Rong Yudie had placed trusted aides in her hometown of Nanling at Changfeng Wu, who kept her informed of Pei Yan and Jiang Ci's every move. Upon learning that Pei Yan had allowed Li Ayan to stay at Changfeng Wu, she became concerned. Rong Yudie had been secretly stockpiling military weapons at Biheshanzhuang in Nanling for years, intending to someday restore the Pei family’s power.

For years, He Zhenwen had been maneuvering within the Pei clan, trying every possible means to shift the focus of the military weapons case onto the corruption of Pei clan members. Unexpectedly, Li Ayan resurfaced, and He Zhenwen became worried that Pei Yan might uncover the secret of the hidden weapons at Biheshanzhuang.

Unsure of what to do, he went to Biheshanzhuang to report to Madam Du, who warned him that if Pei Yan discovered the secret, their lives would be in danger. He Yonglin was still reeling from Wei Zhao stabbing his hand, and He Zhenwen was deeply distressed. Vowing to avenge his son, He Zhenwen revealed the truth about Li Ayan to him.

He Yonglin devised a plan to spread false information, claiming that relics from the burned craftsmen had been found at the armory, hoping to lure Li Ayan into a trap. Pei Yan sent An Cheng and Tong Min to investigate the craftsmen who had worked with Zheng Sheng in the same workshop, but they found nothing. Anxious, Pei Yan was comforted when Jiang Ci personally made him Ding Sheng cake to encourage him.

When Wei Zhao came to ask Li Ayan for information, she refused to answer. Wei Zhao felt a pang of jealousy when he saw Pei Yan holding the cake Jiang Ci had made. Li Ayan overheard rumors about finding relics at the workshop and, while Jiang Ci was asleep, sneaked out of the mansion. When Jiang Ci woke up and found her missing, she immediately sought out Wei Zhao, who also had no idea where Li Ayan had gone.

He Yonglin successfully lured Li Ayan to the workshop and assaulted her. Wei Zhao and Jiang Ci searched everywhere for Li Ayan, eventually finding her at the armory’s workshop. He Yonglin arrogantly boasted in front of Jiang Ci, provoking her into a fight. They wrestled with each other until Wei Zhao arrived just in time, delivering a severe beating to He Yonglin and knocking him to the ground.

Desperate and ashamed, Li Ayan considered ending her life, but Jiang Ci pleaded with her not to act rashly. Wei Zhao also encouraged her to stand up and fight back, to seek justice for Zheng Sheng. Overwhelmed with grief, Li Ayan wept uncontrollably, but Jiang Ci’s comforting words gave her the strength to vow to bring He Yonglin to justice and expose everything to the public.

Wei Zhao had Yi Fei publicly parade He Yonglin and his accomplices through the streets in chains. They arrived at the governor's office, where He Zhenwen and Pei Yan rushed to the scene upon hearing the news. Li Ayan accused He Yonglin of abusing his power and exploiting others. He Zhenwen fervently defended his son and begged Pei Yan to take over the trial, requesting an hour to treat He Yonglin’s injuries.

He even revealed a peony jade pendant, a keepsake that Pei Yan immediately recognized as his mother Rong Yudie’s possession, making everything clear to him. After much deliberation, Pei Yan decided to postpone the trial by an hour, appointing Wei Zhao as an assistant judge. Jiang Ci pleaded with Pei Yan to deliver justice for Li Ayan.

He Zhenwen invited Pei Yan to Biheshanzhuang, where treasures and a large stockpile of weapons were hidden—wealth that could allow Pei Yan to dominate the world. He Zhenwen admitted to killing Zheng Sheng and others to silence them after they discovered the secret of the defective weapons. When He Zhenwen was at his lowest, he had the fortune of meeting Rong Yudie, who helped him rise to power.

In return, he had gathered evidence against the corrupt members of the Pei family. Kneeling before Pei Yan, He Zhenwen begged for his son’s life, saying that if He Yonglin died, he would have nothing left to lose. Pei Yan found himself in a difficult situation. He didn’t want to betray Jiang Ci and Li Ayan’s trust, but at the same time, he couldn’t let his mother’s years of effort go to waste.

As the hour quickly passed, Pei Yan began the trial of Li Ayan’s case. He Yonglin was brought in, and Li Ayan accused the armory of using counterfeit weapons and covering it up by causing the fire that killed Zheng Sheng. He Zhenwen desperately defended his son.

Wei Zhao sent men to the military to investigate the weapons, while He Yonglin claimed that Li Ayan had long been sold to the He family and that their conflict was a family matter, shocking the onlookers and enraging Li Ayan. He Zhenwen recounted the past, revealing that Li Ayan’s father, Li Song, was a servant of the He family who had sold Li Ayan to them.

Li Song had saved He Zhenwen’s life, and as a reward, He Zhenwen had given him a large estate. He Zhenwen claimed he couldn’t bear to let Li Ayan remain a servant, so he proposed that He Yonglin marry her. Pei Yan even advised Li Ayan to marry He Yonglin, but in her rage, Li Ayan pulled out her hairpin, intending to kill He Yonglin.

He Yonglin scrambled to escape, while Wei Zhao intervened, grabbing the hairpin and injuring his hand in the process, blood spilling onto the ground. Pei Yan immediately postponed the trial for three days. Jiang Ci and Wei Zhao, disappointed in Pei Yan, accompanied Li Ayan as they left the governor's office.
