The spirit dragon inexplicably threw a tantrum and nearly collided with Lin An's tribute beads, infuriating the emperor. He ordered the spirit dragon to be captured and returned to the pond. The emperor immediately declared a citywide curfew and instructed Wei Yuan to tighten security measures. Xu Qi'an returned home to find Xu Pingzhi and Xu Xinnian teasing him for serving two masters simultaneously, saying it was an impossible balancing act.

Xu Xinnian asked Xu Qi'an what he planned to do. Xu Qi'an replied that while Lin An was not particularly sharp, she was lively, innocent, and fiercely protective when it mattered most. On the other hand, the Eldest Princess was exceptionally intelligent, calculating, and bold. With the Eldest Princess as a powerful ally, there would be no worry about future promotions or wealth. Hearing this, Xu Pingzhi immediately began flattering Xu Qi'an, hoping to be recommended to the Eldest Princess.

Xu Qi'an ignored him and started practicing martial arts. At that moment, Xu Qi'an's jade mirror began signaling him. Member Four of the Heaven-Sealing Society wanted to privately discuss Hengyuan's whereabouts. The three members speculated whether Hengyuan had taken the magical artifact that could block auras. They decided to visit the residence of the Earl of Pingyuan together.

Upon arrival, they noticed that despite the recent confiscation of his property, the Earl’s residence was still bustling with music and dancing, as if nothing had changed. Soon, however, a mysterious figure wearing a bamboo hat appeared. This person, possessing exceptional martial skills, easily defeated the guards and killed the Earl's legitimate son. From the rooftop, Xu Qi'an and Heaven-Sealing Society Member Four watched in horror as the Earl’s heir was reduced to ashes.

Despite their combined efforts, they were no match for the mysterious figure. After executing his deadly blade technique, Xu Qi'an quickly signaled his companions to escape. When Xu Qi'an reported the incident to Wei Yuan, Wei Yuan showed him a portrait. The person in the drawing was Henghui—the one who had eloped with Princess Pingyang. Wei Yuan deduced that Henghui had likely stolen the magical artifact that blocked auras and was connected to the Sangbo case.

Lin An visited Princess Pingyang's mother, who still lived in the family residence, clinging to hope that her daughter might one day return. She offered Lin An pomegranates that Pingyang had once picked herself and reminisced about the past. Overwhelmed by her longing for Pingyang, Lin An lied to comfort her, claiming that Pingyang had gone to Persia, where the scenery was beautiful.

Pingyang’s mother immediately expressed a desire to visit Persia, saying she had nothing else to occupy her time. Lin An quickly made excuses, saying the journey was long and arduous, and by the time they arrived, Pingyang might have moved elsewhere. Meanwhile, the new case involving the Earl of Pingyuan added to a string of recent incidents that greatly displeased the emperor. He berated the ministers for being incompetent while continuing to collect their salaries.

Turning to Wei Yuan, the emperor demanded updates on the investigations. Wei Yuan cryptically stated that he could only report the details in private. The emperor dismissed the ministers, including Minister of War Zhang Feng, and held a private conversation with Wei Yuan behind closed doors. The dismissed ministers, already frustrated from being reprimanded, were further annoyed by being excluded. Each harbored their own suspicions. When Wei Yuan finally emerged, they eagerly questioned him.

Wei Yuan mysteriously claimed that the matter was of great importance and that the cases were nearly solved, with significant results expected in a few days. His casual remark, however, alarmed Zhang Feng, who returned home, hastily packed his valuables, and attempted to flee with his son. They were intercepted at the city gates. From a vantage point, Wei Yuan and Xu Qi'an enjoyed tea as they received the report of Zhang Feng’s capture.

Wei Yuan, satisfied, remarked that a guilty conscience always reveals itself. They could now use this opportunity to trace Henghui’s whereabouts. At that moment, Henghui appeared at the gates of Zhang Feng’s residence. Using his Absorbing Star Technique, he drained three people of their life force in an instant. However, as he entered the courtyard, he triggered a formation. Yang Qianhuan, a fourth-grade formation master from the Directorate of Celestials, revealed himself.

Henghui sneered, dismissing Yang’s abilities as insufficient to challenge him. Just as he prepared to attack, Jiang Jinluo, Yang Yan, and other top experts arrived, making it clear that a fierce battle was inevitable.
