General Niu sought to win over Chen Xiong and Li Xiong, falsely claiming that Yang Jinglan had framed him and that he might be disloyal to the regional governor. He asked whether the two would be willing to follow him. Chen Xiong criticized him for betraying the regional governor, but to his surprise, General Niu ordered his men to kill Chen Xiong on the spot. Witnessing this, Li Xiong had no choice but to submit temporarily.

General Niu promised that once he became the new regional governor, he would promote Li Xiong as Vice Commander. Ji Yingying and her group finally arrived in Tubo, successfully opening up the trade route. The Tubo market showed great interest in Shu brocade. Yang Jinglan discovered that Cheng Fengze had escaped and pursued him alone, urging Cheng Fengze to return with him.

Cheng Fengze stalled for time and deliberately handed General Niu’s waist token to Yang Jinglan, suggesting they could work together to eliminate General Niu. Yang Jinglan, understanding Cheng Fengze’s plan to use him as a tool, stated he would not confuse right with wrong. Cheng Fengze provoked him, saying he intended to take Ji Yingying back to Nanzhao.

Enraged, Yang Jinglan drew his sword and pointed it at Cheng Fengze, who then deliberately pushed his chest into the blade, getting himself injured. Chihu arrived with reinforcements, and everyone saw Cheng Fengze wounded. Cheng Fengze exaggerated the situation, accusing Yang Jinglan of attempting to assassinate him. He claimed he could not go to Chang’an, blaming Chang’an officials for negligence and instructing the Six Departments to deliver a message to Chang’an that Nanzhao would avenge this grievance.

The Six Departments, unable to explain the situation, allowed Cheng Fengze to leave and planned instead to capture Yang Jinglan to present to the emperor. Fortunately, Gao Fang and others helped Yang Jinglan escape successfully. Under pressure, the Six Departments issued a wanted notice, and everyone believed Yang Jinglan was a murderer. Yang Jinglan decided to turn the situation to his advantage by seeking help from the regional governor, Mu Hui, believing he would not tolerate General Niu’s behavior.

Gao Fang mocked the Six Departments for their incompetence and planned to infiltrate the system to present the Tubo merchants’ confessions to Mu Hui. Yang Jinglan, worried that Ji Yingying might be implicated, deliberately wrote a divorce letter and asked Gao Fang to deliver it to Ji Yingying. Before parting ways, Yang Jinglan promised to marry Ji Yingying in grand style once everything was resolved. Ji Yingying wished him safety in return.

Zhao Xiuyuan appeared disheveled and struggled to explain what had happened to Yuyuan. Niu Wuniang prayed devoutly and learned that Yuyuan had been sold as a servant and later killed. Overcome with grief, she was devastated. Zhao Xiuyuan apologized to Niu Wuniang, feeling deeply responsible for what had happened. Niu Wuniang, sobbing uncontrollably, seemed to see Yuyuan’s shadow, unable to accept her death. She believed that Yuyuan was a part of her own being.

Yang Erye gathered the family elders, slandering Ji Yingying as incompetent and suggesting that the Yang family accept the Zhao family’s orders to ease the situation. Yang Jingshan firmly opposed this, but Yang Erye took charge, insisting that accepting the Zhao family’s orders was the only way forward for the Yang family. Just then, Jinxiu arrived with news that Ji Yingying had returned. Everyone rushed to the entrance to see her.

Ji Yingying presented the remaining profits to the Yang family elders, announcing that she had successfully opened a new trade route and sold Yang family brocade to Tubo. Yang Erye panicked and accused Ji Yingying of overstepping her authority. He called for the county office to investigate her, claiming she was related to someone on the wanted list. However, Ji Yingying had anticipated this and presented the forged divorce letter, using her unique status to prevent her arrest.

When Yang Erye refused to return the Zhao family order, Ji Yingying threatened him, saying that all orders bore her signature and that she could collaborate with other families instead. Worried about losing business, the Yang family elders agreed to let Ji Yingying take charge. Yang Erye complained to Zhao Xiuyuan, but Zhao Xiuyuan excused himself, saying he couldn’t interfere in family matters.

Ji Yingying found that Yang Shi had fallen unconscious and, upon discovering she had been poisoned, suspected Yang Erye was behind it. She instructed Ji Yaoting to keep an eye on Yang Erye while asking Yang Jingshan to take care of the family for now. Zhuge Hong presented the real divorce letter to Ji Yingying, confirming its authenticity. Realizing that Yang Jinglan’s life was uncertain, Ji Yingying quietly resolved to wait for him.

Ji Yingying gathered the family elders under the pretense of distributing orders and announced that Yang Shi had recovered. Yang Erye did not believe this and nearly exposed himself in front of everyone. Afterward, he approached Zhao Xiuyuan for help, unsure of how to resolve the situation. Ji Yingying and her group burst into the room, overhearing Yang Erye’s conversation. She accused Yang Erye of poisoning Yang Shi and declared that he would face family punishment.

Yang Erye knelt and begged for mercy, admitting that he had been instructed by Cheng Fengze. Ji Yingying condemned him for his despicable actions. Learning that Cheng Fengze had taken ledgers from multiple families, she realized that the situation was far more dangerous than she had imagined.
