> Melody of Golden Age Recap

Lai Luozhi's intention to rebel was clearly revealed. He had already prepared the imperial robes, determined to ascend the throne today. However, he hadn't expected the Grand Empress Dowager to still be fighting back, even willing to risk her life for one last chance. Lai Luozhi ordered Shen Du to drag away anyone in the court who opposed him, but Shen Du remained unmoved.

He had long since purged the rebels from the Jinwu Guard and was prepared to protect the Emperor and eliminate the traitors today. Shen Du had guessed Lai Luozhi's identity and had cooperated with the Grand Empress Dowager to stage a trap. Lai Luozhi, however, never fully trusted Shen Du. The envoys who came bearing gifts were fake, all members of the Fire Moth sect. A fierce fight broke out in the court.

When Lai Luozhi's sister attempted to assassinate the Grand Empress Dowager, Shen Du immediately stepped in to protect her, eliminating the traitors. Lai Luozhi, despite being a ruthless person, was deeply saddened when he saw his sister injured, but he still chose to end her suffering. Outside the hall, Prince Xian followed Shen Du's instructions, sending a secret letter to General Zhenyuan ahead of time, saving Da Cangyu from peril.

Jiang Langxing, having coordinated with Shen Du, also seized the right moment to uproot the strongholds of the Fire Moth sect. Jingnei Guard, following Shen Du's orders, cooperated with the Liang family, using their expertise in crossbow-making to successfully wipe out the rebels in the city. Now, Lai Luozhi's cause was lost. Lai Luozhi publicly revealed his true identity, claiming that he was the rightful heir, the true prince deserving of the throne.

Yan Xing had infiltrated the ranks of the envoys and entered the court just in time to present the second half of the prophecy left by the National Teacher, which cast doubt on Lai Luozhi. However, lacking evidence, the National Teacher had only written the prophecy to warn future generations. He had realized that Lai Luozhi was watching him, so he had embroidered the prophecy onto a piece of cloth and sent it out at the first opportunity.

Unfortunately, he was killed before he could fully reveal the truth. A seamstress, who couldn’t read, found the cloth and kept it only because she liked the fabric. Yan Xing told Lai Luozhi that he was not the son of the late Emperor but the result of an affair between Noble Consort Shu and General Kongshan, her first love. Back then, Noble Consort Shu had been forced by her father to marry the late Emperor.

Her father had killed General Kongshan, threatening that if she refused to marry, the Kongshan family would be wiped out. Helpless, she complied. She bribed an attendant to evade the examinations, thus preserving her only bloodline with General Kongshan. In the end, Lai Luozhi met his fate, throwing himself onto a soldier’s spear, coughing up blood as he died. After dealing with Lai Luozhi’s faction of rebels, Shen Du was finally able to seek justice for his father.

Holding the evidence that could shake the entire court, Shen Du requested an audience with the Grand Empress Dowager. Over the years, he had witnessed her tireless efforts for the sake of Da Cang, and he believed she would make a just decision. True to his expectations, in the court, after learning the full story, the Grand Empress Dowager discovered that Prime Minister Zhang and Prince Xian had secretly conspired to frame loyal officials.

Years ago, Shen Du’s father, Minister Shen, had been in charge of the granary. Unbeknownst to him, someone had already sold the grain. To protect his students, Prime Minister Zhang had someone forge a letter in Minister Shen’s handwriting, accusing him of treason. This letter was then presented to the late Emperor, leading to the wrongful deaths of the Shen family. The Grand Empress Dowager also knew that Prime Minister Zhang had been protecting one person—her own nephew.

Before Minister Shen took over the granary, the official in charge had been her nephew, Zhou Miao. The Grand Empress Dowager showed no mercy, ordering that all officials involved from the Zhou family be punished more severely. When asked how Prince Xian thought Prime Minister Zhang should be dealt with, he requested that his mother handle Zhang according to the law, but that the Zhang family’s past merits be considered when determining their punishment.
