> Back for You Recap

The police were investigating a series of recent midnight murders. The killer was extremely cruel, mainly targeting intoxicated women. He would tie them up, drain their blood little by little, and then dispose of their bodies. The Chief Inspector originally intended for A Lai to take on the case, but A Jia seized the opportunity instead. A Lai didn’t mind. He went to the hospital to continue reading stories to Lu Na.

This time, the book contained a story he had never seen before, which struck him as odd. When he turned to the first page, he realized it was related to the midnight murder case the police were investigating. He began reading the story to Lu Na. The protagonists of the story were Jia Hua and Chun Ying. Jia Hua was a sailor, and Chun Ying was a doctor.

The two were lovers, but Jia Hua had been missing for over a year. Chun Ying had been waiting for his return all this time. One evening, after completing a surgery, Chun Ying missed the last bus home and had to walk with a colleague instead. Neither of them noticed that someone was secretly following them. Meanwhile, a patrolling police officer spotted a suspicious person and began chasing him.

Chun Ying quickly pulled her colleague along, urging them to hurry home. They were well aware of the midnight murder cases, and she felt that the streets were too dangerous at night. A few days later, Chun Ying went to a dance hall with her colleague. Since she didn’t know how to dance, she sat at the bar drinking alone. However, a former classmate who had once pursued her appeared.

Chun Ying had no interest in him and ignored him completely, causing him to leave disappointed. Unbeknownst to her, the classmate secretly spiked her drink. Just then, Jia Hua, who had been secretly following Chun Ying, noticed what happened. After the classmate left, Chun Ying reached for her drink. At that moment, Jia Hua pretended to be a drunkard and stumbled into her, spilling the drink. After successfully preventing her from drinking the spiked liquor, he quietly left.

Chun Ying didn’t recognize Jia Hua and simply ordered another drink. However, the collision exposed Jia Hua’s presence. A group of gangsters from the River Gang, who had been hunting him down, recognized him. In the ensuing fight, Jia Hua was injured, but he managed to escape. Drunk and disoriented, Chun Ying left the dance hall alone, only to be confronted by the classmate with bad intentions.

Just as he was about to assault her, Jia Hua appeared in time and took her away. They got into a chauffeur-driven car, and Jia Hua instructed the driver to take them to a hotel. After settling Chun Ying in a room, he went to the bathroom to tend to his wounds. When Chun Ying woke up, she was confused about where she was. The dim lighting prevented her from seeing the man in front of her clearly.

Only when Jia Hua turned on the light did she realize that the man standing before her was the lover she had been waiting for all this time. Overcome with emotion, she hugged Jia Hua and expressed how much she had missed him. However, she accidentally touched his wound. Just as she was about to help him treat it, there was a knock at the door.

It was the chauffeur, claiming to have brought them the bag they had left in the car. Chun Ying, unsuspecting, opened the door—only to be attacked. Seeing Chun Ying in danger, Jia Hua disregarded his injuries and fought the assailant. However, he was no match for the attacker and was quickly overpowered. The killer took out a knife, ready to slit Chun Ying’s throat. Desperate, Jia Hua used a hidden blade to cut through the ropes binding his hands.

Before the murderer could act, the River Gang members arrived—it was Big Beard and Skinny Monkey, two low-ranking gang members. They had been chasing Jia Hua for over a year, mistakenly believing that he had stolen a shipment of opium. In reality, Jia Hua had been deceived. He had unknowingly helped smuggle what he thought was red wine, only to realize at the delivery point that the shipment had been swapped for actual wine.

Someone had switched the cargo, but he had no idea who. His colleague had been killed by Skinny Monkey and Big Beard, but Jia Hua had managed to escape by diving into the river. Since then, he had been on the run, unable to contact Chun Ying for fear of putting her in danger. A chaotic battle erupted between Skinny Monkey, Big Beard, and the murderer.

The murderer killed Skinny Monkey, while Jia Hua, in a desperate attempt to save Chun Ying, killed both Big Beard and the murderer. However, he was critically injured in the process. Knowing he wouldn’t survive, Jia Hua made one final request to Chun Ying: to take him to the mountaintop where they used to watch the sunrise together. No longer needing to run or hide, Jia Hua passed away in Chun Ying’s arms as the sun rose.

A Lai, reflecting on the midnight murder case, realized that a crucial clue was hidden in the comic. He suspected that the chauffeur outside the dance hall was the killer. Without hesitation, he contacted his colleagues at the police station. A Jia rushed to the scene and, sure enough, found the murder weapon in the trunk of a chauffeur-driven car. The case was finally solved. The Chief Inspector was deeply impressed by A Lai’s deduction skills.

However, A Lai simply stated that he had received a tip from a "beautiful informant" and, in order to protect her identity, refused to reveal any details.
