Jin Shichuan was hospitalized, and Xu Lai changed her workspace to the hospital, with the approval of Captain Qin. Xu Lai was organizing the materials on TC Corporation for her report. Her strong sense of justice changed Jin Shichuan's old-fashioned impression of reporters. During Jin Shichuan's hospitalization, Ping An, the police dog, wasn't eating or drinking much, and everyone knew that it must be missing Jin Shichuan. Taking advantage of some free time, everyone decided to visit Jin Shichuan at the hospital. After the visiting hours were over, Xu Lai couldn't bear to leave Jin Shichuan, so she sneaked back into the hospital.

The nurse didn't notice her, and Xu Lai slept on the hospital bed embracing Jin Shichuan for the whole night. The next day, Liu Xu and Zhang Yang came to see Jin Shichuan, only to find two pairs of feet sticking out at the end of the bed. When the nurse came to change Jin Shichuan's dressing, Xu Lai hurriedly left, and after Liu Xu and Zhang Yang put down their things, they were about to leave too. However, Jin Shichuan warned them not to tell anyone in the team about what happened just now. Xu Lai finished writing the draft of her report and learned from Xiao Zhou that Jiang Xin also knew about the investigation of TC Corporation. Xu Lai speculated that TC Corporation must have known in advance about her investigation at the processing plant because of Jiang Xin. While talking to Huo Yanzong on the phone, Xu Lai rushed to the hospital to take care of Jin Shichuan. Huo Yanzong had just arrived at the TV station when he saw Xu Lai getting into a taxi. When Jin Shichuan learned that Xu Lai was coming, he used his crutches to go down and meet her, but he noticed something unusual with his leg and hid. Zang Qiu helped him upstairs, and Jin Shichuan lied to Xu Lai, saying he had just returned from an examination. It was late, and Jin Shichuan urged Xu Lai to go home and rest. After Xu Lai left, Zang Qiu told Jin Shichuan about the condition of his leg. His knee joint had suffered external force, resulting in a blunt injury to the popliteal artery and the formation of a vascular tumor, which required immediate surgery.

Zang Qiu promised Jin Shichuan that he would tell Xu Lai about it after the surgery is successful. Jiang Xin played the recording provided by Sun Lei during a meeting, revealing that Huo Yanzong knowingly supported TC Corporation's illegal production. Xu Lai tried to explain on behalf of Huo Yanzong, but she couldn't convince the others. Captain Qin decided that Jiang Xin would be primarily responsible for the upcoming report. After the meeting, Xu Lai confronted Jiang Xin and intentionally left the recording behind. Jiang Xin and other reporters from different media outlets gathered at the entrance of Yun Kai Group to interview Huo Yanzong. Jiang Xin deliberately mentioned Xu Lai, but Huo Yanzong remained unwavering in his stance regarding Xu Lai's issue and responded positively for a few sentences. Han Fang said that he was too impulsive earlier, as it would give ammunition to those who had ill intentions.

Xu Lai called Huo Yanzong, and he assured her that he would handle the recording matter properly. Later, Huo Yanzong met Sun Lei at a club and reached a deal with him. Xu Lai accidentally spilled hot water on Jin Shichuan's injured leg and hurriedly fetched burn ointment. Jin Shichuan realized that his leg had lost sensation. Zang Qiu honestly told him that the worst-case scenario could result in a disability. The reason Huo Yanzong canceled the withdrawal from TC Corporation was because he wanted to seek revenge on Sun Lei and stand up for Xu Lai. To protect Xu Lai, Huo Yanzong arranged a meeting with Yu Shishi to divert the attention of the media. When Yu Shishi learned about this, she was very angry.
