In the middle of the night, Mei Lin was asleep in bed, while Murong Jinghe lay on a straw mat on the floor, plagued by nightmares. Seeing this, Mei Lin fetched some wild eggplant herb from outside, burned it to help calm his mind and aid his sleep. The next morning, she went out to fetch water and pick wild fruits, while Murong Jinghe stayed in the small hut, waiting for news from Qing Yan.

Yin Luomei, following the Emperor's orders, headed to the Xishan mines to mobilize the troops. Murong Xuanlie's third brother had already prepared for this and became suspicious but still sent people to hunt down Murong Jinghe. At the same time, he informed Yang Zhen to find a way to keep Yin Luomei trapped. At this moment, Qing Yan secretly followed them into the Xishan mines.

To delay the mobilization, Yang Zhen incited a miner riot, but Qing Yan took advantage of the chaos to rescue Li Qing. Yang Zhen happened to witness this. After the riot was quelled, Yin Luomei directly exposed Yang Zhen's deliberate plan to incite the chaos. Yang Zhen, quick-witted, shifted the blame onto Sun Tong, the deputy general of the Lulin Army.

Yin Luomei, not interested in dealing with the internal conflicts of the Lulin Army, immediately led the troops to set out. Yang Zhen sent a letter by express to Murong Xuanlie, who immediately released his trained eagle, Haidongqing, to search. On the other side, Pang Qi brought people to rendezvous with Murong Jinghe. To avoid being discovered by Haidongqing, they temporarily hid in the small wooden hut.

Yang Zhen, fearing that the truth would implicate the Crown Prince, decided to take all the blame himself. He arranged for Sun Tong to take fake accounting books to the court, claiming that he had illegally sold war prisoners for profit, and then took his own life out of guilt.

Sun Tong was shocked upon hearing this and hurriedly tried to dissuade Yang Zhen, saying that even though the Crown Prince had shown him great kindness, there was no need to repay it with his life. Yang Zhen responded that he was the son of a horseman and that if it weren’t for the Crown Prince, who opened schools and promoted people regardless of their background, he would never have achieved his current high rank.

After Yang Zhen’s suicide, Sun Tong sent another letter to Murong Xuanlie, who felt a heavy heart and sent people to intercept Qing Yan and his group. Qing Yan, with no other option, sent an urgent letter to Murong Jinghe asking for help. Murong Jinghe had no choice but to order Pang Qi to shoot down Haidongqing, thereby exposing his hiding place in Zhongshan and using this opportunity to lure Murong Xuanlie’s forces away.

Murong Jinghe then led his group in setting up traps, waiting for the Crown Prince's men to fall into them. Murong Xuanlie received the signal and pursued them. Murong Jinghe and Mei Lin fought side by side, but they were eventually overwhelmed by the superior numbers. Pang Qi was killed by several arrows while protecting Murong Jinghe. At the crucial moment, Qing Yan appeared and blocked some of the attacks, covering for Mei Lin and Murong Jinghe’s escape.

By the time Murong Xuanlie arrived, the ground was littered with bodies, with only Murong Jinghe’s jade thumb ring left behind. Murong Jinghe deliberately had Qing Yan set off a smoke signal at Xiaoyun Peak, knowing that Murong Xuanlie would personally go there. Meanwhile, he and Mei Lin climbed a winding and treacherous path. Standing midway up the mountain, the two shared their fears.

Mei Lin revealed that she disliked the crows that seemed to wait for death, while Murong Jinghe admitted that his greatest fear was losing, as defeat on the battlefield always meant casualties. As a commander, winning quickly was the greatest mercy he could offer his people. Soon after, Murong Xuanlie confirmed Murong Jinghe’s escape route and deduced that it would take them at least five days to reach Sunset Cliff on foot.

He ordered his men to throw poisoned corpses upstream, cutting off Mei Lin and Murong Jinghe’s water supply. Murong Jinghe, having once led his soldiers through four days without food or water, believed that if he could survive crawling out of piles of dead bodies back then, he could do the same now. Mei Lin vowed to endure alongside Murong Jinghe. Meanwhile, the nobles were speculating about the reason for Prince Jing’s disappearance.

The Emperor, troubled every day, caused Zi Gu to become worried. She prayed to the gods for the safe return of Prince Jing, just as Murong Qian observed this from nearby. Murong Xuanlie brought Yin Luomei to report the situation to the Emperor. The Emperor, confused by Murong Jinghe's actions, ordered Yin Luomei and Murong Xuanlie to search for Prince Jing together, ensuring his safety at all costs.
