Fu Yunxi's carriage continued forward but soon encountered a dispute blocking the road. Forced to take a detour through a back alley, he suddenly noticed the scent of sulfur powder from behind the curtain. Before he could react, someone set the sulfur powder on fire, and assassins hidden in the shadows began firing crossbows at his carriage. After a moment of eerie silence, the assassins surrounded the carriage.

One of them rushed inside, attempting to kill Fu Yunxi, but was swiftly kicked out. Fu Yunxi warned them to surrender if they valued their lives, but the assassins were determined to fight to the death. Just then, the Imperial Guards suddenly arrived, rescuing Fu Yunxi and capturing the assassins. They praised Fu Yunxi for his foresight in anticipating the ambush. Before setting out, Fu Yunxi had already entrusted a secret letter to Mu Feng, who delivered it to the Emperor.

In the letter, Fu Yunxi and the Emperor had agreed on a plan to lure out the mastermind behind the attacks and eliminate them all at once. The Imperial Guards were thus present to witness everything firsthand. As the assassins loyal to Prince Qi were taken away, one of them warned Fu Yunxi that while his strategies were flawless, his wife might not be so lucky.

Meanwhile, Zhuang Hanyan and Ah Zhi were on their way home when masked men blocked their path. Zhuang Hanyan instructed Ah Zhi to stay hidden in the carriage, but upon hearing the sound of arrows being drawn, Ah Zhi rushed out, urging Zhuang Hanyan to get back into the carriage. Concerned for Ah Zhi's safety, Zhuang Hanyan shielded her with her body. Fortunately, Mu Feng arrived in time with reinforcements, subduing the attackers.

Mounting a horse, Zhuang Hanyan instructed Mu Feng to escort Ah Zhi home while she hurried off to find Fu Yunxi, fearing for his life. As Zhuang Hanyan galloped anxiously, a group of black-clad riders pursued her, shooting down her horse. She was thrown to the ground, ready to face death, when Zhuang Yushan suddenly appeared on horseback. Lifting Zhuang Hanyan onto the saddle, she rode through a dense bamboo forest, making it difficult for their pursuers to follow.

Eventually, Zhuang Yushan managed to escape with Zhuang Hanyan. She brought Zhuang Hanyan to a side gate of the palace, where Zhuang Hanyan was surprised to see her. Zhuang Yushan casually remarked that she had returned simply because she wanted to, and it had nothing to do with Zhuang Hanyan. At the palace gates, Zhuang Hanyan asked the guards if they had seen Fu Yunxi enter.

Just then, Zhou Ruyin arrived, informing her that Fu Yunxi had already left the palace after confessing everything. He had asked Zhou Ruyin to wait there for Zhuang Hanyan and advised her to go home and await the final verdict, as he had laid out all evidence to ensure Zhuang Shiyang's conviction. Borrowing Zhuang Yushan’s horse, Zhuang Hanyan rode off to the Court of Judicial Review in search of Fu Yunxi.

This gave Zhou Ruyin the opportunity to speak with Zhuang Yushan. Seeing how weary and haggard she looked, Zhou Ruyin felt deep remorse and admitted she had been wrong. She never blamed Zhuang Yushan for identifying her in court. Noticing Zhou Ruyin's injured face, Zhuang Yushan felt a pang of distress, suspecting that Zhuang Shiyang was responsible.

Zhou Ruyin confessed that she had made mistakes from the very beginning, having been raised in a similar manner and thus not knowing how to properly guide her own child. It was too late for regret. She did not expect Zhuang Yushan to forgive her, but she vowed to rescue her from Prince Qi’s residence, even if it cost her life. Zhuang Yushan clung tightly to her mother.

Outside Zhuang Shiyang’s residence, an unusual group of people appeared, making him realize that something was amiss. Meanwhile, Zhuang Hanyan arrived at the Court of Judicial Review just in time to witness Prince Qi being dragged inside, furiously screaming that he would kill her. At the same time, Fu Yunxi led a search of the secluded residence, but Zhuang Shiyang had already fled through the back gate. Upon discovering this, the patrolling officers quickly gave chase.

Zhuang Shiyang smeared his face with dirt to disguise himself and took advantage of the dark, snowy night to escape. However, Fu Yunxi immediately ordered the city gates to be shut, forbidding anyone from entering or leaving. Following the fresh footprints in the snow, they soon cornered Zhuang Shiyang. Zhuang Shiyang pleaded for his life, but Fu Yunxi coldly reminded him that the moment he took his first step down this path, his fate was already sealed.

Zhuang Shiyang retorted that even if he died today, Fu Yunxi would not have long to live either. When Fu Yunxi turned around, he saw Zhuang Hanyan standing there, accusing him of deceiving her once again. She declared that from now on, whether he lived or died was none of her concern and that they were no longer connected in any way. Fu Yunxi rode past her without offering a word of comfort.

Despite enduring brutal torture, Zhuang Shiyang stubbornly maintained his innocence, merely stalling for time in hopes that Fu Yunxi would succumb to his poisoning before he could be executed. That night, Zhuang Hanyan, armed with Fu Yunxi’s stolen waist token, infiltrated the Court of Judicial Review alone. Using her intelligence and courage, she deceived the guards and snuck into the prison. She promised Zhuang Shiyang that if he handed over the antidote, she would help him escape.

Zhuang Shiyang agreed but demanded that she free him first. Covering him with her cloak, Zhuang Hanyan disguised him and smuggled him past the guards. Sensing something was wrong, Fu Yunxi quickly led a pursuit. Meanwhile, Zhuang Hanyan hid with Zhuang Shiyang, watching as Fu Yunxi’s horse passed by nearby. Holding his breath in fear, Zhuang Shiyang dared not make a sound.

Once Fu Yunxi and his men left, Zhuang Hanyan took Zhuang Shiyang to a hidden chamber within the Zhuang residence, believing that the most dangerous place was often the safest. Using the Zhuang family’s secret passage, she led him inside and demanded he write down the antidote’s formula. She warned him that if he refused, he would be locked in the chamber forever. Zhuang Hanyan reminded him that he had only two choices: cooperate or die.

Left with no alternative, Zhuang Shiyang decided to trust her one last time. Zhuang Hanyan swore that if she broke her promise after he provided the antidote, she would suffer a terrible fate. However, instead of writing it down immediately, Zhuang Shiyang insisted that she leave and return the next day. Zhuang Hanyan agreed and ordered Shu Hong, the maid guarding the door, to unlock it.

The moment the door opened, Zhuang Shiyang seized a dagger and lunged at Zhuang Hanyan. However, Zhuang Hanyan swiftly raised the firearm Fu Yunxi had gifted her and pointed it at Zhuang Shiyang’s head, reminding him that times had changed. After much struggle, she finally obtained the antidote and handed it over to Fu Yunxi. But before he could take it, he coughed up blood and collapsed.

As his consciousness faded, he only hoped that in this lifetime, he would not fail Zhuang Hanyan. Holding him tightly in her arms, Zhuang Hanyan cried out his name in desperation.
