After returning to Qingqiu, Tu Shanjing promptly approached his grandmother to propose breaking off the engagement, displaying a resolute attitude. However, Lady Tai didn't agree; in fact, she became highly emotional. She convened the elders overnight, deciding to hold a ceremony in three days where Tu Shanjing would become the new clan leader. Tu Shanjing and his sister, Tu Shanhao, voiced objections, but then Lady Tai suddenly coughed up blood. They learned that she had exhausted herself for the clan and had only six months left to live.

That night, lightning flashed and thunder roared as a heavy rain poured down. Wen Xiaoliu was suddenly awakened and sensed something was amiss. She rushed outside and found Tu Shanjing standing there, looking lost. She brought him inside and listened as he explained his grandmother's illness and the impending ceremony. Despite his slight disappointment, she understood his decision.

Wen Xiaoliu reassured Tu Shanjing, urging him not to blame himself. She believed that his compassionate nature was what made her fall for him. Meanwhile, Tu Shanhao visited his mother's memorial and drowned his sorrows in alcohol. He felt ashamed not because the Tu Clan only recognized Tu Shanjing but because his ambitions were belittled by his own brother. Xingling Xie suddenly appeared and shared a secret with him, revealing that they still had a chance.

Shortly afterward, the Tu Clan held a relatively modest yet dignified ceremony for the new clan leader. Wen Xiaoliu, Cang Xuan, and others attended as spectators. They witnessed auspicious signs, indicating that Tu Shanjing's leadership would bring prosperity to the clan. However, Tu Shanjing seemed distracted, glancing frequently at Wen Xiaoliu, who felt that despite their proximity, they were worlds apart.

The ceremony ended with music and announcements. As Wen Xiaoliu headed outside, Xiang Liu called her name. She remembered what Cang Xuan had said and fought to suppress her emotions. Xiang Liu didn't offer an explanation but engaged in casual conversation, asking about her views on Tu Shanjing's impending marriage to Feng Fengyi.

Wen Xiaoliu smiled, claiming she had come to terms with it. Her past hardships taught her to let go and cherish present happiness. To temporarily lighten her mood, Xiang Liu took her to an underground betting venue run by the Rong Clan in Qingqiu. There, they met the slave boy from forty years ago.

Xiang Liu told Wen Xiaoliu about the boy's deal with his master: if he won for forty consecutive years, he would gain freedom. Tonight was his final night, but his opponent was stronger. The boy struggled, and after a lengthy and intense fight, both participants collapsed, bloodied and exhausted, leaving no clear winner.

Seeing the boy's perseverance reminded Wen Xiaoliu of herself. She loudly encouraged him to stand up, and he did, finally achieving his dream of freedom. While they lost money, everyone was moved by the boy's determination. Wen Xiaoliu, on the other hand, won a significant amount. She gave all the winnings to the boy and named him "Left Ear," hoping he'd find a better future.

Watching him leave, Wen Xiaoliu's emotions grew complex. She wished that Xiang Liu could have escaped the battle and met her, leading a different life. Xiang Liu, burdened by responsibilities and ideals, felt trapped and unable to pursue the life he wanted. He gazed at Wen Xiaoliu, and their eyes held unspoken emotions. He almost reached out to touch her cheek but suddenly regained his composure, uttering harsh words.

Tu Shanjing appeared just in time to shield Wen Xiaoliu from Xiang Liu's harsh words. Wen Xiaoliu quickly led him away, leaving Xiang Liu to bear the burden of his suppressed pain alone as he walked into the endless darkness.

Initially, Wen Xiaoliu had considered giving up on Tu Shanjing. However, after seeing the boy's determination, she resolved to persevere no matter what the future held. Tu Shanjing was relieved to hear this and hugged her warmly. Later, Tu Shanjing confronted Chishui Fenglong, and they engaged in a fierce fight. Wen Xiaoliu, along with Chenrong Xinyue, left the scene, believing that men should settle their disputes as men. After the fight, they reconciled.

Currently, three out of the four major clans supported Cang Xuan. The fifth and seventh princes discussed their strategy and decided to use the "nail" buried on the Chenrong Mountain forty years ago. Shen Shu Tong and Fan Zhang personally met with Cang Xuan, informing him about the upcoming ritual at the Daming Hall. Despite the tight schedule, Cang Xuan agreed to help.
