When Yue Qin hurried back to the Prince’s Palace, it was already too late. The King of Xiyan, seeing that he was still obsessed with a woman, ordered him to be locked in his room. The next morning, Murong Jinghe and Qing Yan headed to Xiyan, only to find the road littered with white paper money. The people were mourning, lamenting that the moon had set over Kunlun, and he suddenly sensed that something was wrong.

He rushed into the flower forest, whipping the ground to unearth Mei Lin’s “corpse” to take her away. Murong Jinghe couldn’t believe that Mei Lin was dead. He insisted on carrying her “body” back, shrouded in gloom, completely devoid of life. For three whole days, he paraded Mei Lin through the streets and rivers, sharing meals and sleeping together, as if she were still alive.

This bizarre behavior shocked the citizens, leading them to believe that the King had truly gone mad. Since Zi Gu's pregnancy, the Emperor often came to keep her company, but despite having the Emperor by her side, she still longed for her family far away in Xiyan. Zi Gu wondered how Mei Lin was adjusting to life as the Prince’s Consort and what her relationship with her brother was like.

The Emperor had already learned of Mei Lin’s death and, to protect Zi Gu’s feelings, instructed the eunuch Wang Baoxian to keep it a secret. Meanwhile, Murong Jinghe was confined in the government office for several days, lost in his thoughts, muttering to himself. Even as he grew thin and haggard, he refused to let go of Mei Lin and would not allow her to be buried until he accepted the reality of her death.

It wasn’t until Mei Lin began to return blood that he finally acknowledged she was gone. Murong Jinghe fell into deep self-reproach, believing that the majority of the blame for Mei Lin's death lay with him. If only the antidote had not gone wrong on the way, this tragic outcome could have been avoided.

He then donned wedding garments for both himself and Mei Lin, deciding to hold a long-overdue wedding and sleep together, preparing to commit suicide with a hairpin in a display of loyalty. At the same time, Yue Qin was imprisoned by the King of Xiyan. He seized a guard's curved dagger and cut off his own hand to break free from the chains.

Qing Yan intervened to stop Murong Jinghe from taking his own life, while Yue Qin rushed into the government office looking for Mei Lin, only to be beaten by the King. Suddenly, a subordinate reported that Mei Lin’s body was missing, causing both men to pause. The attendant Yun Xi hurriedly took Yue Qin away, and Murong Jinghe learned that the blood Mei Lin had returned was not from a corpse, meaning she was still alive.

Murong Jinghe frantically searched the streets, but ultimately found nothing, realizing that Mei Lin harbored resentment and no longer wished to see him. Earlier, Mei Lin had thought to use bamboo nails to seal her blood and breath, allowing herself to appear dead for seven days, after which she would awaken on her own. A Yi and A Ye watched over her, worried that she might not wake up. Fortunately, Mei Lin finally regained consciousness, albeit weak.

They reassured her not to worry; the Snow Dragon Vine would bloom again in four months, giving Mei Lin a chance to be saved. However, Mei Lin knew she wouldn’t live to see the snow four months later. Two days later, while wandering the streets, Mei Lin overheard people discussing how much better Qingzhou was becoming, which filled her with a sense of relief, allowing her to reconcile with her parents in spirit.

However, Murong Jinghe continued to wear his wedding clothes every day as he walked around outside. When Mei Lin arrived at the Blue Cang River, she couldn’t help but think of him. Watching the river water, she began to weep, which Murong Jinghe noticed as he stood dazed on the bridge. Mei Lin cupped the river water, saddened by her remaining three months of life and whether it was worth pursuing. Suddenly, she heard her mother’s voice in her mind.

Looking up at the stars, a smile of happiness spread across her face, causing Murong Jinghe to break into tears. At that moment, as Mei Lin turned to leave, Murong Jinghe hurried after her, overhearing her conversation with A Yi and A Ga. He learned that Mei Lin had changed her name to Hua Niangzi, and his heart quietly whispered that this was good—no one would disturb her life anymore. With that, he turned away, feeling a deep sense of loneliness.
