Xu Yao and Yu Jiaen were setting up Li Nianhuan's room. While Yu Jiaen was preparing to cook, she accidentally cut her hand while peeling potatoes. Xu Yao found a clown headgear while searching for a bandage and Yu Jiaen lied, saying it was a stress-relief technique recommended by her therapist. Xu Yao learned about the medication Yu Jiaen had seen in Hao Chenshi's possession and guessed that it was intended for him. So, he decided to pretend to find it amusing and joined Yu Jiaen. Yu Jiaen applied clown makeup to Xu Yao and they both wore the headgear. They followed the movements of a clown in a video with accompanying music. Xu Yao began to dance, but eventually, he recalled a childhood incident when he had been mistaken for stealing a phone and how his father had bowed and apologized to the other party. Xu Yao had seen this from outside his father's office. His father had told him that the other party's parents had forgiven him, but he would always remember how the other student's mother had pointed at his father and insulted him. Since that time, he had been determined to earn a lot of money. Seeing Xu Yao cry on the floor, Yu Jiaen felt very sorry for him.

Li Nianhuan invited Zhang Qing and Hao Chenshi to her housewarming party. Hao Chenshi saw Zhang Qing and asked why she was avoiding him, as he couldn't seem to evade her no matter what. While Li Nianhuan and the others were on their way home, Xu Yao quickly washed off the makeup on his face. He was happy that he was getting closer to Yu Jiaen.

Regarding the dowry issue, he would give it to Zhang Qing if she wanted, but not to her family. Zhang Qing was moved by his words and looked at Hao Chenshi through the rearview mirror. For the first time, she felt that he appeared less arrogant and actually understood her.

Xu Yao warned Zhao Ang not to stay overnight, as things were progressing too fast, and Li Nianhuan was older than Zhao Ang. Li Nianhuan sought Yu Jiaen's help to "rescue" Zhao Ang.
