Chen Yan, in order to prevent his identity from being exposed, deliberately provoked Mu Nan by placing the handkerchief conspicuously when Mu Nan came to investigate. As expected, Mu Nan couldn't remain calm when it came to Sima Wangyue and, in a fit of anger, he swung his sword and injured Chen Yan, hitting him where it hurt the most. Although Mu Nan felt remorseful afterward, he couldn't escape punishment and was confined to his quarters. At a critical moment, a soldier reported that the assassin had been captured. But knowing Sima Wangyue's true identity, General Cao felt even more frustrated and couldn't tolerate a young girl bossing him around. When Sima Wangyue was alone with Mu Nan, she advised him not to dwell on the past incidents. However, Mu Nan believed that Chen Yan had ill intentions towards Sima Wangyue but had no evidence to prove it.

Later, the generals gathered with the marshal to discuss the attack on the enemy fortress, Xifeng Fort. Unexpectedly, news of Sima Wangyue's true gender spread within the army, and various vulgar and indecent discussions arose. Mu Nan ended up fighting with the soldiers over this, escalating the situation. Sima Wangyue had no choice but to admit that she was impersonating her sick older brother. The crowd was in an uproar upon hearing this, and to maintain stability within the army, Sima Jin had to temporarily detain Sima Wangyue.

That night, Mu Nan came to find Chen Yan, angrily questioning whether he had leaked the information. Chen Yan immediately denied it, stating that Sima Wangyue exposing her identity would not benefit him either. Meanwhile, the soldiers, who knew that the military leader was a woman, began discussing her appearance in women's clothing. Those familiar with Chen Yan believed that he must have known all along, explaining why he had helped Sima Wangyue during their previous bathing incident.

Before setting off with the army, Chen Yan secretly visited Sima Wangyue and gave her a carved wooden figure as a gift, believing that there was no difference between men and women when it came to fighting on the battlefield. However, their conversation was overheard by Sima Jin, who admired Chen Yan's wit and ordered him to redeem himself by assisting General Cao in battle.

Initially hesitant, Chen Yan had no choice but to accept Sima Jin's appointment with Sima Wangyue's urging, becoming the vanguard of the western route. After Chen Yan left, Sima Wangyue apologized to her father, regretting her naive and simplistic thinking in the past. Moreover, she had made continuous mistakes since arriving at the isolated city, causing her father's reputation to suffer.
