A Journey to Love Episode 38 Recap
> A Journey to Love Recap
Left Wise King surrendered on behalf of Northern Pangu, and the people were overjoyed at the victory in the battle. However, unexpectedly, Left Wise King presented a crown, and when the Dawu Emperor opened the crown box, both the Dawu Emperor and the King of Sha were injured by the hidden bomb inside. The King of Sha asked Yu Shisan to give his belongings to Chu Yue before passing away. Meanwhile, the Dawu Emperor also succumbed to his injuries. Upon learning of the Dawu Emperor's death, Zhang Song, using the pretext of treason by the Crown Prince, besieged and killed the Crown Prince. Zhang Song aimed to assist the pregnant Empress and, regardless of whether the child was a boy or a girl, was determined to kill the Crown Prince.
The Empress and Lord Ying intervened to stop Zhang Song. Seeing Zhang Song's determination, the Empress ordered her men to bring Zhang Song's wife and children who were kidnapped. Zhang Song, forced by the situation, had to relent. The Empress, Xiao Yan, accused the Crown Prince and Zhang Song of seizing power after the Dawu Emperor's death. She gathered the court officials and falsely declared that the Emperor had been assassinated by Northern Pangu assassins. Xiao Yan believed that the current priority was to resist the invasion of Northern Pangu. She inquired about the military plans of the Crown Prince and Zhang Song. The Crown Prince thought it was urgent to send reinforcements to Hexian since Northern Pangu might regroup and besiege Hexian again. However, Zhang Song believed that it was better for Dawu to defend and conserve strength for future plans. After hearing their military plans, Xiao Yan decided to nominate the Crown Prince as the new ruler. Xiao Yan told Zhang Song that the Emperor had died defending against Northern Pangu, and now, with the imminent threat, they couldn't afford to retreat. She urged the Crown Prince to swear to treat her and her child well in front of the ancestral temple and to continue trusting and utilizing old officials like Zhang Song. The Crown Prince swore with blood, declaring that after ascending the throne, he would immediately personally lead the troops and not return to Wudou until Northern Pangu was defeated.
Lord Ying and the Crown Prince went to the ancestral temple to pay respects to their ancestors. Taking advantage of the Crown Prince's inattention, Lord Ying used a plaque to injure the Crown Prince and, claiming to prevent Zhang Song from harming the Crown Prince, had him taken to Lord Ying's residence for recovery. Meanwhile, Xiao Yan experienced difficult childbirth due to Lord Ying's treacherous actions. Lord Ying, using the identity of the Royal Protector, forcibly entered the palace. Xiao Yan, giving birth to a princess, knew the child was not healthy. Alone with Lord Ying, she questioned if the miscarriage was related to him. Lord Ying admitted his ambitious lineage and superior abilities but claimed that he had been destined for the throne had it not been for Xiao Yan's lifelong disability caused by him saving her from drowning at the age of eight. Feeling resentment, Lord Ying acknowledged his connection to Emperor Wudou's death and nearly harming Xiao Yan and her child. He believed that only when Xiao Yan and the Crown Prince were dead could he ascend to the throne without suspicion as the wise king.
Ning Yuanzhou, along with the Crown Prince, Zhang Song, and others, had already entered the palace. They overheard Lord Ying's words. It turned out that Xiao Yan had not suffered a difficult childbirth, and Lord Ying only discovered he had been deceived. Ruyi killed Lord Ying, and although the Crown Prince initially intended to announce Lord Ying's sudden illness and death in the palace, Xiao Yan insisted on charging Lord Ying with treason to avenge the Dawu Emperor. Ning Yuanzhou presented the Dawu Emperor's testament, announcing that the Dawu Emperor had chosen the Crown Prince as his successor. Zhang Song confirmed the testament and publicly expressed allegiance to the new Emperor. The Crown Prince ascended the throne, ordering Lord Ying to be executed for treason and demoted to a commoner outside the royal family. He decided to personally lead the army to resist Northern Pangu and made it clear that, in case of unforeseen events, Xiao Yan would decide on the succession.
The new Emperor granted Ning Yuanzhou the title of Jingyuan Marquis for protecting the late Emperor. Ruyi became Lady of Ningguo. Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi declined the rewards, stating that they had come to thwart the conspiracy only to contribute to the peace of the Central Plains. Now, with the new Left Wise King launching a massive attack on the Central Plains, the Duke of Chu had died, and the Sand Central rebels, Da'an's Duke Li Tongguang suffered losses, Ren Ruyi implored the new Emperor to immediately send reinforcements to support Hexian.
The new Emperor handed the military token to Ning Yuanzhou, instructing him to mobilize reinforcements to support Anguo. Within five days, he would lead his army to Hexian for reinforcements. Zhang Song presented a ten-day miraculous elixir to Ning Yuanzhou, and from him, Zhang Song learned that the late Emperor's testament was genuine. However, there were two testaments, one passing the throne to the Crown Prince and the other to the unborn royal child. Zhang Song entrusted the choice to Ning Yuanzhou, believing in his decision. In front of Zhang Song, Ning Yuanzhou burned the other testament, affirming that he had made the final decision only after learning of Zhang Song's military plans upon returning to Wudou. Although Zhang Song pursued power throughout his life, he did not want to lose at the last moment. With the matter settled, he acknowledged his defeat with a sincere heart.
