Pop Stars of Humble Origin Shamed to Admit Their Genealogy Except Wang O

There is a saying in Chinese “Heroes do not care about their origin”, for example, Zhu Yuanzhang the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the most powerful administration of Han people so far, was a beggar.

But in China’s pop culture, things are different today. For example, a number of comdedians born in Northeast China do not like to be recoganized as native people in that little villages or towns they were born in. They either keep silent or choose a nearby big city as their home.

Wang O, a very good actress with excellent self-taught performing skills, is different. She is from Nanning, capital city of south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and she is never shy to tell others she was born there. When there is chance, she will speak favorable words for her home town, a second tier city which is in the shadow of neighboring big cities like Guangzhou, Changsha, Kunming, and even Guilin, the world famous tourist city and a fellow city of Guangxi.

There are other figures of the same power in China’s pop business who are from Nanning too, but they do not like to be known as a native of that city. They are singer Wang Xiaomin(who sing beautiful Cantonese songs and was the rumored girlfriend of singer Hua Chenyu), singer Hu Xia (who has a very good voice and won the champion in Taiwan’s Star Light Road), singer Zhao Fangjing (who is the leading singer of Interesting Music Production, and whose songs about the traditional agricultural holidays of China are very popular)
