Derailment Episode 20 Recap
> Derailment Recap
The hair salon closed down, and Qi Lian couldn't stay here anymore. While blow-drying Qi Lian's hair, Jiang Xiaoyuan made plans to return here after the college entrance exam. She intended to tell Qi Lian the answer to the question of whether their relationship would affect the college entrance exam. With the exam approaching, villagers came to demand payment, and Grandma gave Jiang Xiaoyuan the last bit of money, instructing her to go back to school and not return. This money was meant for her to attend college. Jiang Xiaoyuan left home, and Qi Lian arrived just in time to pick her up.
Recalling from his memories, Qi Lian received a call from Jiang Grandma, who said that Jiang Xiaoyuan had gone missing and didn't go to the village secretary. They searched for a long time but couldn't find her. Qi Lian suddenly remembered the closed hair salon, where he and Jiang Xiaoyuan used to hide. It became their secret hideout, and now they both needed it.
Qi Lian found the closed hair salon, and as expected, Jiang Xiaoyuan was hiding there, muttering to herself, "I am not her." Jiang Xiaoyuan's emotions were unusually agitated; she wasn't the same Jiang Xiaoyuan, so why could he see her memories? Qi Lian patiently comforted Jiang Xiaoyuan until her emotions were barely stabilized.
Jiang Xiaoyuan spent the night in the hair salon, and upon waking up, she noticed a box in the corner. Qi Lian took it out for her, and inside was a contract with Mingguang Laboratory and Jiang Xiaoyuan as the first and second parties, respectively. Qi Lian reluctantly shared information about Mingguang Laboratory with Jiang Xiaoyuan. It seemed that Jiang Xiaoyuan, Huo Baiyu, and Xu Jingyang might have participated in an experiment that led to their current state. The contract was dated May 2018, but Mingguang Laboratory had closed six years ago. What hidden truths lay behind this?
Qi Lian took Jiang Xiaoyuan back home, where Jiang Grandma anxiously checked her for injuries. Qi Lian called his father, and they went together to pay respects to Qi Lian's mother. Qi Lian's relationship with his father was strained because he had abandoned them. Now, Qi Lian's father wanted to mend their relationship, but Qi Lian couldn't let go of the past.
Curious about what Qi Lian could be busy with during the Chinese New Year, Jiang Xiaoyuan's grandmother revealed that Qi Lian's family was once wealthy but had faced setbacks. His father, however, had established a large company in the city. Jiang Xiaoyuan decided to visit the school, hoping for new discoveries. Unable to enter the locked school, she considered climbing over the wall. Suddenly, she saw a scene from the past where she and Qi Lian, wearing school uniforms, climbed over the wall together. Jiang Xiaoyuan turned around and found Qi Lian right behind her, slowly overlapping with the Qi Lian in school uniform. Stubbornly, she decided to climb over the wall but ended up, as before, succeeding with Qi Lian's help. Everything in the school felt unfamiliar yet incredibly familiar to Jiang Xiaoyuan. However, there were no traces of her, considering how many years had passed and people had come and gone.
Qi Lian suddenly remembered burying a time capsule with the entire class ten years ago, and they dug it out from under a tree. Jiang Xiaoyuan's letter expressed expectations for the next ten years, but the subsequent letter was addressed to her eighteen-year-old self. She mentioned her inability to fulfill her dreams due to her grandmother's illness and the financial difficulties. Jiang Xiaoyuan was on the verge of collapse, recalling the time when she talked to her father about learning to draw, only to face his silence. She had a dream from that time where she could learn to draw and study abroad, but it seemed impossible in this lifetime. This letter was written the day before Jiang Xiaoyuan signed the contract, and she came back home for it.
