After Gu Yanzhi saved Song Ranran, he encountered Yan Mo, feeling a sense of familiarity. When he wanted to confirm Yan Mo's identity, she had already disappeared. Yan Mo realized that Gu Yanzhi no longer had feelings for her and was moving forward following history. She thought she could accept it, but the pain in her heart was unexpected. Saddened, Yan Mo rode her bike back, but unexpectedly, she was hit by Lao Sui's car on the way. Lao Sui, concerned about Yan Mo's condition, discovered it was her and was scolded by Yan Mo for ruining her life, accusing him of being a piece of shit.
Song Ranran, delighted to meet Gu Yanzhi again, confirmed that he was the person she encountered in her childhood, filled with beautiful fantasies of meeting a prince charming. So, she continued working at the fried chicken shop. Lao Sui went to the research institute and encountered Yan Mo distributing flyers. He was attracted to her and tried to greet her to get to know her. Yan Mo, not interested in Lao Sui, avoided him, but he snatched a flyer and went to the institute to find Gu Yanzhi, inviting them to eat fried chicken together.
Gu Yanzhi found Lao Sui's arrangement strange but went along, and Yan Mo, fearing being recognized by Gu Yanzhi, carefully avoided him. Lao Sui, wanting to get close to Yan Mo, arranged an afternoon tea at the institute and gave them an access card. Yan Mo was tasked with delivering the tea. Yan Mo, not wanting to meet Gu Yanzhi and Lao Sui, accidentally burned her hand. Lao Sui, upon seeing this, went to buy medicine. After buying medicine, Lao Sui returned, but company directors urged him to attend a meeting. He left Gu Yanzhi behind to take care of Yan Mo. Lao Sui's asthma acted up due to stress during the meeting, but Yan Mo, arriving with fried chicken, provided timely help.
Yan Mo inquired about Lao Sui's situation, learning about the pressure from the directors. She understood that Lao Sui wasn't entirely a deceiver but was forced to do things against Gu Yanzhi. Yan Mo reminded Lao Sui not to harm those around him due to momentary pressure. She feared a repeat of the incident when Gu Yanzhi had problems due to the halted experiment. Hence, she wanted to prevent this from happening again. When Yan Mo went back to find Lao Sui, she overheard him pressuring Gu Yanzhi to compromise. Angry, she scolded Lao Sui and took Gu Yanzhi away. Lao Sui, affected by Yan Mo's words, became conflicted.
Gu Yanzhi visited Lao Sui again, discussing their graduation thesis from university. In the past, Lao Sui had manipulated data to complete the experiment, but Gu Yanzhi disagreed with this approach. Gu Yanzhi demanded an apology and clarification from Lao Sui, who hesitated. To make a decision, Lao Sui flipped a coin twice, hoping he would make the right choice, just like in the past.
