The next morning, Princess Yong’an rushed to the Empress Dowager to accuse Zhang Xiang of harming scholars from humble backgrounds, while Lai Luozhi added fuel to the fire. Shen Du took the opportunity to present a concealed weapon he had intercepted the previous night, suggesting that the true mastermind might be Xiao Zhong. However, Shen Du analyzed that the simultaneous accusations from three sources against Xiao Zhong seemed suspicious.

Xiao Zhong defended his innocence and earnestly requested the Empress Dowager to discern the truth. The Empress Dowager instructed Shen Du to continue his investigation to uncover the real facts. After court, Zhang Xiang hurriedly thanked Shen Du, while Lai Luozhi sneered and echoed him. Shen Du ignored them and left directly. Lu Chuichui sought Yan Xing’s advice on removing a birthmark, which left Yan Xing feeling helpless.

When Lu Chuichui went to get some items, she coincidentally encountered Pan Chi and others drowning their sorrows in alcohol. Yan Xing rushed over upon hearing the news, only to find Pan Chi thoroughly drunk. It turned out that Shen Du had already warned Pan Chi about the complex situation in the city, advising him not to get involved. Although Pan Chi was reluctant, he knew Shen Du’s words were not empty.

The scholars, inebriated, were sent away by Yan Xing in a carriage. Later, it was revealed that they had narrowly escaped attacks from three different groups the previous night, thanks to Shen Du's timely rescue. Pan Chi was not actually drunk; he had come specifically to find Yan Xing but had missed her due to a series of misunderstandings.

Learning that Shen Du and Yan Xing had married and worried that Shen Du might cause her harm, Pan Chi was conflicted. Upon returning home, Yan Xing found that Shen Du had been waiting for dinner for her, preoccupied with thoughts of her. Yan Xing praised Shen Du's martial skills but abruptly left under the pretense of visiting her family, leaving Shen Du feeling disoriented in the cold wind.

Concubine Jiang looked at her daughter with love as she drank soup, hoping for her early recovery and wishing to hold her grandchild soon. Although she had heard of the legend of Chen Huo E, Concubine Jiang paid little attention to it. When Yan Xing returned home, her father had prepared a feast, but Shen Du’s unexpected visit created a subtle atmosphere.

Shen Du happily joined the late-night meal, taking great care of Yan Xing and frequently serving her, drawing the family's attention. After the meal, Yan Xing used the excuse of talking with her mother to try to send Shen Du away, but he insisted on waiting. Yan Kuo led Shen Du to his study, showing him ancient calligraphy scrolls and unexpectedly revealing that he had been imitating Shen Du’s father's handwriting in secret.

Shen Du was deeply affected but maintained a calm exterior, taking the handwriting with him. Late at night, Shen Du took out his father’s heirloom folding fan and carefully compared it with the handwriting, eventually discovering discrepancies. He was filled with doubts and speculated that the forger might be Yan Xing’s father, Yan Kuo. As night fell, Lu Chuichui awaited the masked man, eagerly sharing her secret method for removing birthmarks and hoping he would remove his mask.

Meanwhile, Jiang Langxing felt warmth seeing Lu Chuichui’s genuine efforts. Lai Luozhi encountered Yun Que, mistaking her for an assassin, but Shen Du came to the rescue. Yun Que presented a crucial order, hoping Shen Du would help clear Jinxiu Fang’s name. Shen Du did not agree but arranged for protection. Late at night, Yun Que was attacked but was rescued by Xu Shuai.

The next day, Yun Que sought Shen Du’s help, feeling concerned about his well-being, but knowing he was married, Shen Du declined to act recklessly.
