Moonlight Mystique Episode 18 Recap
> Moonlight Mystique Recap
Chang Mei arrived at the Emotion Tree, only to discover that it was actually Fan Yue disguised as A Qi. She then truthfully recounted the events of the past. After the death of the holy maiden, Ling Long, Chang Mei replaced her sister as the master of Jingyou Mountain. However, 800 years ago, the Desireless Stone was lost, and the Emotion Tree, which relied on spiritual energy to survive, began to wither.
To preserve the tree’s vitality and silence the criticism from her tribe, Chang Mei decided to sacrifice herself to the tree. A Qi, deeply in love with Chang Mei, couldn’t bear to see her sacrifice herself and voluntarily offered his own life to sustain the tree. Chang Wu explained that after A Qi's death, the Emotion Tree indeed flourished briefly.
However, several centuries later, they realized the tree's spiritual energy was finite and eventually depleted, causing the tree to begin consuming humans. Initially, no abnormalities were noticed. However, when some visitors from other races inadvertently passed by the tree and were devoured, the truth became apparent. A Qi's corpse lay beneath the Emotion Tree. Loyal to both the Fox Tribe and Chang Mei, A Qi would never harm his people, but outsiders naturally became victims.
Those approaching the tree would be enticed by its illusions, seeing visions of their desires and walking willingly to their deaths. Even so, Xiao Ba believed there was more to this mystery, as it was unlikely to have been A Qi’s intention. He pleaded with Bai Shuo to investigate further and uncover the truth, which might release A Qi’s lingering regrets.
At the same time, Chang Mei hoped Bai Shuo could use her blood to summon A Qi’s spirit, but Fan Yue firmly opposed this idea. Reflecting on A Qi’s dying wishes, Bai Shuo decided to help. Meanwhile, Cang Shan secretly hid the wedding dress to prevent Tian Huo’s marriage. Tian Huo admitted she truly liked Mu Jiu but assured Cang Shan their bond was only friendship.
Fan Yue, frustrated by Bai Shuo’s willingness to risk herself for Chang Mei, dragged her back. Bai Shuo, however, insisted on taking this opportunity to uncover the truth. She explained that avoiding challenges out of fear would never lead to growth. Convinced by her determination and trust, Fan Yue reluctantly agreed. Xiao Ba, aware of Chang Mei’s plans, feared that Bai Shuo’s blood would only empower the evil within the Emotion Tree, jeopardizing the entire Fox Tribe.
Although the Desireless Stone was a sacred artifact of the tribe, Chang Mei realized that the stone held real divine power. She sought to use its strength to resolve the Emotion Tree’s crisis, ensuring its vitality for millennia to come. Initially, Bai Shuo planned to fulfill Chang Mei’s request after the wedding. Unexpectedly, Chang Mei insisted on doing it that very night, raising Bai Shuo’s suspicions.
She probed Mu Jiu about his birth date, intuitively sensing that the timing of the wedding had a hidden purpose. Bai Shuo also noticed Cang Shan’s feelings for Tian Huo and, while offering comfort, urged him to protect her. Before the wedding, Mu Jiu, guarded by the elders, suspected the wedding was a cover for his succession as the mountain master. Determined, he escaped to find Tian Huo, only to discover that Chang Mei had cursed her.
Furious, Mu Jiu confronted Chang Mei, and the two quarreled. Chang Mei warned Tian Huo not to mention the Desireless Stone again and used Tian Huo’s life to coerce Mu Jiu into accepting the mountain master position. Elsewhere, Xiao Ba found an excuse to send Fan Yue away to help lift Tian Huo’s curse. However, Fan Yue also fell victim to the curse. As Mu Jiu assumed the mountain master role, dissent arose among the tribe.
Many objected, given his lack of familial ties to the Fox Tribe, being merely an adopted nephew of Chang Mei centuries ago. Surprisingly, Chang Sheng strongly supported Mu Jiu and threatened to kill anyone who opposed him. At that moment, Cang Shan appeared and assisted Mu Jiu in escaping. Bai Shuo, following Chang Mei to the Emotion Tree, questioned why she was so focused on Mu Jiu and why he was to inherit the mountain master role.
Through deduction, Bai Shuo revealed Mu Jiu’s true identity as the son of Rong Xian and Ling Long. Chang Mei, fearing the curse and resentment lingering from Ling Long’s death would harm Mu Jiu, had gone to great lengths to conceal the truth. Chang Mei selected this day for Mu Jiu’s succession because it was Ling Long’s death anniversary. She intended to restore everything that belonged to Ling Long.
Bai Shuo’s deduction angered Chang Mei, who bound her to the Emotion Tree as a blood sacrifice. Fu Ling witnessed this and prepared to intervene. However, Zhong Zhao used an evil parasite to knock Fu Ling unconscious, deciding to act alone.
