The scorching sun blazed overhead, and not only was Xu Qi'an losing patience, but even Xu Xinnian was growing restless. He had already bought several slices of watermelon from a street vendor, eating so much that he felt stuffed, yet their contact still hadn't appeared. Finally, Xu Qi'an reminded him that the person might have moved houses, and the signal location could have changed. Realizing this, Xu Xinnian decided to release more Kongming lanterns that evening.

Lin An had already returned to the capital. Upon hearing about Xu Qi'an’s recent troubles and his sacrifices for the court, she hurried to the Xu family residence. Meanwhile, Li Miaozhen had an encounter with a group of rogue guards who refused to pay for their meals. Unable to tolerate such injustice, she punished them. During this, she met a kindred spirit—a man who carried a sword everywhere, seemingly dedicated to cultivating his swordsmanship.

Xu Xinnian and Xu Qi'an were releasing Kongming lanterns together when the door suddenly opened. Lin An entered and, seeing Xu Qi'an safe and sound before her, was overcome with emotion. She rushed to him and hugged him tightly. Sensing the situation, Xu Xinnian tactfully slipped away. At dawn, Lin An woke up to find herself lying in the arms of her maid, Gangzi. Could it be that the events of the previous night were just a dream?

She couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed. Gangzi explained that Xu Qi'an had personally escorted her home the previous night. At that time, Lin An had clung to him tightly, refusing to let go. In a moment of quick thinking, the maid disguised herself as Xu Qi'an, allowing Lin An to rest peacefully. The next morning, Xu Qi'an excitedly brought breakfast to Lin An, reminding Gangzi to ensure its freshness and that Lin An ate it quickly.

According to their plan, Lin An should have returned to the capital much later. However, when Xu Qi'an saw Lin An in her disheveled and weary state the night before, he couldn’t help but voice his curiosity. Unfortunately, Gangzi, lacking tact, gave a perfunctory response, saying Lin An had only intended to see him briefly before returning to bed. Disappointed, Xu Qi'an left feeling deflated.

By noon, they arrived at the agreed-upon meeting place, and the woman who had been haunting Xu Xinnian's dreams finally appeared. She was Wang Simu, the brilliant and quick-witted daughter of Wang Zhenwen, the Grand Secretary of the Inner Cabinet. Although Xu Xinnian and Wang Simu shared mutual affection, the vast social gap between them left Xu Xinnian hesitant to pursue her. When the two met, Xu Xinnian had something important to ask her, but he struggled to speak.

Fortunately, Xu Qi'an stepped in, quickly requesting Wang Simu's help in accessing the Ministry of Personnel to investigate someone. Wang Simu learned the purpose of their visit, but Xu Xinnian’s reserved and overly proper demeanor left her at a loss. Teasingly, she remarked that given Xu Qi'an’s status, it might not be appropriate for him to enter the Ministry. Xu Qi'an immediately understood her implication and suggested that Xu Xinnian handle the matter instead. Wang Simu readily agreed.

At the Ministry of Personnel, Xu Xinnian diligently searched through records, maintaining a respectful demeanor throughout. Meanwhile, Wang Simu personally brought him snacks and noticed his sweaty brow. She thoughtfully approached him to ask if he was too warm or needed a break. However, as she was descending the stairs, she accidentally tripped. Fortunately, Xu Xinnian caught her in time.

What could have been a heroic rescue that made Wang Simu’s heart flutter was instead interrupted by her father, Wang Zhenwen, who had just returned. Misunderstanding the situation, he assumed Xu Xinnian was a scoundrel and promptly kicked him out of the house. Bruised and humiliated, Xu Xinnian returned home, locked himself in his room, and cried bitterly. Shortly afterward, Wang Simu arrived at the Xu residence to explain everything to Xu Qi'an, asking him to help comfort Xu Xinnian.

Meanwhile, she took the initiative to visit Xu Xinnian’s parents, bringing lavish gifts. Xu Xinnian’s mother was speechless with joy upon receiving an entire set of gold jewelry. Xu Pingzhi, thrilled by the masterwork sword crafted by the renowned artisan Gu Huanzhen, couldn’t stop admiring it. Wang Simu observed that her future parents-in-law seemed simple and genuine, and she believed they would be easy to get along with in the future.
