Shang Bieli slowly woke up to find Tong Saier, Yan Nanxing, Jiang Xinbai, and Nan Jifeng all present. He learned that his nose had been repaired but was furious. He glanced around, unable to scold anyone, and finally directed his anger at Jiang Xinbai. Clutching his mask, Shang Bieli refused to let go. Nan Jifeng told him that Gaya also hoped he would pull himself together; they all wanted Shang Bieli to look forward.

Outside his room, Tong Saier silently prayed, knowing he was a great hero and that she would stay by his side no matter what. Shang Bieli stayed awake all night and, early the next morning, asked Tong Saier to accompany him to the outskirts, where he buried the mask as a tribute to Gaya. He vowed never to return and to look ahead.

Jiang Suoluo encountered Liu Ruoqian sweeping the grounds and immediately assumed he was deliberately following her, becoming instantly angry. Liu Ruoqian, however, remained calm and showed her his scholar’s robe from the Hanlin Academy, explaining that he belonged there. He wasn't trying to curry favor but had only discovered she was the Dean of the Hanlin Academy when she fainted. He considered her a friend.

Jiang Suoluo responded that she needed friends who would stand by her side no matter what, regardless of their status. Yan Biqing, seeing Liu Ruoqian slacking off while cleaning, disdainfully drove him away, as Liu Ruoqian, being of servant status, couldn’t take the imperial exams and was assigned menial tasks. Yan Biqing looked down on him, but Jiang Suoluo defended him, saying a teacher shouldn't insult a student like that.

Liu Ruoqian, having heard such words all his life, remained calm. Jiang Suoluo decided to pay Liu Ruoqian a salary, specifically instructing that it wasn’t from her. Though Shang Bieli’s nose was repaired, his sense of smell hadn’t returned. To thank Yan Nanxing, he agreed to help her find her little brother. Jiang Suoluo met Liu Ruoqian on the street and apologized to him, and he gratefully acknowledged her help in raising his salary.

Yan Nanxing, worried that Jiang Xinbai hadn’t returned home late at night, donned a mask and went to the police station to find him, remembering to apply his medicine. Jiang Xinbai felt it was odd to change his bandages there, but Yan Nanxing blew out the candle and told him to undress. Jiang Xinbai refused again. Yan Nanxing, having brought medicine, made him drink it despite his aversion to the taste.

Finally, he drank it while pinching his nose, and Yan Nanxing immediately gave him a candied fruit. Yan Nanxing asked Jiang Xinbai why he came to rescue her, wondering what if Li Wufang had deceived him. Jiang Xinbai admitted he couldn’t take the risk. Years ago, when his father was investigating the Zornia herb, a crucial witness was killed due to his negligence. That witness had the same surname as them.

Though Yan Nanxing had no relation to him or the Zornia herb, Jiang Xinbai couldn’t bear the thought of losing her. As they planned to go home, they discovered the police station’s door was locked and had to spend the night there. In the darkness, Yan Nanxing spoke again, saying she knew Jiang Xinbai wanted to protect her, but she wanted to face everything together with him. Jiang Xinbai, however, had already fallen asleep.

Yan Nanxing felt a pang of heartache, thinking he must be very tired after all his struggles. She looked at Jiang Xinbai’s face, feeling very satisfied, then hugged his arm and fell asleep on his shoulder, while Jiang Xinbai, pretending to sleep, quietly smiled. Early the next morning, Jiang Zhiyi, worried about Jiang Xinbai, rushed to the police station.

As soon as it opened, Jiang Xinbai and Yan Nanxing, who had just woken up, were spotted by a crowd and Jiang Zhiyi. Under everyone’s gaze, Jiang Xinbai tightly held Yan Nanxing’s hand. Jiang Zhiyi nearly fainted from anger and demanded a private talk with Yan Nanxing. Jiang Zhiyi tried to name her price, but Yan Nanxing was so infuriated that she couldn’t speak.

They ended up in a fierce argument, pulling each other’s hair, and Jiang Xinbai and Yan Qingyun had to step in to break them apart. Despite having been worried about Yan Nanxing all this time, Jiang Zhiyi was angered by her words. Yan Qingyun advised her to reopen Hua Xiangrong, and Jiang Zhiyi agreed but vowed never to let Yan Nanxing become her daughter-in-law, determined to be a wicked mother-in-law.

Jiang Xinbai brought Yan Nanxing her favorite food as she hadn’t eaten all day. Jiang Xinbai analyzed the situation, noting that if the matter spread, the Yuejiang Prince's residence would surely protect Yan Nanxing, so he wouldn't need to worry. He presented Yan Nanxing with the deed to Hua Xiangrong, ensuring that no one could evict her again. Yet, Yan Nanxing was still unhappy.

Jiang Xinbai then handed her the deed to her own residence, leaving Yan Nanxing speechless for a moment before she angrily declared she would move out the next day.
