For Luo Xiaoxiao’s birthday, she and Chen Xu went to the same restaurant she used to visit each year with Liu Yanze to celebrate. There, she unexpectedly encountered Liu Yanze, who was also waiting for a birthday cake. Liu Yanze, making an excuse about meeting a friend, tried to leave, but Luo Xiaoxiao saw through his lie, realizing he had ordered the cake for her. Chen Xu invited him to join them for the meal.

When Chen Xu asked, it became clear that Liu Yanze was still single. Luo Xiaoxiao then openly admitted she joined the show just for him, as she hadn’t come to terms with their sudden breakup. Since neither of them was currently dating, she suggested they reconcile. If he had no one else he loved, they could even consider marriage.

Liu Yanze replied that they weren’t compatible five years ago and still aren’t, adding that they should meet less in the future. Though saddened, Luo Xiaoxiao covered her feelings by joking that her acting skills had improved enough to fool him. When Qin Fei heard that Xing Zhizhi had returned to work at the hospital, she decided to go there for rehab in hopes of seeing him.

However, when Xing Zhizhi spotted her, he pretended not to notice and walked past her. He even had other doctors perform her acupuncture, leaving Qin Fei slightly disappointed and wondering if her words had been too harsh and if Xing Zhizhi was really distancing himself from her. Ren Siqi, seeing Qin Fei’s recent rise in popularity, gave Ka Fei two tickets to a concert by her favorite singer.

Ka Fei casually placed them on the table, where a coworker accidentally threw them away, mistaking them for trash. Panicking, Ka Fei called Yu Zhecheng, explaining the ticket mix-up. Although she wanted to try buying replacement tickets herself, she had to accompany Qin Fei to a commercial shoot. She asked Yu Zhecheng to help get tickets, but he had a surgery scheduled. Hearing Ka Fei’s dilemma, Xing Zhizhi immediately volunteered to help get the tickets.

Ka Fei later relayed this to Qin Fei, showing that Xing Zhizhi still cared, which made Qin Fei happy. Qin Fei invited Xing Zhizhi to the concert, but he replied that he might be too busy to attend. Qin Fei assumed he was just being difficult, expecting him to still show up. However, he ended up missing the concert due to a meeting.

Later, over drinks with Liu Yanze, Xing Zhizhi listened as Liu Yanze revealed the reason for their breakup five years prior. He had been assigned to a dangerous overseas mission, from which he might not return, prompting the breakup with Luo Xiaoxiao. Now, with her as a big star and him as a security guard, he felt that they had no future together.

Meanwhile, Qin Fei was angry at Xing Zhizhi for lining up to get the tickets only to bail on her at the last moment. She directly asked if he still liked her, but he reminded her that she had previously said they should remain friends and had told him not to waste his time on her. When he asked if she wanted him to stop letting go, Qin Fei stubbornly refused to answer.

One morning, Qin Fei sneaked into Xing Zhizhi’s place and made him breakfast, claiming it was all homemade. Xing Zhizhi, however, realized she’d just bought everything from nearby. He called her out, saying her little tricks might work on her ex-boyfriends but wouldn’t work on him. Qin Fei argued that even if she bought the food, it was still thoughtful. Xing Zhizhi told her she shouldn’t lie to him, exaggerating her feelings to make him believe in something more.

He said love wasn’t about winning or losing and that if she treated it as a game, he had every right not to play along. He told her not to come over again. Luo Xiaoxiao told Qin Fei she had signed on for a new drama and hoped Qin Fei would audition for the second female lead. Since the role required a slim figure, she suggested Qin Fei shed a bit of weight.

So, while continuing her efforts to pursue Xing Zhizhi—making him breakfast and picking him up and dropping him off at work—Qin Fei also started exercising to lose weight. Inspired, Luo Xiaoxiao decided to follow Qin Fei’s example by taking the initiative and visited Liu Yanze’s company, hoping to hire him as a private bodyguard. However, Liu Yanze declined.

When Xing Zhizhi hadn’t seen Qin Fei after work as usual, he asked Yu Zhecheng, who said that Ka Fei also hadn’t heard from her all day. Worried something might have happened, Xing Zhizhi rushed to her place. When Qin Fei opened the door, she was weak and nearly fainted in his arms. It turned out she had been fasting for three to four days to fit the part of the second female lead.

Xing Zhizhi made her chicken noodle soup and, seeing her dedication to the role of an intern doctor, offered his help. Using his free time, he began tutoring Qin Fei, helping her with the medical theory she would need for the role.
