Since the sect leader, as a master, would also be implicated, they insisted that a junior disciple, who was innocent, take over as the sect leader after their death. Wu Mowang's Unfounded Skill had reached perfection, but lacking experience outside the sect, there were concerns that if she succeeded, she might lead the disciples against Sanqi Dao relentlessly. Hence, the request for a junior disciple to take over immediately after their death. Sanqi Dao is now attacking the Clear Serenity Sect.
Liu Yunxiao confesses to Ye Wuzhi that he killed those sixteen people because they had killed his friend and the entire merchant group first. He believes that if he hadn't stopped them, they would have harmed other merchant groups. This saves them from immediate trouble. Sanqi Dao is wanted because, in his prime, he captured many wanted criminals for the authorities.
