Are You the One Episode 21 Recap
> Are You the One Recap
The patriarch of the He family was eager to establish a connection with the Marquis of Zhennan, so he ordered He Zhen to stay home and prepare for marriage. He Zhen felt a bit disheartened, wondering if all her silent contributions at home were less valued than a marriage alliance. However, unable to defy her father's orders, she reluctantly agreed. With some free time, she went to visit Liu Miantang.
Unsure of how to broach the subject, He Zhen, anxious and uneasy, came up with a story about a friend who accidentally suffered a head injury and mistook someone else for a relative. She wanted to tell this friend the truth but was stopped by many people and didn’t know what to do. Liu Miantang, realizing what He Zhen was implying, subtly advised her not to worry too much.
He Zhen, reassured, finally felt at ease, and the two of them then shifted their discussion to embroidery without any lingering tension between them. Lian Binglan, unwilling to give up the position of Princess of Huaiyang, frequently visited the Prince of Huaiyang’s residence. She even persuaded her aunt to publicly acknowledge her as the daughter-in-law during a prayer ceremony at the temple, making it known to everyone who the future princess would be.
Cui Xingzhou’s mother, easily swayed, quickly agreed to Lian Binglan's request. On the day of the prayer ceremony at Liuming Temple, some Daoists arrived in the city. Although they all carried the proper documents to enter, Cui Xingzhou soon discovered that two strangers had infiltrated the city. That day, there was also a ritual at Liuming Temple, so Cui Xingzhou immediately ordered additional security and strict enforcement of the rules.
Hearing that Liu Miantang had also gone in the direction of Liuming Temple with her maid, Cui Xingzhou hurriedly returned home. As soon as he reached the house, he heard Liu Miantang's voice outside the door. She was chatting with her maid about the freshness of the fish paste they had just bought.
The maid, unaware of anything amiss, mentioned that they had originally planned to go to Liuming Temple early in the morning, but Liu Miantang had suddenly changed her mind and decided to visit the pharmacy for some tonic instead. She then sent the maid out for some shopping. While Liu Miantang was at the pharmacy, she had already met with an important person and arranged the next steps of her plan.
Seeing Liu Miantang return safely, Cui Xingzhou was relieved, but he also suspected that she had met with an assassin. Liu Miantang countered by asking if he was testing her. Cui Xingzhou was half-convinced about Liu Miantang's supposed amnesia, but for now, he wanted her to stay by his side and chose not to expose her. Cui Xingzhou's mother called him back to the Prince's residence, pressuring him to marry Lian Binglan. When he refused, she physically punished him.
Later, when Liu Miantang saw Cui Xingzhou soaking in the bath, she noticed his shoulder covered in bruises. Cui Xingzhou lied, saying that the Prince of Huaiyang had been upset, likely because he had refused the marriage his mother arranged, and he had been caught in the crossfire. Liu Miantang understood the situation and, after hearing Cui Xingzhou share some stories about Yangshan, suggested that she go to Yangshan to settle an old matter.
Liu Miantang and Cui Xingzhou climbed to a high place together, discussing some of the details of the ambush that day. Based on the clues provided by Cui Xingzhou, Liu Miantang deduced that the ambush at Yangshan was not orchestrated by Lu Wen but rather by Sun Yuner, a cruel woman. Before leaving, Liu Miantang left a handkerchief at Yangshan, arranging a time and place to meet with Sun Yuner.
When Cui Xingzhou heard that his mother was ill, he immediately returned to the residence. This time, his mother suggested that he could take Liu Miantang as a concubine, but Cui Xingzhou refused. Having witnessed his father taking multiple wives and the grievances his mother suffered when he was very young, he was determined not to let future generations endure the same. Saying this, he respectfully apologized to his mother.
