Gan Yang mustered up his courage and eagerly invited Ding Zhitong to go running together. Ding Zhitong looked at him in surprise and declined with the excuse that she was too busy with work to have time for jogging. Gan Yang told Wang Yi about the incident, and Wang Yi couldn't help bursting into laughter, teasing Gan Yang for his unusual way of expressing his feelings—no wonder he got rejected.

Still, he was happy that it was Gan Yang's first time being turned down. Gan Yang kept imagining what it would be like to run side by side with Ding Zhitong under the morning glow, sharing laughter on a sunlit path. A smile unknowingly crept onto his face. Seeing the pile of medicines in Gan Yang’s hands, Ding Zhitong was deeply moved. Just then, it was time for Ding Zhitong’s interview. To help her feel better, Gan Yang pretended to be in a rush and asked to cut in line for the interview. Once he got permission, he helped Ding Zhitong interview early so she could have time to recover.

Feng Sheng, meanwhile, privately asked someone he knew to find out if Gan Yang had gotten in through connections, only to learn that Gan Yang had passed with excellent results just like Ding Zhitong. After taking the medicine and resting, Ding Zhitong’s condition improved and she confidently entered the interview room. Things went smoothly at first, but perhaps due to excessive nerves, she suddenly fainted during the process. Gan Yang, extremely worried, carefully brought her back to school.

He wanted to take her back to her dorm to rest, but Ding Zhitong politely refused and sincerely thanked him for his help. That night, Feng Sheng brought Ding Zhitong some medicine, but from Song Mingmei, he learned that Gan Yang had already checked on her first. On the other side, Gan Yang clutched his phone, waiting anxiously for a message from Ding Zhitong.

In the middle of the night, she woke up and replied, making Gan Yang overjoyed—especially since they had agreed to meet the next day. He was so excited he couldn’t sleep. Song Mingmei, gossiping, asked how Gan Yang carried her when she fainted and teased that Ding Zhitong should look at the food in front of her, weigh herself, and regret not having lost weight earlier.

The next day, Gan Yang dressed up and arrived early at the girls’ dormitory to wait for Ding Zhitong. At that moment, Director Hu stormed over and harshly reprimanded Gan Yang, questioning why he had asked off-topic questions during the interview the day before. Only then did Gan Yang realize it was those questions that had caused him to fail the interview.

Ding Zhitong guessed he had done it on purpose to buy time for her to recover and felt even more warmth toward him. Ding Zhitong specifically invited Gan Yang to a meal at a restaurant. Somewhat embarrassed, she explained that she didn’t have enough money for a hospital visit or eating out and hoped for his understanding. Song Mingmei rushed into the classroom just as the bell rang and noticed that Teacher Qin Chang was on the summit attendance list.

That evening, she treated her roommates to hotpot, hoping they could give her ideas on how to convince Qin Chang to let her attend the summit with him. Back at the dorm, a photo of Ding Zhitong dining with Gan Yang spread like wildfire on the campus network. Some even maliciously slandered her.

Her roommates demanded an explanation, so Ding Zhitong clarified that they had only met during the interview and that she and Gan Yang were from completely different worlds. This interview was crucial to her, but perhaps for Gan Yang, it was just a casual experience. Her roommates saw how serious she was and quickly said they were just joking.

In the restroom, Ding Zhitong stared at herself in the mirror, constantly reminding herself not to forget her original goal—this wasn’t about falling in love. After seeing the post, Gan Yang immediately had the poster take it down, knowing it was his presence that had brought her trouble. Ding Zhitong received a voice message from him and hurriedly put on her earphones to avoid her roommates hearing.

In the message, Gan Yang apologized and said he didn’t want her to be hurt because of him. Ding Zhitong replied with a thank you. While on a business trip in Hong Kong, Gan Yang remembered that Ding Zhitong admired a famous landmark there. He took photos and sent them to her. Ding Zhitong gently touched the image, and when Gan Yang called via video, she instinctively tidied her hair before answering.

He told her he had already made a wish for her at the bronze bull, hoping she would pass her interview smoothly. Ding Zhitong thanked him and joked that she would touch the bronze bull through the screen after hanging up. But after the call ended, she enlarged the photo and gently stroked Gan Yang’s face, encouraging herself to become truly wealthy and surpass him.

On the bus, Ding Zhitong folded a paper crane, a smile playing at her lips, as if thinking about Gan Yang in the distance. Meanwhile, Gan Yang continued his routine of jogging and designing shoes. Whenever Ding Zhitong felt down, she would ride the bus to clear her mind—so often that even the driver recognized her. Today was no different, except that she received a letter from Gan Yang, asking where she was.
