Back From the Brink Episode 13 Recap
> Back From the Brink Recap
Yan Hui saw her senior brother, who had always been good to her, being knocked unconscious by Bai Xiaosheng's strike. She felt extremely distressed, so she busied herself in tending to her senior brother's wounds. Upon seeing this, Bai Xiaosheng warned Yan Hui not to have any other thoughts, or else he would never spare her. Seeing Yan Hui getting somewhat angry, he gently removed her hand from her senior brother's body and reminded her to control herself. Then he tactfully walked away. Unable to tolerate Yan Hui's explosive temper any longer, she directly threw things at Bai Xiaosheng, finally driving him away.
Upon learning that Bai Xiaosheng had left, Senior Brother immediately opened his eyes and once again requested Yan Hui to return to Chenxing Mountain with him. However, Yan Hui was concerned about Tian Yao and was wholeheartedly focused on helping him retrieve the other parts of his body, so she refused to go. Yan Hui worried that if she told the truth, Senior Brother would insist on taking her back to Chenxing Mountain. Instead, she claimed to have a health problem that needed treatment. Upon hearing this, Senior Brother became even more anxious and directly grabbed Yan Hui, insisting that she accompany him to Chenxing Mountain. No matter how much Yan Hui resisted, he wouldn't let go. In a fit of anger, Yan Hui struck Senior Brother, and finally, the world quieted down. Feeling guilty in her heart, Yan Hui also worried that Tian Yao's attempt to retrieve the sword might not go smoothly. Tossing and turning, she couldn't sleep at all. She didn't want to disturb Tian Yao, and even though she missed him dearly, she chose to knock herself unconscious.
Bai Xiaosheng activated the communication device in Yan Hui's hand and had a conversation with Tian Yao. He reminded Tian Yao that Senior Brother was determined to bring Yan Hui back to Chenxing Mountain. Tian Yao instructed Bai Xiaosheng to protect Yan Hui and couldn't help but quicken his pace to retrieve the sword. He braved the extreme cold and approached Chi Yan Long Ya, but to his surprise, when he placed his hand on the hilt of the sword, he couldn't draw it out. Tian Yao remembered that when he first forged this sword, the little spirits had bestowed blessings upon it, and only with Tian Yao's sincere heart to protect others could he wield Chi Yan Long Ya. Looking at the injuries on his hand, Tian Yao realized that he had lost his sincere heart, and the blessings from before had now become shackles.
Senior Brother always had the idea of bringing Yan Hui back to Chenxing Mountain, which angered Bai Xiaosheng. So Bai Xiaosheng threw Senior Brother into the Misty Forest, hoping to trap him there for a few days. Yan Hui caught up in time, but their understanding with Senior Brother was too deep, which annoyed Bai Xiaosheng and he didn't allow her to take Senior Brother out. A vine suddenly appeared and whisked Senior Brother away. Yan Hui didn't have time to argue with Bai Xiaosheng anymore, so she rushed into the Misty Forest and accidentally discovered that the communication device she had been wearing on her hand was missing.
Huan Xiaoyan is a native of the Misty Forest. Since birth, she has lived here and is best at planning funerals for people. The population in the Misty Forest is scarce, almost nonexistent, so when Yan Hui appeared, Huan Xiaoyan was very excited and immediately associated her with death-related matters. Yan Hui wanted to stay alive and leave, but she found herself back to the starting point after circling around. It was then that she learned from Huan Xiaoyan that this place was haunted by real ghostly walls. Bai Xiaosheng, since entering the Misty Forest, felt that something was off. He had a vague feeling that his mother was calling him, so he gradually ventured deeper step by step.
Bai Xiaosheng was enticed by the ring and put it on his hand, which led him to be possessed and trapped in his own unpleasant memories. He remembered being regarded as a wicked child and given to Fu Yin, yearning for his mother to come and find him. However, no matter how many times he counted to one hundred, his mother never came. By a fortunate coincidence, Bai Xiaosheng returned to the village, but the people of Shadow Village did not want him back. Bai Xiaosheng heard derogatory words like "sacrificial offering" and "wicked child" being directed at him. In his desolation, he killed the village chief, causing the splattering blood to frighten the villagers, who fled in panic. Meanwhile, his own mother sat paralyzed on the ground. Bai Xiaosheng asked his mother if she had ever come to find him, and although she lied and said she did, he knew she hadn't. So, he embraced the role of the wicked child as described by his mother and killed her.
Bai Xiaosheng was immersed in his memories, and the ring on his hand seemed to possess a magical power, amplifying the dark side of his heart. Thorns sprouted abundantly in the misty forest, quickly surrounding numerous trees. Yan Hui, accompanied by Huan Xiaoyan, escaped while listening to Huan Xiaoyan's account of the ring's effects. She suspected that Bai Xiaosheng had fallen under its influence and hurriedly went to find him. Finally, just as Bai Xiaosheng counted to one hundred, Yan Hui caught up with him. She brushed the ring off his hand, and he immediately regained clarity.
The misty forest returned to its normal state, but the king mentioned by Huan Xiaoyan inside the ring remained silent. Suddenly, a disturbance occurred in the forest, and a large amount of black mist attacked Bai Xiaosheng and Yan Hui. Bai Xiaosheng quickly activated a protective shield and urged Yan Hui to leave. Yan Hui knew the situation was dangerous and wanted to unleash the dragon's fire to suppress the black mist, but she couldn't summon it no matter how hard she tried. Fortunately, Tian Yao sensed that Yan Hui was in trouble and, driven by the desire to save her, forcibly pulled out the Chi Yan Long Ya at a critical moment, rescuing Yan Hui and removing the black energy from her sea of consciousness. In the end, Tian Yao collapsed, while Chi Yan Long Ya regained its freedom and flew back to the Dragon Valley.
