Xu Xiangren proposed to form a brother-sister bond with Yan Xing, and she gladly accepted. He gifted her a token that commands the Yiliang people, saying it might protect her in times of danger. Yan Xing gratefully accepted the gift. Meanwhile, Lu Chuichui happened to meet Jiang Langxing, and the two of them went to draw lots together, creating a warm and natural atmosphere. At Mingsheng Temple, Pan Chi mentioned the "snake beauty," which caused a small commotion.

Shen Du, worried about Yan Xing’s safety, sent Jing Lin to find her and exaggerated the situation, prompting Yan Xing to leave early, much to Lu Chuichui’s frustration. Yun Que privately asked Yan Xing about her thoughts on Shen Du and Xu Xiangren, hinting at her admiration for Xu Xiangren. Yan Xing quickly picked up on this and teased Yun Que about having feelings for someone.

Yun Que openly admitted it, praising Xu Xiangren for his bravery and integrity, and explained that he had saved her life, so it was only natural that she had developed feelings for him. Meanwhile, Pan Chi revealed the truth elsewhere—the "snake beauty" he had seen was actually a woman disguised as a snake who had been abducted. Unable to repay him, she gave him a moth-shaped jade pendant, revealing that she had taken it from her captor. When Pan Chi asked about her background, he learned that she was a woman from Gannan, tricked by a trafficker from her hometown. Feeling pity for her, Pan Chi decided to escort her to find a Western Region merchant caravan to help her return home.

On another front, the Empress Dowager summoned Yan Xing, intending to reward Shen Du for his merits, and turned to ask Yan Xing for her opinion. Yan Xing humbly expressed that she would accept any grace from the emperor. Xu Wan suggested transferring this favor to Yan Xing by appointing her as a scribe. However, Yan Xing insisted on passing the female officer's exam to prove her own abilities.

Xu Wan, knowing that this was both a reward and a test, warned that failure would result in Yan Xing being expelled from the Six Ministries. Yet, Yan Xing resolutely accepted the challenge, demonstrating her unyielding spirit. Despite this, Yan Xing buried herself in books, desperately searching for a cure. Meanwhile, Lu Chuichui visited her mother and accidentally encountered Lai Luozhi. She felt conflicted, having heard of his infamous reputation but also sensing the kindness beneath his Ghost Face mask. Lai Luozhi handed her a prescription and reminded her to keep it secret. Lu Chuichui agreed, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
