> The Glory Recap

Seventeen years ago, in the secluded residence, thunder and lightning raged. On this day, Wei Shi received news that Zhuang Hanliang had severely beaten Zhuang Shiyang. She intended to intervene, but upon arrival, she found Zhuang Hanliang lying lifeless in his room, blood oozing from his mouth. On the floor was a half-eaten pastry. In shock, Wei Shi glimpsed Zhuang Shiyang's figure passing by the window.

Frightened, she hid and watched as Zhuang Shiyang knelt before Zhuang Hanliang’s body, confessing his crime. However, he justified his actions, saying that his own survival was more important than his father’s. Since Zhuang Hanliang had offended Pei Dafu, death was inevitable. Wei Shi, hidden in the shadows, was eventually discovered by Zhuang Shiyang. He then brought her some food, pretending to be filial while actually testing her reaction.

Wei Shi ate heartily, feigning ignorance, and even suggested that Zhuang Shiyang should become the head of the family. Only then did he relent. Fu Yunxi and Zhuang Hanyan examined Zhuang Hanliang’s remains alongside the letter left behind by Yuwen Changan. The letter stated that Yuwen Changan had personally retrieved the bones from Zhuang Hanliang’s grave and had local officials authenticate the findings. The case involved Ruan Xiwen, who had long suspected Zhuang Shiyang's involvement.

She noticed that Wei Shi always avoided eating meals at home, preferring to find food elsewhere. This raised her suspicions, and she attempted to test Wei Shi three times without success. Zhuang Hanyan planned a fourth test on Wei Shi’s birthday. When Zhuang Hanyan returned, Zhuang Yushan was playing mahjong with some noblewomen.

Seeing Zhuang Hanyan, she deliberately made things difficult for her, forcing her to drink the leftover tea from Zhou Ruyin's cup, mocking her for always drinking others’ leftovers. Zhuang Hanyan refused and countered with her own sarcasm, insinuating that Zhuang Yushan enjoyed drinking tea tainted by multiple people's saliva—implying something about King Qi's character. Infuriated, Zhuang Yushan tried to strike her, but Fu Yunxi arrived in time to take Zhuang Hanyan away, ignoring Zhuang Yushan’s angry shouts.

Zhuang Hanyan visited Wei Shi and openly questioned her about Zhuang Hanliang’s death, suspecting she knew the truth. Wei Shi, having lived under her son’s roof all these years, refused to speak. Zhuang Hanyan promised to provide for her in old age, but Wei Shi still declined and instead begged to be left alone.

Zhuang Hanyan warned that if she continued to visit Wei Shi often, it would arouse Zhuang Shiyang’s suspicions, and he would not let Wei Shi off easily. She gave Wei Shi three days to decide whether to bring the true culprit to justice. Despite her words, Zhuang Hanyan remained unsure of Wei Shi’s decision. At that moment, a maid brought a box that Wei Shi had entrusted someone to deliver. Inside was a piece of water celery.

At first glance, it looked ordinary, but its roots were poisonous. Wei Shi recalled events from seventeen years ago as she examined the water celery. Just then, Zhuang Yushan entered, searching for a rabbit. Wei Shi helped her look, only to find the rabbit dead after eating the celery leaves. She lamented how her once timid son had turned so ruthless. Fu Yunxi led the authorities from the Court of Judicial Review to arrest Zhuang Shiyang and interrogate him.

He presented Zhuang Hanliang’s remains as evidence. Initially, Zhuang Shiyang tried to deny everything, but confronted with irrefutable proof, he shifted all blame onto Zhou Ruyin, claiming she was the true mastermind. Zhou Ruyin noticed something strange about the celery and went to discuss it with Zhuang Yushan, only to be intercepted by the Court of Judicial Review. Realizing the danger, she sent someone to summon Zhuang Yushan for help.

However, she never imagined that Zhuang Shiyang would betray her, pushing all responsibility onto her. Zhou Ruyin insisted that she had only hired the exorcist Master Duan back then, but her argument was full of loopholes. It became clear that Zhuang Shiyang had always planned to use her as a scapegoat. Master Duan was brought to the courtroom and confirmed that Zhuang Hanliang had indeed died from poisoning. He also claimed that Zhou Ruyin was the true mastermind.

At that moment, Zhuang Yushan arrived. Zhou Ruyin had hoped she would testify in her favor, as she had been present on the day of Zhuang Hanliang’s death and should have known what really happened. However, Zhuang Shiyang preemptively admitted fault, offering to take the blame for Zhou Ruyin. Unexpectedly, Zhuang Yushan turned against her, accusing her of poisoning the water celery. Zhuang Hanyan, watching from behind a screen, smirked—her plan had finally succeeded. Without lingering, she quietly left.

Zhuang Yushan continued accusing Zhou Ruyin, while Zhuang Shiyang pretended to defend her, urging Zhuang Yushan to stop speaking ill of their mother. Realizing she had been completely abandoned, Zhou Ruyin confessed to everything. However, Fu Yunxi stepped forward, pointing out inconsistencies in her confession and requesting a thorough reinvestigation, which the presiding official approved. Zhuang Yushan looked at Zhou Ruyin and remembered her childhood. Their father used to cook meals, but Zhuang Yushan never liked them.

However, Zhou Ruyin always told her they had to rely on Zhuang Shiyang to survive, so they had to eat everything he provided, even if they disliked it. Over time, Zhuang Yushan understood that only by pleasing Zhuang Shiyang could she obtain what she wanted. Realizing how futile everything had become, Zhou Ruyin watched as Zhuang Yushan helped Zhuang Shiyang up and walked away, leaving her mother kneeling on the ground, tears streaming down her face.
