Synopsis
Gu Yizhong, a young man from the prominent Gu family in Suzhou, returns to China after studying architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. After the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, he and his girlfriend, Xiao Ruotong, join the Chinese Communist Party's underground organization. However, after a failed rescue mission, all the contact points of the Suzhou underground organization are exposed. Gu Yizhong is falsely accused of being a traitor within the Party due to a deliberate framing by the Japanese puppet government. Unable to prove his innocence, he takes the initiative to infiltrate the enemy. After numerous challenges, he eventually becomes an undercover agent for the Party in the Suzhou special operations station.
Under immense pressure, Gu Yizhong engages in a battle of wits with Zhou Zhifei, the head of the Suzhou Wang Jingwei puppet government's special operations station, and Kondo Toshio, a Japanese military advisor. He seizes the opportunity to uncover and eliminate the true traitor within the Party, code-named "Hei Ba" (Black Eight). Gu Yizhong continuously gathers intelligence for the Party in secret, repeatedly rescuing fellow Party members from peril and providing significant support and assistance to the Communist underground resistance movement in Suzhou. With unwavering faith, he courageously advances, growing stronger through the struggle.
