal Alliance and cast a glance at Su Ningzhen, standing not far away.
Mu Xuanling sighed, “It seems enemies are always bound to cross paths. ” Nan Xuyue remarked that back at Mingyue Manor, she had conflicts with high-ranking cultivators. This reminded Mu Xuanling of when Sang Qi attacked the Gao family. Gao Qiuyun’s father had forced her and Gao Qiuyun to exchange clothes, even saying it was Mu Xuanling’s honor to die in Gao Qiuyun’s place.
As the two watched the Immortal Alliance arrive at Yongxue City, Nan Xuyue pointed out that the Bixiao Palace had also arrived. He told Mu Xuanling that Bixiao Palace was the wealthiest sect. He introduced her to Fu Lansheng, the young palace master of Bixiao Palace. As he finished, Fu Lansheng noticed Nan Xuyue and told his mother, Duan Xiaorong, that he wanted to join them. After glancing at the group, Duan Xiaorong permitted him to go.
Fu Lansheng approached Nan Xuyue but was intrigued by Mu Xuanling standing beside him. He asked who she was, and Nan Xuyue introduced her. Fu Lansheng, meeting Mu Xuanling for the first time, wasn’t sure what gift would suit her. He took out several magical artifacts and offered them to her, saying they were newly acquired and she could take her pick.
Mu Xuanling hesitated, not wanting to accept, but Nan Xuyue encouraged her, saying Fu Lansheng’s family had plenty of such items. At that moment, A Bao called out, “Daddy! ” Fu Lansheng, startled, asked who had spoken. Mu Xuanling explained it was her spirit beast. Fu Lansheng urged her to let the spirit beast out, and after glancing at Nan Xuyue for approval, Mu Xuanling summoned A Bao. A Bao emerged, immediately calling Fu Lansheng “Daddy.
” Fu Lansheng was startled again, and A Bao declared that her father was the wealthiest cultivator. Fu Lansheng laughed and replied that he wasn’t the wealthiest—his father was. Curious, he asked for the name of A Bao’s father. A Bao proudly said, “Fu Cangli. ”Fu Lansheng was surprised and commented that the name sounded like someone from Bixiao Palace. He promised to keep an eye out for A Bao’s father and then bid farewell to them.
Meanwhile, the Immortal Alliance members convened in the main hall to discuss matters. Xie Xuechen informed them that his father had passed away. The couple from Bixiao Palace immediately concluded it must have been the work of Sang Qi and the people of Xiu Xian Pavilion. They vowed to avenge the late alliance master. However, Xie Xuechen shifted their focus to the Chaos Pearl, stating that the true goal of their enemies was undoubtedly the pearl.
Xie Xuechen proposed electing a new alliance leader to safeguard the Chaos Pearl. The Immortal Alliance unanimously recommended Xie Xuechen for the role, believing he was the most capable. Xie Xuechen declined, stating that his powers had yet to recover fully. Su Ningzhen then expressed her desire to become the alliance leader. Her suggestion was met with immediate opposition, leading to a physical altercation. Fortunately, the leader of Xuantian Sect intervened and stopped the fighting.
Xie Xuechen suggested postponing the discussion and invited the Immortal Alliance members to stay in the city for the time being. Su Ningzhen told Gao Qiuyun to observe and learn, as once she became the alliance leader, she would make Gao Qiuyun her successor. Meanwhile, Sang Qi ordered Chi Ying to warn Mu Xuanling not to forget her responsibilities. Chi Ying arrived at Yongxue City by possessing someone.
A Bao detected the aura of the Dark Clan and alerted Mu Xuanling and Nan Xuyue. Mu Xuanling told Nan Xuyue to stay behind while she went to investigate. Mu Xuanling confronted the possessed person and began fighting Chi Ying. Gao Qiuyun, witnessing the scene, mistakenly believed Mu Xuanling was attacking a human and struck her to the ground. The Xuantian Sect leader also recited a spell that severely injured Mu Xuanling. Lying injured, Mu Xuanling thought back to the time when she had defeated everyone and approached Sang Qi’s side.
Mu Xuanling lay gravely injured on the ground when Xie Xuechen rushed over. She told him her body hurt terribly, and Xie Xuechen replied that he knew. He picked her up and left immediately. Gao Qiuyun watched their departing figures and muttered, “It’s not like I did it on purpose. ” Just as she finished speaking, someone called her name from behind. Startled, she turned around to see Fu Lansheng.
Fu Lansheng thought to himself that Gao Qiuyun and Xie Xuechen had been engaged, but now it seemed Xie Xuechen and Mu Xuanling were entangled with each other. Worried that Gao Qiuyun might feel upset, he tried to comfort her. However, Gao Qiuyun’s real concern was that Fu Lansheng might have seen her harming Mu Xuanling. Their conversation ended with mutual misunderstandings. Gao Qiuyun quickly took both her sword and Mu Xuanling’s sword and left.
Shortly after, people from Xuantian Sect arrived, finding the area deserted. Their leader remarked that if Mu Xuanling had been truly strong, she could have fought back. Since she had fled, it was likely someone had rescued her. Xie Xuechen looked at Mu Xuanling lying on the bed, still groaning in pain, and felt deeply distressed. He prepared to use his spiritual energy to heal her wounds, but Mu Xuanling’s body couldn’t absorb it.
Xie Xuechen recalled how Mu Xuanling had once told him that her spiritual core was damaged, making it impossible for her to cultivate spiritual energy. He was shocked to find that not only could she not use spiritual energy, but she couldn’t absorb it either. Determined, Xie Xuechen took Mu Xuanling’s hand and transferred the curse from her body onto his own. Mu Xuanling’s injuries healed instantly.
Nan Xuyue, seeing this, remarked that Xie Xuechen had gone to great lengths for Mu Xuanling. Xie Xuechen explained that with the jade amulet protecting him, he didn’t feel much pain, but Mu Xuanling couldn’t endure it. Nan Xuyue said it was the first time he’d seen Xie Xuechen afraid of someone else being in pain and asked what Xie Xuechen truly felt about Mu Xuanling.
Xie Xuechen replied that since he was the one who brought her to Yongxue City, it was his responsibility to look after her. Then, Xie Xuechen told Nan Xuyue to stay and watch over Mu Xuanling, as it wasn’t appropriate for him to remain there. With that, he left. Watching him walk away, Nan Xuyue muttered, “Loving someone like him is exhausting. ” Meanwhile, Xie Xuechen repaired the curse on his body alone.
One of his disciples approached and told him it wasn’t worth it. Xie Xuechen asked how Mu Xuanling had been behaving recently. The disciple reported that she was on the verge of using up her ten warnings and would soon be expelled from Yongxue City. Xie Xuechen asked for the record book, erased all her recorded mistakes, and told the disciple, “I asked you to watch over her, not to document her faults.
”When Mu Xuanling woke up, she remembered that Xie Xuechen had been the one to bring her back. She was about to get out of bed when she heard someone coming and quickly lay down again. Nan Xuyue entered, carrying food. Mu Xuanling asked where Xie Xuechen was. Nan Xuyue explained that the Dark Clan had infiltrated the city, and Xie Xuechen was handling it.
Mu Xuanling scoffed at the curse from Xuantian Sect, saying it wasn’t as terrible as she’d imagined. Nan Xuyue told her she wasn’t in pain because someone had taken it on for her. He revealed that Xie Xuechen had transferred the curse onto himself. Angrily, Mu Xuanling asked who had told him to do that and said she would go find him. Nan Xuyue stopped her, saying it wouldn’t change anything.
Meanwhile, Xie Xuechen was discussing the Dark Clan’s infiltration with the leader of Xuantian Sect. They agreed that someone inside the city must have been aiding the Dark Clan. The leader assigned his junior, Xuan Xin, to assist Xie Xuechen in uncovering the traitor. Mu Xuanling found Xie Xuechen’s room cold and lifeless, so she decorated it with flowers and plants. Suddenly, she was pulled into an illusion by Sang Qi.
Sang Qi reminded her not to forget her mission—to kill Xie Xuechen and steal the Chaos Pearl. When Mu Xuanling woke up, she was in tears, having decided to sacrifice her life to save Xie Xuechen’s. Gao Qiuyun had been standing outside her door, hesitating to apologize. Just as she gathered her courage, Mu Xuanling appeared behind her. Gao Qiuyun gifted her a magical artifact that could create pleasant dreams and apologized.
That night, Mu Xuanling dreamed of sweet moments with Xie Xuechen. Meanwhile, Xie Xuechen and the Immortal Alliance were discussing the selection of the new alliance leader.
