Love and Sword Episode 16 Recap
> Love and Sword Recap
Rong Shukuang was awakened by the sound of fighting outside. When she stepped out, she saw Yan Shao engaged in battle with three members of the Junshan Sect. They claimed to be the senior disciples of Shangguan Tong and had come to take him back for punishment. Shangguan Tong, feeling guilty, was ready to take his own life as atonement, but Yan Shao stopped him.
Yan Shao assured the Junshan Sect members that after eliminating the Ghost Valley Alliance, he would give them a proper explanation and expressed his belief that Shangguan Tong had hidden reasons for his actions. Shangguan Tong admitted that his master had died by his sword but denied murdering him. Knowing they were no match for Yan Shao and trusting that Tiangang would uphold justice, the Junshan Sect members left.
Rong Shukuang recognized Shangguan Tong as the one who had previously attempted to ignite the fire oil and accused Yan Shao of deceiving her. Yan Shao admitted to the deception but promised never to lie to Rong Shukuang again. He also explained that Shangguan Tong was not inherently evil but had been manipulated. Rong Shukuang chose to believe Yan Shao but suddenly felt a pain in her chest.
Yan Shao quickly checked her pulse and, upon learning that she had been experiencing this discomfort for the past two days, attributed it to exhaustion from traveling. He said nothing more. The next day, Yan Shao and Rong Shukuang continued on their journey. While Rong Shukuang was asleep, Yan Shao suddenly felt unwell. When she awoke and saw him drenched in sweat, she anxiously asked about his condition. However, Yan Shao pretended to be fine.
Rong Shukuang brought up her impending marriage and expressed her dissatisfaction with marrying someone she didn’t even know, assuming that the leader of Tiangang must be old and ugly. Yan Shao, however, spoke highly of the Tiangang leader, which only made Rong Shukuang more upset—she thought Yan Shao was eager to marry her off to Chu Tianyao. Yan Shao, unwilling to argue, simply went to sit with Shangguan Tong, who advised him not to reason with women.
Shen Zuitian and his men had been tracking Yan Shao and the others. When they passed by Junshan Sect territory, Shen Zuitian decided to make a stop, instructing the others to continue the pursuit. Hua Qi wanted to follow Shen Zuitian, and he did not refuse. Due to the dispute over the marriage, Yan Shao and Rong Shukuang refused to speak to each other directly, instead using Shangguan Tong as a go-between.
Shangguan Tong felt that they were either flirting or playing with him on purpose. Liu An had been secretly following Yan Shao and Rong Shukuang, leaving markers along the way to guide Lin Wanci and the others. When Yan Shao’s group checked into an inn, Shangguan Tong, tired of being their messenger, asked the innkeeper for paper slips so the two could write their messages instead of making him relay them.
Shangguan Tong also prepared two masks for them, saying it would be better if they couldn’t see each other at all. Rong Shukuang always called Shangguan Tong a child, but he solemnly reminded her that he was no longer a child and asked her to stop calling him that. Meanwhile, Lin Shaoci and his group arrived in town. Lin Wanci noticed the markers left by Liu An.
Lin Shaoci and Tang Yingluo wandered the marketplace together, where Tang Yingluo spotted a hairpin that she knew Rong Shukuang would like. Lin Shaoci immediately bought it. At the same time, Rong Shukuang and Yan Shao were also strolling through the market. Seeing steamed buns made Rong Shukuang hungry, and she finally broke her silence with Yan Shao. While the two were busy buying buns, Lin Shaoci’s newly bought hairpin fell to the ground.
By the time he retrieved it, he had missed the chance to see Rong Shukuang. After returning to the inn, Rong Shukuang felt unwell again. Yan Shao hurried over to check on her and massaged her to ease her discomfort. He then insisted that she sleep on the bed. Unable to hold back, Rong Shukuang asked Yan Shao if he truly wanted her to marry Chu Tianyao.
Yan Shao did not answer, which infuriated Rong Shukuang, and she went to sleep angrily. Lin Shaoci looked at the hairpin in his hand and placed it back into his robe. He drank heavily, blaming himself for past mistakes. Tang Yingluo advised him to let go, saying that love was also about setting someone free. Lin Shaoci held Tang Yingluo’s hand and told her that he didn’t want her to suffer like he did.
After saying that, he passed out from drinking too much. The next day, Lin Wanci suggested leaving, but Lin Shaoci insisted on staying longer to look for Rong Shukuang before considering retreating. Yan Shao secretly met with Feng Ming and Feiwu and learned that Shen Zuitian’s group had arrived nearby. Yan Shao made the necessary defensive arrangements. Meanwhile, Rong Shukuang was helping a child retrieve a kite and almost fell.
Just as she prayed for someone to catch her, both Lin Shaoci and Yan Shao rushed forward at the same time, catching her together. Lin Wanci and the others also checked into the same inn as Rong Shukuang. This made Rong Shukuang suspicious—when they had first arrived, they were told the inn was full, which was why she and Yan Shao had to share a room.
Lin Wanci pretended to be concerned and held Rong Shukuang’s hand, trying to check her condition. She was surprised to find that Rong Shukuang’s symptoms had significantly improved, confirming what Shen Zuitian had told her—that Yan Shao had transferred the poison to himself. Rong Shukuang went to the innkeeper and requested another room, only to be told once again that there were no vacancies.
Worried about her reputation, she rushed back to the room and insisted that Yan Shao go stay with Shangguan Tong instead. However, Yan Shao refused to leave. Rong Shukuang deliberately moved closer to Yan Shao, making it seem as though she was about to do something improper. Alarmed, Yan Shao fled the room in a panic. Lin Wanci had been secretly watching Rong Shukuang’s room and saw Yan Shao step out.
