Love of Nirvana Episode 12 Recap
> Love of Nirvana Recap
Pei Yan, Wei Zhao, Cui Liang, and Jiang Ci traveled to Nanning together in the same carriage. Jiang Ci prepared some exquisite pastries to share with them. Yi Fei and Tong Min followed on horseback. The two quickly hit it off, and their conversation became increasingly lively. After traveling day and night, the group finally arrived in Nanning. They switched to a small boat to continue their journey.
Nanning was known for its talented people and beautiful landscapes, but Wei Zhao and Pei Yan had no time to admire the scenery. They were busy discussing the military equipment case. Jiang Ci, who had no interest in the matter, offered to help the local fisherwoman, Li Ayan, row the boat, even lending her a cloak to keep warm.
Once they reached Pei Yan’s old home, the Changfeng Estate, Li Ayan returned the cloak, and Jiang Ci gave it to her as a gift. Upon returning home, Pei Yan hosted a grand banquet to welcome the Pei family members. However, Pei Zifang, the head of the Pei clan, did not take Pei Yan seriously, mocking him and hurling insults. He accused Pei Yan of bringing shame to the Pei family for the sake of a woman.
Worried that Pei Yan would lose face, Jiang Ci asked to excuse herself to avoid the situation. Wei Zhao stepped in to defend Pei Yan, scolding the clan members harshly. Frightened, they hurriedly apologized. Knowing that Wei Zhao was a favorite of Emperor Xie Che, Pei Zifang reluctantly stood up to admit his fault, but Wei Zhao was unforgiving and scolded him even more fiercely. Jiang Ci quietly slipped away, followed closely by Cui Liang.
Jiang Ci added Junzilan, a cooling herb, to the porridge and instructed the maid not to serve it to Pei Yan. She wanted Pei Zifang and the other clan members to suffer from diarrhea. Cui Liang accompanied Jiang Ci on a stroll through the streets, while Wei Zhao secretly observed everything from a distance. As they wandered through the streets of Nanning, Cui Liang admired a pouch for sale, which reminded him of a strange incident from two weeks prior.
While sitting in a riverside pavilion, lost in thought, a paper crane had landed on his lap, inscribed with two lines of poetry. Jiang Ci, who had stopped at a roadside stall to drink porridge, suddenly spotted Wei Zhao and approached him, asking why he had come to Nanning as well. Wei Zhao refused to answer and added a lot of sugar to his porridge. Curious about his love for sugar, Jiang Ci asked about it.
Wei Zhao then asked Jiang Ci to help decode the secret cipher of the Changfeng Guards’ message transmissions, but Jiang Ci refused outright. Wei Zhao deliberately mentioned that the Lingjiu Flower, used to make the “Bitter Porridge,” was found in Yue Luo City. Jiang Ci suddenly realized that the rice used in the porridge by the stall owner was old.
Jiang Ci had added Junzilan to the porridge, causing Pei Zifang and the other clan members to suffer from severe diarrhea, forcing them to return home. Pei Yan, sensing something amiss, instructed Tong Min to investigate the matter thoroughly. Wei Zhao and Jiang Ci returned to the Changfeng Estate, with Cui Liang arriving shortly after. He handed Jiang Ci the pouch he had bought in the streets.
Pei Yan then emerged to escort Jiang Ci inside and gave her a cloak. Watching them enter together, Wei Zhao couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy. Pei Yan, suspecting that Xie Che had sent Wei Zhao to monitor him, asked Jiang Ci to stay and help him put on an act. Jiang Ci readily agreed. When Wei Zhao heard that Jiang Ci had stayed overnight in Pei Yan’s room, his anger only deepened.
He then sent Yi Fei to continue searching for the whereabouts of the Yan Shuangqiao sisters. Pei Zifang had been secretly selling military equipment in collusion with the Nanning magistrate, He Zhenwen, resulting in a serious shortage of military supplies. In desperation, He Zhenwen had resorted to producing substandard equipment, which was unexpectedly sent to Qingkang. Pei Zifang reminded him to handle the situation quickly before Pei Yan and Wei Zhao uncovered the truth.
He Yonglin, He Zhenwen’s son, had been waiting outside for his father. When He Zhenwen left Pei Zifang’s house in disgrace, He Yonglin expressed his indignation on behalf of his father. But He Zhenwen, unwilling to provoke Pei Zifang, reminded He Yonglin to hide the refugees carefully. He warned that Pei Yan and Wei Zhao would be visiting the armory for an investigation the next day, and they could not afford any mistakes.
The next morning, Pei Yan and Wei Zhao arrived at the magistrate’s office, where He Zhenwen and the local officials had been waiting for some time. He Zhenwen took them on a tour of the armory, and as soon as Wei Zhao entered, he noticed a furnace that had been burned beyond recognition. He Zhenwen claimed that the fire had been caused by a craftsman’s error and had resulted in the deaths of several workers.
Wei Zhao, however, could tell right away that He Zhenwen was shirking responsibility. Terrified, He Zhenwen knelt down and admitted his mistake. After a thorough inspection of the armory, Pei Yan and Wei Zhao found nothing unusual. Wei Zhao then suggested that they pretend to be on a leisurely outing while conducting their investigation in secret.
