Grandma's New World Synopsis

Five years ago, grandmother suddenly left home to seek a broader world and to find and recreate a new life for herself.

Five years later, her family unexpectedly received news from her, and her granddaughter, Dou Qi, along with her grandmother's twin sister, embarked on a journey to find her.

As they searched, they listened to the grandmother's stories and gained insights into everything she had experienced. These stories made them realize the deep energy buried within their grandmother, which sometimes surprised them and sometimes made them contemplate.

They also explored their own hearts and reacquainted themselves with who they were. With every step they took, their understanding of the grandmother became more complete, like a puzzle coming together.

Thirty years ago, Grandma Sun Yuping had a happy family of three, but everything was shattered by a sudden car accident. Grandma Sun Yuping had always been a quiet and submissive person since she was young, and her docile and timid personality made her accustomed to obedience. After Grandpa passed away, Grandma Sun Yuping's life changed completely. She moved with her daughter Dou Xiaojing and resigned from the factory to sell fried stinky tofu at a stall. Grandma Sun Yuping would rather suffer herself than let her daughter be wronged. However, Dou Xiaojing never became successful and after graduation, she relied on connections and became a ticket seller at a cinema.

The phone call came from a girl named Liao Xiangmei from Lian City Prison. For the past three years, she had been desperately trying to find out where grandma (Sun Yuping) was. When she was 18 years old, Liao Xiangmei went to the city to work with her friend He Huan. While working at a restaurant, Liao Xiangmei accidentally found a pair of earrings and, being greedy, decided to keep them. Liao Xiangmei confessed her guilt to He Huan. They both worked part-time jobs together to save up enough money to buy a new pair of earrings to compensate the customer. However, they were still fired from their jobs because of what happened.

According to the address provided in the letter sent by Grandma Sun Yuping, Grandma Sun Yulan and Dou Qi found the "Beautiful Coffee Shop". The female owner of the coffee shop is named Zhu Meihong, and she is a disabled person. Zhu Meihong first met Grandma Sun Yuping at a pet hospital. Grandma Sun Yuping rescued a little kitten and brought it to the pet hospital, where Zhu Meihong kindly adopted it. Grateful to Grandma Sun Yuping, she brought milk powder to the coffee shop to see the kitten, but happened to catch Zhu Meihong's employee quitting due to a family emergency.

They came to an office building in the city where Grandma had worked as a cleaner in an animation company. The general manager told them that Grandma had gotten along well with a girl named Yang Liu, who was a talented original artist in the company. Yang Liu's boss was an animation director named Zhou Shengjie, who was somewhat famous in the animation industry and highly valued by the company's management.

Great-aunt and Dou Qi both admire and feel sorry for Grandma. They followed the clues in her diary and found a boy named Yuan Hui. Four years ago, Grandma had her arm broken because she was mistaken for a child trafficker while trying to help a lost child find their parents. She shared a hospital room with Yuan Hui who also had a broken bone. Yuan Hui was not a good student and was playful and active. Even in the hospital, his teachers still came to complain about him.
