The pressure of the final year of high school was intense. Du Man went to sit in the front row, and Jing Qichi sat next to Chen Huan'er, saying he was afraid she would be lonely studying by herself. Liao Xinyan asked Chen Huan'er if she wanted to attend a tutoring class that was really accurate with exam predictions. Chen Huan'er was interested but decided against it after hearing the cost of 200 yuan per class.

After class, Jing Qichi gave Chen Huan'er 200 yuan to attend the class first, saying he would find a way to handle things later. At least one of them needed to be successful, so they could make their families proud. Chen Huan'er thought about it and decided to use 100 yuan as her tuition fee. That way, she would go to class and tell Jing Qichi about it when she got back.

Chen Huan'er was very eager to help Jing Qichi with his studies, but he was often uninterested. She carefully placed the 100 yuan he gave her in a drawer without touching it. Everyone was working hard for the college entrance exams, and Chen Huan'er kept urging Jing Qichi to study. Their playful times together felt like youth itself. Chen Huan'er and Jing Qichi made a pact: for every point she improved, she would buy him a cup of milk tea.

As Chen Huan'er drank more milk tea, Jing Qichi's scores gradually improved too. During evening study sessions, Chen Huan'er was a bit troubled, so Jing Qichi told her to take a nap. She must be tired and not able to concentrate. Chen Huan'er lay her head down on the desk but couldn't sleep. Jing Qichi did the same and shoved his headphones into her ears.

The next day, Chen Huan'er waited for Jing Qichi downstairs to go to school, but he was nowhere to be found. His family wasn't home either, and he wasn’t answering his phone. Chen Huan'er anxiously asked Qian Lina what was going on, but Qian Lina told her to focus on her exam first. At this moment, Jing Qichi and Lin Yifan were at Jing Liqiang’s fire station because a sudden wildfire had broken out.

Jing Liqiang went missing while rescuing people. When Lin Yifan learned that Jing Liqiang had passed away, she collapsed to the ground in shock, unable to accept it. In that moment, Jing Qichi grew up. Under the rain, Chen Huan'er saw the calmness in Jing Qichi's eyes and was filled with worry. Many days passed, and Jing Qichi didn't come to school. Chen Huan'er texted him asking how he was.

She told him that if he needed someone to be with him, she would be at the secret base. Jing Qichi replied that he was coming. When he showed up, Chen Huan'er gave him sweet milk tea. Jing Qichi’s eyes were red, and in a hoarse voice, he told her that he was fine and would return to school the next day. Lin Yifan arranged for Jing Qichi to undergo special training at the Tonglin Sports School.

Jing Qichi knew this was something Jing Liqiang had set up for him. However, Jing Qichi failed the physical exam despite trying his best, and his legs were still not in the best condition. Song Cong went to keep him company. Jing Qichi, with red eyes, asked him why, despite working so hard, he still didn't succeed.

He recalled that Jing Liqiang shouldn’t have been on duty that day, but he swapped shifts to arrange for a coach from the sports school to help Jing Qichi. Jing Qichi thought, if he had realized this sooner, would Jing Liqiang still be alive? After Jing Liqiang passed away, Lin Yifan aged considerably. Both she and Jing Qichi found it hard to face each other.

But she told him that he would always be her pride, and so would Jing Liqiang. Today was Jing Liqiang’s birthday, and everything Jing Qichi cherished was taken away. Chen Huan'er looked at the closed windows, filled with worry for him. Jing Qichi returned to school. He gave Chen Huan'er his MP3 player, telling her that when she felt stressed, she could listen to it. He was now focused on his studies. Jing Qichi’s progress was noticeable.

He went through three phases: the first phase was becoming a study machine, the second phase was when he seemed a bit crazy, solely focused on doing exercises during class. In the third phase, the "study god" emerged, and Jing Qichi’s ranking rose significantly. He was now only five places behind Chen Huan'er. On New Year's Eve, Qian Lina and Lin Yifan both had to work.

After having dumplings with Qian Lina at the hospital, Chen Huan'er went home and tried to find Jing Qichi to hang out, but he was still studying. Chen Huan'er then called Song Cong to join her in buying six bottles of beer at Du Man's convenience store.
