Butterflied Lover Episode 5 Recap
> Butterflied Lover Recap
Tang Qianyue had been waiting for Ling Changfeng at a stall for three days and three nights. When he finally appeared, she ate ravenously, her eyes never leaving him, fearing he might disappear again. Ling Changfeng asked her to take her time eating. When he wanted to pour some water for her, he found the teapot empty. He called out for a servant but no one came, so he decided to fetch water himself.
Tang Qianyue immediately stopped eating and grasped his arm, insisting she would not be left alone. Ling Changfeng, having no other choice, took her with him to get water. Since Tang Qianyue had nowhere else to go in the city, Ling Changfeng brought her back to his mansion. He invited her to stay, explaining that he was used to living alone and there were hardly any other people in the estate.
Noticing her unkempt appearance, he told her he would arrange for clean clothes and suggested she take a bath. Ling Changfeng had thought Tang Qianyue was mute, but after she sniffed herself and remarked, "Smelly. Smell it," he was surprised to realize she could speak. After this discovery, Ling Changfeng bought Tang Qianyue a string of candied haws, which she thanked him for.
Ling Changfeng, knowing Tang Qianyue had never bathed before, went to great lengths to bring Auntie Hong, a former member of the Wuxing Faction of Honghua Hall who had long retired, back to the mansion specifically to help Tang Qianyue bathe. Auntie Hong initially questioned why she was summoned for such a seemingly trivial task, feeling it was an underutilization of her skills, but as Ling Changfeng was her young master, she agreed.
Inside, Auntie Hong reassured Tang Qianyue and noted her remarkably fair skin and an unusual birthmark on her body. When Auntie Hong offered soap for bathing, Tang Qianyue, unfamiliar with it, bit into it. Auntie Hong quickly made her spit it out. After the bath, Tang Qianyue stumbled on a piece of soap while exiting, but was unharmed.
Once clean, Tang Qianyue's appearance momentarily stunned Ling Changfeng, and he only snapped out of it when she smiled at him as usual. Auntie Hong asked Ling Changfeng if he wanted Tang Qianyue's long hair styled, but he decided to discuss it the next day. He then tended to a minor injury Tang Qianyue sustained. Ling Changfeng asked Tang Qianyue her name, but she responded that she didn't have one, struggling to recall her past before the mountain forest.
He comforted her, telling her that everyone has things they don't want to talk about, and declared that from then on, his home was her home, and they were family. One day, as it started to rain, Tang Qianyue placed every container she could find outside to collect rainwater, even tilting an umbrella to catch droplets. Ling Changfeng, seeing her, asked what she was doing.
Tang Qianyue explained that Auntie Hong had told her water was essential for cooking, washing, and bathing, so she was gathering as much as possible. Amused, Ling Changfeng waited for the rain to stop, then took Tang Qianyue to a well. He taught her how to draw water from it, explaining that the well provided a constant supply for drinking, cooking, washing, and bathing. Tang Qianyue smartly concluded that the washed clothes should be hung in the yard to dry.
Ling Changfeng praised her intelligence, and repeatedly reminded her to wear shoes inside the house. Tang Qianyue, however, misinterpreted the inexhaustible nature of the well water. Fearing it would overflow and flood the mansion, she began washing every piece of clothing in the house, even Ling Changfeng's clothes that he had just taken off after his bath. Ling Changfeng emerged wrapped in a tablecloth, surprised to find his clothes gone.
He told Tang Qianyue that she should not enter the bathroom casually, especially when he was bathing, as "it is improper for men and women to have intimate contact." Tang Qianyue didn't understand and asked him why, leaving him at a loss for words. When he asked why she washed so many clothes, she explained her concern about the well overflowing.
Ling Changfeng reiterated that the well water was inexhaustible and, if she wanted to use water, she could wipe the floor. Tang Qianyue often waited in the corridor for Ling Changfeng to return, recognizing his footsteps. Ling Changfeng explained that he went to the office to work, which she could also understand as "hunting" as he would bring "prey" (money) back. Realizing she always listened for his return, Ling Changfeng bought a copper bell.
He explained that whenever the bell rang, it meant he was back, so she wouldn't have to strain to hear his footsteps anymore. Ling Changfeng's cooking skills were limited to making noodles, which meant they frequently ate noodles. Tang Qianyue expressed her desire for different meals. Unable to cook anything else himself, Ling Changfeng suggested hiring a cook. He managed to secure Chef Liu from the Inebriate Fairy Building.
Auntie Hong was astonished, knowing Chef Liu was famous for having given up cooking in the palace to open his own restaurant. Ling Changfeng then revealed that Chef Liu was also the 28th deputy leader of the Honghua Hall. Chef Liu immediately put Auntie Hong to work, asking her to pluck leeks from the yard. Ling Changfeng prepared to leave for work, and Tang Qianyue proudly informed him that she had learned to make soy-braised pork from Chef Liu.
She asked him to return early that evening so she could cook it for him, to which he agreed. Upon his return, Tang Qianyue eagerly presented him with the soy-braised pork she had made, noting humorously that the shovel used for cooking was the same one used for gardening. She offered him the first taste, but he insisted she eat first. Ling Changfeng then began teaching Tang Qianyue about money.
He explained that money could buy whatever she wanted and that he went out every day to earn it. When she asked how to make money, he took her to a stall. He bought a flowerpot from a vendor and showed her that by spending money, he was enabling the vendor to earn money. Tang Qianyue was surprised to receive so much change for one coin and questioned if that was truly how one makes money. Ling Changfeng smiled, acknowledging that he had much more to teach her.
