Upon hearing the commotion, the Empress Dowager immediately got up to investigate. As she entered, the voice of Eunuch Gao requesting an audience came from outside. The Empress Dowager had to speak up, claiming she was still dressing. Dongfang Jing covered Su Xianling's mouth and pulled her away. He recognized the face behind the mask as Dongfang Yi's biological mother. She was supposed to have perished in the fire at the Wang Mansion years ago, but for some unknown reason, she had survived and now posed as the Empress Dowager.
All along, Dongfang Jing had known that the Empress Dowager was not his biological mother, but he had never suspected that she was Dongfang Yi's birth mother. He hesitated to tell Dongfang Yi the truth, fearing that it would weigh him down just as it had affected himself. Su Xianling felt that nobody could truly empathize. Having grown up without parents, she had never given up on the cherished dream of reuniting with them. She was determined to stand by Dongfang Jing's side and assist him.
Dongfang Jing believed he was a shattered individual and not worth Su Xianling's dedication. However, Su Xianling had already made up her mind about him.
The next morning, Su Xianling crafted a grass frog that she used to play with as a child and gave it to Dongfang Jing. This made Dongfang Jing very happy. After lunch, the two of them spotted Dongfang Yi focused on practicing archery in the garden. They decided not to reveal the truth to him. When Dongfang Yi went to deliver the archery target to Nan Yaner, he learned that she was going to meet the Empress Dowager to expedite the wedding. He followed her and accidentally overheard the Empress Dowager's intent to eliminate Nan Yaner, which shocked him.
