Aaron Yan was sentenced to 7 months in prison, suspended for 3 years
On May 30, 2024, Aaron Yan was sentenced to 7 months in prison, suspended for 3 years, for allegedly filming and leaking sexually explicit videos. His friend, Chen, who had kept the inappropriate images for 5 years, was convicted of possessing youth sexual images without justification and sentenced to 4 months in prison.
The incident began on June 20, 2023, when a netizen reported that Aaron Yan had sexually harassed a 17-year-old boy and filmed private footage. On June 21, Aaron Yan appeared at a press conference held by private footage director Qiu Yaole, admitting that he and Qiu were in a relationship and denying that the private footage had been leaked by him. He then bowed in apology. The police searched Aaron Yan’s home and seized his computer and phone.
The police investigation confirmed that Aaron Yan had engaged in the act of secretly filming, and on that day, the prosecutor determined that Aaron Yan had committed child sexual exploitation and restricted his exit from and entry into Taiwan, allowing him to only engage in activities within Taiwan.
On December 8, 2023, the case made a core progress, as the prosecution found that the evidence for the charge of forced sexual intercourse was insufficient and decided not to prosecute Yin for this crime. However, he was charged with possessing and secretly filming underage private videos. On March 11, 2024, Aaron Yan paid 1.5 million NTD (approximately $50,000) in bail and had the ban on his departure from Taiwan lifted, allowing him to resume overseas work. He also reached a settlement with the victim, Yao Le.
On May 29th, the victim of the incident posted about his new relationship on social media and wrote, “Out with the old, in with the new,” which seemed to be hinting at Aaron Yan!
