Green Bamboo sensed a peculiar smell in the courtyard and approached Cui'er to sniff it. She found a distinctive scent on Cui'er but noticed that Cui'er dared not speak. Gong Waner, hearing Green Bamboo's comment about a strange smell on Cui'er, became convinced that Rong Xiu was behind it. Gong Waner decided to exploit the situation with Cui'er to counteract Xue Lingyi's schemes. She mocked Xue Lingyi for her dubious methods, warning her sister to be cautious. Xue Lingyi paid no attention to Gong Waner's words.
During Old Mrs. Rong's banquet, Gong Waner lured others to find Rong Xiu, leaving Xue Lingyi embarrassed by her husband's absence. While Xue Lingyi went to look for her husband, Gong Waner encouraged everyone to witness the spectacle. As the commotion attracted a crowd, they arrived at the scene of the fight. Madam Rong was furious witnessing such a scene. Gong Waner secretly sent Cui'er away from the palace. Xue Lingyi knelt before Madam Rong, and Gong Waner, fueling the fire, made Xue Lingyi realize her sister's malicious intent. Madam Rong believed Xue Lingyi harbored strong jealousy, and Gong Waner resurrected past grievances, leaving Xue Lingyi in extreme fear.
