Late at night, Xu Qi'an was plagued by another nightmare. It felt as though he had been struck by a mass of malevolent Qi and thrown into a deep pit, unable to move. Awakening from the nightmare, he poured himself a cup of water, only to discover traces of the same malevolent Qi in the water. This startled Xu Qi'an greatly. Suddenly, he found himself in a void. When he came to, he realized he was holding onto a monk.

The monk had a gentle expression and seemed vaguely familiar, though Xu Qi'an couldn't recall where he had seen him before. The monk claimed he didn’t know his true identity but explained that someone had brought him here, hoping to use Xu Qi'an's body to nurture a severed arm. Shocked, Xu Qi'an refused to become a vessel for anyone. However, the monk introduced himself as Shen Shu and assured Xu Qi'an that he was highly skilled in magic.

He promised that living within Xu Qi'an's body would cause no harm and even suggested that Xu Qi'an would benefit greatly, becoming the most powerful gold gong. After careful consideration, Xu Qi'an, seeing no immediate harm, agreed to Shen Shu’s request. Now that Shen Shu had integrated into Xu Qi'an's body, he could sense Xu Qi'an's every thought.

Sometimes, Xu Qi'an suspected something foreign had entered his body and considered consulting Wei Yuan or the Chief Diviner of the Directorate of Celestials. However, Shen Shu advised him to "keep this secret," prompting Xu Qi'an to hold his tongue. When Xu Qi'an met Wei Yuan again, he tried to inquire about the shadowy figure he had seen in his dream behind Wei Yuan. Yet Wei Yuan remained tight-lipped, refusing to divulge any information.

Realizing it was futile, Xu Qi'an abandoned the idea of pressing further. Leaving Wei Yuan's residence, he stumbled upon a pouch filled with gold coins—a windfall requiring no effort at all. Xu Pingzhi, assigned to recover a lost pouch, inadvertently returned to their old home. Hearing someone sobbing inside, he suspected the house had been burgled and entered with his knife drawn. To his surprise, he found his son, Xu Xinnian.

It turned out no one had informed Xu Xinnian about the family's move to a new house. Upon hearing rumors that Xu Qi'an had died in the line of duty, Xu Xinnian had been devastated and rushed home from White Deer Academy without any travel funds. Exhausted from the journey, he finally arrived. Seeing Xu Qi'an alive and well, Xu Xinnian burst into tears of joy. After exchanging pleasantries, Xu Xinnian mentioned he wanted to rest in his room.

Xu Pingzhi suddenly realized that, amidst the chaos surrounding Xu Qi'an’s situation, they had completely forgotten to prepare Xu Xinnian’s room. Xu Qi'an expected Xu Xinnian to be upset, but to his surprise, Xu Xinnian didn’t mind. Instead, with reddened eyes, he kept staring at Xu Qi'an and remarked how fortunate the family was to have him. Meanwhile, Li Miaozhen arrived in the capital with her enchantress companion.

The enchantress attempted to use seduction techniques on Xu Qi'an, but he was entirely unaffected. On the contrary, Xu Qi'an managed to extract valuable information about Li Miaozhen from her. Li Miaozhen explained that her purpose for coming was to seek Xu Qi'an’s help in solving a case. She then shared a memory of hers with him. While traveling through a remote mountain, she and her companion discovered a severely injured man.

The man, skilled in archery, delivered a cryptic message before his death: “The blood massacre stretches three thousand miles. ” Could it be that the Northern King was planning a rebellion? Li Miaozhen couldn’t make sense of the situation and sought Xu Qi'an’s assistance to unravel the mystery.
