Lin An heard from her maid that Xu Qi'an was departing for Chuzhou today to investigate a case, a mission fraught with dangers. Worried about his safety, Lin An rushed out. By the time she reached the dock, Xu Qi'an's ship had just departed. Hearing Lin An calling his name from the dock, Xu Qi'an immediately ordered his crew to stop the ship and wait for her for a quarter of an hour.

Impatient to see Lin An, Xu Qi'an couldn’t bear the ship’s slow return. Overcome with eagerness, he dove into the water and swam toward her. Meanwhile, Lin An, who had never done manual labor in her life, boarded a small boat and started rowing toward him herself. The two made their way to each other, and when they finally met on Lin An's boat, Xu Qi'an mustered his courage and kissed her.

He repeated her own words from the past: "I don't want to just be ordinary friends. " After confessing his feelings, Xu Qi'an hurriedly swam back and re-boarded his ship. Once back on the ship, Xu Qi'an recalled how Wei Yuan had promised to dispatch the twelve bronze figures to assist him. However, he only saw Nangong Qianrou.

Frustrated, Xu Qi'an ordered his men to search each cabin, only to discover that Nangong Qianrou's nickname was "Number Twelve" due to her rank among the night watchmen, having no actual connection to the twelve bronze figures. It seemed Wei Yuan had played a trick on him. While pacing the deck, Xu Qi'an spotted a sachet belonging to the Duchess of Zhenbei.

Previously in Da Feng, he often had the strange fortune of finding sachets, but he hadn’t expected this one to belong to her. Realizing the duchess was secretly aboard the ship, Xu Qi'an suspected trouble. That evening, he warned Nangong Qianrou that the duchess’s presence was highly suspicious and would likely provoke pursuit. As soon as he finished speaking, countless flaming arrows rained down on the ship, catching the soldiers off guard.

At dawn, various officials stood at the dock, organizing the transport of injured soldiers to safety. The Kui tribe relentlessly pursued the Duchess of Zhenbei. To evade them, the duchess had her maids dress in her clothes as decoys.

However, Xu Qi'an, now adept at using the Qi-Observing Technique, quickly pinpointed the duchess’s true location and rescued her in time. The Duchess of Zhenbei, who had once been held as a political hostage in the palace for several years, was desperate to return home. Eager to escape, she attempted to flee repeatedly.

Xu Qi'an, fully aware of her intentions, captured her five or six times before she finally realized there was no way out and reluctantly complied with his arrangements. Xu Qi'an decided to take the Duchess of Zhenbei to Neihuang County first. While the officials acted openly, he would operate in secret. To gather information, Xu Qi'an visited a courtesan in Chuzhou. Though he used his cousin Xu Xinnian's name, the courtesan quickly recognized him as Xu Qi'an.

She intentionally mentioned that Xikou County had been mysteriously sealed off two days ago. Xu Qi'an noticed the hurried movements of the people passing by and decided to investigate further. However, when he questioned another local courtesan, she claimed to know nothing about the blockade.
