Xu Qi'an was alarmed upon hearing the phrase “the blood massacre stretches three thousand miles. ” If it were true that the Northern King was rebelling, it would be a grave matter. Without delay, he hurried to report to Wei Yuan. Although Wei Yuan had spies deployed across the southern and eastern regions, there had been no recent news from the north.

To ensure everything was handled properly, Wei Yuan decided to personally escort the witness to the palace and report to the Emperor. In the court, the officials debated fiercely upon hearing the suggestion to transport large quantities of grain to the Northern Territories, which were thousands of miles away. The Emperor ultimately agreed to dispatch officials to the Northern Territories to conduct a thorough investigation. Li Miaozhen personally went to the Xu family residence, where she learned that Xu Xinnian was at home. Mistakenly assuming that Xu Xinnian was a member of the Tian Di Society, she confronted him directly to seek answers. However, Xu Xinnian was clueless about the matter. At that moment, he was soaking in a bathtub.

Li Miaozhen, with her decisive and fearless personality, was a stark contrast to Xu Xinnian, a scholarly and pedantic student from Yunlu Academy. The two were on entirely different wavelengths. Caught off guard by the sudden intrusion, Xu Xinnian was so flustered that he called for help. Li Miaozhen bombarded him with questions, but his ignorance enraged her. In her frustration, she dragged him outside and hung him out the window.

When Xu Qi'an returned home, he found his uncle and younger sister eavesdropping at the door. Intrigued, he joined them, thinking Xu Xinnian might be experiencing a romantic awakening. Instead, he saw Xu Xinnian being kicked out the window by someone, standing in the courtyard shivering and exposed. Seeing Li Miaozhen, Xu Qi'an immediately understood the situation. It seemed his brother had become a scapegoat for him this time.

Li Miaozhen explained that her visit to the capital was to investigate a matter concerning Su Su’s father, who had been an official in the Ministry of Personnel. Years ago, Su Su's father disappeared after entering the capital, and Su Su was desperate to find his whereabouts. Xu Qi'an had previously promised Li Miaozhen that he would help her resolve a case in exchange for her assistance.

Now that she had come to collect on that promise, Xu Qi'an naturally had to reciprocate and help her uncover the truth. When Wei Yuan heard that Li Miaozhen had come to the capital, he felt her presence was inappropriate and instructed Xu Qi'an to send her away. Xu Qi'an explained Li Miaozhen's purpose, and Wei Yuan mentioned someone who could help her—Xu Xinnian. After being thrown into the courtyard by Li Miaozhen, Xu Xinnian fainted.

His father, Xu Pingzhi, had no choice but to carry his unconscious and exposed son to the medical clinic. Walking through two alleys with Xu Xinnian on his back, Xu Pingzhi caused quite a scene. Embarrassed beyond measure, Xu Xinnian refused to leave his room afterward. Xu Qi'an, half-doubting Wei Yuan’s plan, still trusted Wei Yuan's wisdom and decided to try it. He ran home to seek Xu Xinnian’s help.

Seeing how sincerely his elder brother pleaded, Xu Xinnian, thinking of someone who might assist, reluctantly agreed to try. Lin An, who had accompanied the Noble Consort on a family visit, was supposed to return within two weeks. However, due to taking the wrong route, the journey was extended by half a month.

The secret guards arranged by the Eldest Princess had been ordered not to reveal themselves, but when Lin An encountered danger, they disguised themselves as a merchant caravan to escort her back.
