The Glory Episode 14 Recap
> The Glory Recap
After Zhuang Hanyan carried Wu Youzhi's corpse to the execution ground and saved the Zhuang family, she fell into a coma for several days. When she woke up, she learned that the Zhuang family had been vindicated. However, her mother had refused to eat ever since returning from the execution ground, completely disheartened. All her years of planning had been ruined by her own daughter.
Feeling heartbroken for her mother, Zhuang Hanyan went to visit her, but Ruan Xiwen refused to see her and drove her away. Madam Chen did not want the mother and daughter to grow apart, so she pulled Zhuang Hanyan aside and privately told her that when Ruan Xiwen first married into the Zhuang family, she had experienced a brief period of happiness. However, everything changed when she gave birth.
A Daoist priest came to perform a ritual for the elderly master of the house, but the master passed away, and the priest blamed it all on the newborn Zhuang Hanyan, claiming she was the reincarnation of a barefoot ghost. To protect her daughter, Ruan Xiwen pleaded with the matriarch, but the matriarch remained indifferent. Later, as the legal wife, Ruan Xiwen knelt before Zhou Ruyin to beg for mercy, willing to trade everything she had for her daughter’s safety.
However, no one in the Zhuang household stepped up to protect them, not even the weak and incompetent Zhuang Shiyang, who blindly believed the Daoist and wanted to kill his own newborn daughter. With no other options, Ruan Xiwen pretended to be possessed by a vengeful ghost to shield her daughter, but she was brutally beaten and had both legs broken. From then on, Zhuang Hanyan was sent away to the countryside in Danzhou.
After hearing this, Zhuang Hanyan rushed to her mother’s side, looking at her crippled, scarred legs with deep remorse, feeling that she had hurt her mother deeply. The mother and daughter embraced and wept bitterly. Ruan Xiwen revealed that the downfall of the Ruan family and her marriage into the Zhuang family were all orchestrated by Zhuang Shiyang. She had spent years plotting revenge, but now she no longer had the chance.
Zhuang Hanyan apologized to her mother and begged for a chance to stay by her side and help her exact revenge so that they would never be separated again. At this moment, Ruan Xiwen finally forgave her daughter and held her tightly. Zhuang Hanyan was summoned to the Court of Judicial Review, where the case involving Pei Dafu’s rebel faction had been transferred to a new official. The official questioned her about how she had discovered Wu Youzhi’s corpse.
Not wanting to implicate Fu Yunxi, she lied and said she stumbled upon it while tracking an internal traitor, managing to gloss over the matter with just a few words. Afterward, Fu Yunxi warned Zhuang Hanyan that the Court of Judicial Review would not be easily fooled by her brief explanation and advised her to be cautious. Zhuang Hanyan and her father went to the ancestral hall.
Though she had saved the Zhuang family and deserved credit, her father showed no gratitude. Not only did he refuse to hold her coming-of-age ceremony, but he also made excuses about being too busy with official duties. Zhuang Hanyan then requested that her mother host the ceremony instead. A few days later, Ruan Xiwen personally held the ceremony for her daughter. As the legitimate daughter, Zhuang Hanyan was officially declared the heir to the household by Zhuang Shiyang.
At that moment, Noble Consort Miao sent a congratulatory gift from the palace. Unexpectedly, it turned out that Ruan Xiwen and Noble Consort Miao had been childhood friends, though they had rarely interacted after getting married. Yuwen Chang'an personally delivered a coming-of-age gift. Due to the Pei Dafu case and his failure to conduct a thorough investigation, he had been dismissed and sent back to his hometown. This visit was also a farewell.
Even now, he still harbored feelings for Ruan Xiwen, but time had passed, and the past was beyond reach. Fu Yunxi used the opportunity of delivering Zhuang Hanyan’s coming-of-age gift to visit the ancestral hall. He took out an incense stick, explaining that it was meant to suppress the souls of the dead. At that moment, Zhuang Hanyan recalled her mother’s words about how the family’s patriarch had died when she was born and started to believe Fu Yunxi’s claim.
Now dismissed from his position, Fu Yunxi remained suspicious that the Zhuang family harbored a dark secret and hoped to join forces with her to uncover evidence and bring down Zhuang Shiyang. When Zhuang Hanyan took over household management, she immediately transferred Tao Momo, Zhou Ruyin’s trusted servant, to her side.
Knowing that she had mistreated the legal wife in the past, Tao Momo realized she had no good fate awaiting her, so she pleaded with Zhou Ruyin to keep her. However, as a mere concubine with no power, Zhou Ruyin gladly handed her over to Zhuang Hanyan.
Later, Zhou Ruyin had her children personally deliver a cherished ginseng root she had kept for years as a gift to Zhuang Hanyan, instructing them to curry favor with her, as she was now the head of the household. But Zhuang Yushan was unconvinced and instead plotted revenge against Zhuang Hanyan. Zhuang Hanyan received an invitation, noticing that it required both mother and daughter to attend.
She suspected it was a trap meant to humiliate them, but she also saw it as an opportunity. That night, she and Fu Yunxi discussed how best to turn the banquet to their advantage.
