Back From the Brink Episode 18 Recap
> Back From the Brink Recap
Guang Han Men discovered that Zhu Li, the Nine-Tailed Fox Prince of Qingqiu, caused an explosion in their own mountain. They were extremely angry and suspicious of how Zhu Li crossed the Black River. They decided to strengthen the seal. Tian Yao was worried about Yan Hui, but unfortunately, the Heart-Protecting Scale had been separated from Yan Hui's body for more than three days, and there was no response anymore. Yan Hui was also unwilling to show herself. Tian Yao wanted to find Yan Hui, which made the task even more difficult. However, Tian Yao refused to give up and kept paying attention everywhere. As a result, he actually saw Yan Hui in a tavern. Yan Hui sat alone at a table and felt Tian Yao's gaze. She was somewhat excited, but quickly remembered how Tian Yao ruthlessly dug out her Heart-Protecting Scale from her chest, so she didn't want to see him. Tian Yao tried to approach Yan Hui, but Bai Xiaosheng appeared and immediately took Yan Hui away.
Yan Hui pondered over it and decided not to entangle with Tian Yao anymore. She decided to go to Qingqiu early, so she went with Bai Xiaosheng to cut the Guava Red Bamboo. However, the bamboo was green and not red at all, which made Yan Hui and Bai Xiaosheng doubt themselves, suspecting that they had cut the wrong bamboo. Suddenly, Tian Yao appeared and brought out a bundle of Guava Red Bamboo, intending to help Yan Hui cross the river. However, Yan Hui no longer trusted him and kept hiding behind Bai Xiaosheng, making sure he wouldn't leave her. Bai Xiaosheng quickly tried to gain Yan Hui's trust, grabbed her, and disappeared with a dark aura. Unexpectedly, they bumped into Zhu Li, the Prince of Qingqiu, and all three of them revealed their forms together.
Ling Xiao caught up with the people from Guang Han Men, and Zhu Li took the opportunity while Ling Xiao was blaming Yan Hui to slip away quietly. Yan Hui didn't want to be bothered by Tian Yao and wanted to shake off Ling Xiao. She decided to push everything that happened in Guang Han Men onto Tian Yao. Tian Yao felt bitter inside but didn't say anything. He stayed behind to handle the mess. Yan Hui and Bai Xiaosheng took the chance to escape. They caught up with Zhu Li and together they boarded a raft to cross the Black River. When the bamboo raft reached the center of the river, they encountered a whirlpool. Yan Hui saw Bai Xiaosheng feeling extremely sick and worried that something might happen to him. She quickly tied him up with a rope. However, due to inertia, she herself was flung out and sank to the bottom of the river.
After Tian Yao finished dealing with the people from Guang Han Men, he hurriedly went into the river to save Yan Hui. Unexpectedly, when Yan Hui, who had been rescued and opened her eyes, saw Tian Yao, she avoided him as if she was terrified, and kept pleading with him to let her go. Her fearful and cautious demeanor, devoid of any trust, pained Tian Yao's heart. Yan Hui believed that she had never done anything bad to Tian Yao, yet he had become another Su Ying, hurting her. Therefore, she didn't want to have any connection with Tian Yao anymore and left on her own.
Although Tian Yao didn't openly follow Yan Hui, he secretly kept an eye on her. When he saw her camping in the wilderness, he draped his cloak over Yan Hui. Bai Xiaosheng knew all along that Tian Yao was following them. Upon seeing Tian Yao's thoughtful gesture, he secretly covered Yan Hui with his own coat. This greatly moved Yan Hui when she woke up the next day.
Tian Yao picked wild fruits for Yan Hui, and Bai Xiaosheng unwilling to be outdone, also picked a lot. As a result, Yan Hui ate too much and felt full. Tian Yao, hiding in the shadows, felt very uncomfortable when he learned that Bai Xiaosheng was attentive to Yan Hui. Yan Hui and Bai Xiaosheng wanted to follow Zhu Li back to the Qing Qiu Palace to steal the secret treasure, but they didn't want Tian Yao to follow them. So they tried various methods along the way to shake him off, but no matter what they did, they couldn't get rid of him.
When Zhu Li found out, he went to scold Tian Yao, accusing him of being a third party and interfering with the relationship between Bai Xiaosheng and Yan Hui. These words greatly saddened Tian Yao, and he finally decided to leave. However, Huan Xiaoyan arrived at that moment and immediately got into a fight with Zhu Li. Neither of them backed down, and they ended up in a very sorry state. Huan Xiaoyan told Yan Hui that after Tian Yao returned from Guang Han Palace, he was looking for her everywhere. She also mentioned that Su Ying killed Yun Yun and was holding other little spirits hostage, demanding that Tian Yao hand over the Heart-Protecting Scale.
Only then did Yan Hui understand that when Tian Yao dug out the Heart-Protecting Scale from his own body that day, it was a last resort. But now she was controlled by the dark energy, and every time she saw Tian Yao, she would be reminded of bad memories. She simply couldn't forgive Tian Yao. Yan Hui couldn't help but think of Yun Yun and secretly mourn her, but she was afraid she would never be able to face Tian Yao. When Tian Yao learned about this, although he was sad, he also planned to accompany Yan Hui to reach Qing Qiu. If she lived a good life there, he would leave, and from then on, they would owe each other nothing and never meet again. However, deep down, it was still difficult for him to let go.
Zhu Li took Yan Hui and Bai Xiaosheng on a shortcut to shake off Tian Yao. However, instead of losing Tian Yao, they ended up exhausting Yan Hui and Bai Xiaosheng, who had dark energy within them. It was because this secret path had karmic forces conflicting with the dark energy, making it particularly challenging for Bai Xiaosheng and Yan Hui. Tian Yao felt sorry for Yan Hui and summoned clouds to shade her from the sun. He also prepared a pot of water for Huan Xiaoyan to deliver to Yan Hui. Unfortunately, when Yan Hui saw him, the master of the dark energy in her mind commanded her to kill Tian Yao and retrieve the Heart-Protecting Scale.
