Xu Qi'an’s unwavering loyalty to the Eldest Princess left Lin An feeling dissatisfied. To tarnish the Eldest Princess’s image in Xu Qi'an’s eyes, Lin An devised a plan. She instructed her maid to hire a few people who would "accidentally" pass by Xu Qi'an and gossip about the Eldest Princess, claiming she had poor character, questionable medical skills, and dubious morals.

In her room, Lin An secretly rejoiced, believing that once Xu Qi'an heard these rumors, he would surely be disappointed in the Eldest Princess. At that point, Lin An could reveal her true identity and potentially win him over. However, just two minutes later, her subordinates reported that Xu Qi'an had detained the gossiping troublemakers for interrogation. Lin An was shocked to discover how quickly Xu Qi'an had identified their lies.

Fortunately, he still didn’t realize she was the mastermind behind the scheme. Xu Qi'an claimed he had received credible information that the Second Princess was interested in recruiting him, but he firmly declared his eternal loyalty to the Eldest Princess, vowing never to serve another. Lin An, exasperated by his rambling, hurriedly dismissed him. After the Pingyuan Bo incident, Jiang Jinluo developed a strong impression of Xu Qi'an and insisted that the Spring Breeze Hall release him.

Jiang Lüzhong had even learned that Xu Qi'an was well-connected with the Directorate of Celestial Monitoring and planned to use this relationship to acquire more magical artifacts for future investigations. However, when Jiang Lüzhong sent people to Spring Breeze Hall to retrieve Xu Qi'an, Li Yuchun refused outright. Though he often found Xu Qi'an annoying, Li Yuchun recognized that everyone competing for Xu Qi'an meant he was a rare talent.

Jiang Lüzhong, furious over Li Yuchun’s refusal, personally went to Spring Breeze Hall. Hearing that someone was trying to poach Xu Qi'an, Yang Yan, unwilling to lose a valuable subordinate, also stepped in. The two Golden Gongs ended up fighting in front of a crowd, creating a spectacular scene. Many of the Copper Gongs had never witnessed Golden Gongs in combat, let alone top-tier masters facing off. The breathtaking battle left everyone, including Li Yuchun, in awe.

Xu Qi'an, meanwhile, was eating watermelon when he heard about the commotion and grew curious. Upon arriving at the scene, he saw that Yang Yan and Jiang Lüzhong were indeed evenly matched. Unable to resist, he asked what had sparked the duel. When he learned they were fighting over a highly talented subordinate—himself—he couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride. Shortly afterward, Wei Yuan summoned Xu Qi'an to ask for his decision.

On the way, Xu Qi'an analyzed the situation and concluded that it was best for Wei Yuan to make the choice on his behalf, avoiding offense to either side. To demonstrate his sincerity, Xu Qi'an even presented a poem he had written during his initial examination. In Xu Qi'an’s view, he could learn valuable lessons whether he worked under Yang Yan or Jiang Lüzhong.

When he returned to Spring Breeze Hall, his colleagues surrounded him, curious about his decision in front of Wei Yuan. Proudly, Xu Qi'an shared his strategy and eloquence, leaving everyone amazed at his high emotional and intellectual intelligence. Not long after, Li Yuchun summoned Xu Qi'an to his office. Assuming he was about to be reassigned, Xu Qi'an pretended to be deeply reluctant to leave, expressing that he saw Spring Breeze Hall as his family.

His heartfelt performance moved Li Yuchun. While Xu Qi'an continued his act, he speculated about his potential new position. However, when Li Yuchun handed him the official transfer order, Xu Qi'an’s smile disappeared. Wei Yuan had assigned him to serve under Li Yuchun’s command for the next three years, with strict instructions that he would not be transferred during this period. Realizing he was now stuck for the foreseeable future, Xu Qi'an felt utterly trapped.

Jiang Lüzhong couldn’t understand Wei Yuan’s decision, so Wei Yuan explained. Xu Qi'an acted based on his instincts, often disregarded rules, and had a sharp, flexible mind, making him difficult to manage. On the other hand, Li Yuchun was rigid, methodical, and adhered strictly to principles and boundaries. Under Li Yuchun’s mentorship, Wei Yuan believed Xu Qi'an could correct some of his shortcomings.
