Lu Xingyan took Shen Xingruo home, and all he could do now was stay by her side. Worried about her health, he went to make food for her so that she could eat whenever she wanted. As Shen Xingruo looked at the messages left by her father, she couldn’t hold back her tears. She took out the notebook her father had given her, with a cover that featured a portrait he had drawn of her.

Her father had secretly slipped the notebook into her luggage when she moved to Lu Xingyan's house. One corner of the notebook was burnt—it had happened the night Lu Xingyan first saw Shen Xingruo playing with a lighter in her room. Thanks to Lu Xingyan’s arrival, the notebook had survived. Shen Xingruo had never talked to Lu Xingyan about her father.

Her father was a famous painter, which meant their family was well off financially, and her mother was a renowned pianist. However, after getting married, her mother never played the piano again. Shen Xingruo had always believed they were a happy family, unaware that cracks had already formed in her parents' relationship, though they never showed it in front of her. After Shen Xingruo’s mother passed away, her world collapsed.

What she couldn’t accept the most was that her father had quickly started a relationship with her homeroom teacher, Ms. Fang, right after her mother’s death. Shen Xingruo eventually moved to Lu Xingyan’s house and stopped contacting her father. She refused to take her father’s money and supported herself by working part-time jobs. Later, while working at a convenience store, she ran into her father and said some very harsh words. She told him to stay out of her life.

Now, Shen Xingruo feels deeply remorseful. If she had known that would be the last time they spoke, she would never have said such things to him. Lu Xingyan conveyed Shen Xingruo’s father’s final wishes to her. He suggested that if she had any regrets, she could speak as a eulogist at the farewell ceremony and say everything she wanted to say. After hearing this, Shen Xingruo decided to give the eulogy.

However, just after she finished her speech at the ceremony, her father suddenly appeared—alive and standing right in front of her. It turned out that Mr. Shen had staged the entire farewell ceremony. He wanted to know what people would say about him after his death, and he was deeply moved by what his daughter had just said. He acknowledged that the bond between them as father and daughter could never be broken. Mr.

Shen thanked his daughter for letting go of her past grievances and also expressed gratitude to Lu Xingyan for organizing every detail of the farewell ceremony. Shen Xingruo was furious. She had never expected this to be a deception orchestrated by her father, with Lu Xingyan involved in the plot. She couldn’t accept it and glared at Lu Xingyan, who avoided her gaze, too guilty to meet her eyes. Shen Xingruo stormed off, only to be stopped by her father midway.

To her surprise, Ms. Fang showed up as well. It turned out that during Mr. Shen’s illness, Ms. Fang had been running around caring for him. She hadn’t expected that, after just half a year abroad, he would have found someone new. Ms. Fang felt deeply wronged—she had lost her job because of Mr. Shen and, in the end, only received a broken marriage in return. Ms. Fang and Mr.

Shen’s current girlfriend ended up getting into a physical altercation on the spot. Not wanting to witness the scene, Shen Xingruo turned and left, but before she could get far, a microphone was thrown and hit her, causing her to faint and be rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, she was not seriously injured. Lu Xingyan apologized to Shen Xingruo, explaining that he had only learned on the morning of the farewell ceremony that her father was still alive.

He had intended to tell her, but by the time she took the stage to deliver her speech, it was too late to say anything. Shen Xingruo couldn’t forgive her father, because, in her heart, he was the one responsible for her mother’s death.
