A Lai saw the news in the newspaper about Liu Meng collaborating with actor Wang Ke, which reminded him of the story in the comic. He immediately went to the woods and dug up Wang Ke’s body. He sent for Wei Lun, and during the interrogation, A Jia appeared with a box of gold bars, accusing A Lai of accepting a bribe.

He claimed that it was Wei Lun who had bribed A Lai, asking him to help cover up the crime. Wei Lun, upon hearing this, surprisingly admitted to it, leading to A Lai being suspended from his position. This was all part of A Jia’s plan. He had instructed Xiao Zhao to keep an eye on A Lai. Xiao Zhao discovered that A Lai had received a letter on his desk, which contained pictures of waterfowl.

Xiao Zhao immediately informed A Jia, and from the location of the photos, they found the gold bars and framed A Lai for the crime. A Jia’s ultimate goal was to be promoted to the position of police chief, and A Lai, being a strong competitor, needed to be taken out of the running. When Lu Na woke up in the hospital, she had lost her memory.

She had no idea how she had ended up there or even who she was. A Lai came to the hospital, and the doctor suggested electroshock therapy. However, A Lai decided to take Lu Na home instead. Lu Na didn’t trust A Lai, and the only reason she followed him was because, while unconscious, she vaguely heard someone reading a story to her, and it was A Lai’s voice.

At A Lai’s home, Lu Na asked to see his police officer badge. But since A Lai had been suspended, the badge had been surrendered. To prove his identity, A Lai showed her his police academy graduation certificate. He then told her that the comic was connected to her case and that his suspension was also related to her. Their conversation was overheard by Xiao Zhao, who found it suspicious and quickly went to inform A Jia.

A Lai asked Lu Na to try recalling what she had drawn in the comic, but she couldn’t remember. She was hungry, so A Lai cooked some noodles for her. While A Lai played with a lighter, Lu Na heard the sound and suddenly a man’s face appeared in her mind. She quickly drew the face, although she didn’t know why it came to her. Just then, the doorman came to find A Lai.

He reported that a man had been found in the storage room, sitting on the floor and repeatedly banging his head against the cabinet, appearing to be delirious. Lu Na and A Lai went downstairs to check. Lu Na recognized the man as the one she had just drawn. A Lai told Lu Na to go back to her room and get the comic. Lu Na took all the notebooks but left the drawing of the man behind.

After they left, A Lai and Xiao Zhao broke into A Lai’s home and discovered the drawing. They also learned from the doorman about the strange man in the storage room. The two decided to follow A Lai and investigate, but unfortunately, they were discovered and lost track of him. A Lai and Lu Na, based on the small tag around the man’s neck, ended up at the Old Friend Hotel.

According to the doorman, this hotel was newly opened, but when A Lai and Lu Na arrived, they found it was actually an abandoned place. They opened the door, and A Lai noticed a newspaper on the floor, which turned out to be a newspaper from twenty years in the future. He found it strange. At that moment, the strange man picked up an axe and looked at A Lai. Lu Na was also his target.

If it weren’t for Lu Na, he wouldn’t be in trouble. While Lu Na tried to escape, she tripped and dropped her notebook. The wind blew the pages open, and the comic began to form on the previously blank pages. The man’s name was Da Bing. He and his father were both workers at the Old Friend Hotel, living in room 237. Da Bing’s father frequently beat him for his mistakes, making Da Bing terrified of his father.

One day, Da Bing was wrongly accused of stealing a customer’s gold watch. His father made him strip in front of everyone to prove his innocence. Da Bing did as told, but later, the gold watch was found in the clothes sent for washing. His father hoped the customer would apologize, but instead, they humiliated him. The hotel manager sided with the customer.

That night, Da Bing’s father gave him a glass of milk laced with sleeping pills and then went to the customer’s room to kill him and steal the gold watch. Later, some colleagues teased Da Bing and tricked him into drinking alcohol. When his father saw this, he called Da Bing to room 237 and beat him up. That night, his father gave him another glass of milk, and while Da Bing was asleep, he killed the colleague who had been teasing him.
