Li Ayan pleaded with Pei Yan to seek justice for her fiancé, Zheng Sheng. He Yonglin, however, devised a scheme to lure Li Ayan to the foundry where he assaulted her. He Zhenwen, worried that He Yonglin might be imprisoned, summoned Pei Yan to Bihe Villa. This secret base, where Rong Yudie stored gold, silver, and military equipment, had been managed by He Zhenwen for years. He Zhenwen knelt and begged Pei Yan to show leniency toward He Yonglin.

Pei Yan personally presided over the case. He Zhenwen and He Yonglin insisted that Li Ayan was a family slave of the He family, even presenting a 30-year-old contract of indenture signed by Li Ayan's father, Li Song, as evidence. Pei Yan, unsure of how to rule, postponed the verdict for three days. Jiang Ci and Wei Zhao saw through Pei Yan's bias toward the He family and were furious. Overcome with stress, Li Ayan fell ill.

Jiang Ci stayed by her side, not leaving for a moment. Wei Zhao, seeing this, assigned Yi Fei to protect Jiang Ci and Li Ayan, preventing anyone from approaching them. At the trial, Wei Zhao blocked a sword aimed at He Yonglin with his hand, suffering a deep cut on his palm. After ensuring Li Ayan was safe, Jiang Ci tended to Wei Zhao's wound.

Touched by her care, Wei Zhao vowed to thoroughly investigate Li Ayan's case and deliver justice. Jiang Ci was deeply grateful and tried hard to cheer him up. She wanted to find other women harmed by He Yonglin to testify, but Wei Zhao worried they wouldn't come forward. Pei Yan realized that the contract of indenture presented by He Zhenwen was forged, but it was so flawless that Pei Yan couldn't find any flaws.

Late that night, he visited He Zhenwen, who begged him to spare He Yonglin. He threatened to expose Rong Yudie's hidden military equipment in Nanling to the court if Pei Yan didn't comply. Caught in a dilemma, Pei Yan consulted Cui Liang, who suggested they find other victims to testify. Pei Yan agreed to send people to investigate. Cui Liang prepared some medicine for Li Ayan and sent it over, asking Jiang Ci to continue searching for other victims.

Jiang Ci personally visited the homes of women who had been harmed by He Yonglin, but all of them, fearing the He family's power, refused to testify. Exhausted and disheartened, Jiang Ci sat in the pouring rain, feeling defeated. Wei Zhao arrived just in time to take her home. Though discouraged, Jiang Ci wasn't ready to give up, and Wei Zhao suggested they find an alternative approach.

Before the trial, He Zhenwen requested an hour to treat He Yonglin's wounds, which made Wei Zhao suspicious that he was attempting to forge the contract of indenture. Jiang Ci agreed. That night, Wei Zhao sneaked into the magistrate's mansion in search of the indenture contract. After much effort, he found it, but Pei Yan, who had anticipated this move, had set a trap around the mansion. Wei Zhao was forced to leave.

Jiang Ci waited anxiously for Wei Zhao, but he never returned. Pei Yan arrived late at night to take Jiang Ci and Li Ayan back to Changfengwu, but Jiang Ci flatly refused. She accused Pei Yan of aiding the wicked for the sake of his family. Pei Yan claimed he was trying to protect everyone and desperately pleaded with Jiang Ci to leave with him, but she remained firm.

Just then, Wei Zhao returned and stopped Pei Yan, forcing him to leave, frustrated. The next morning, Pei Yan resumed the trial of Li Ayan's case. Jiang Ci produced the contract of indenture that Wei Zhao had stolen. In front of everyone, they tested the ink and confirmed that it wasn’t from 20 years ago, proving that Li Song's contract was a forgery. Faced with solid evidence, He Zhenwen was left speechless.

Jiang Ci and Wei Zhao urged Pei Yan to handle the case impartially. Furious, He Yonglin hurled insults at Li Ayan, prompting Jiang Ci to harshly reprimand him. Soon after, the victimized women arrived and collectively accused He Yonglin. Pei Yan ordered both He Zhenwen and He Yonglin to be imprisoned. Desperate to avoid death, He Yonglin drew his sword and charged at Jiang Ci.

Just as Wei Zhao was about to rush in to protect her, a nearby guard drew his sword and fatally struck He Yonglin in the throat, killing him instantly. Grief-stricken, He Zhenwen swore vengeance against Jiang Ci for He Yonglin's death. As Jiang Ci watched the victimized women return to their homes, she felt an indescribable sense of relief. To express her gratitude, Li Ayan prepared a few dishes for Wei Zhao and Jiang Ci.

She casually mentioned Zheng Sheng's background: Zheng Sheng's mother had been a slave, and his father had once worked in the palace. There was a certain lady who frequently sent money to Zheng Sheng's family. Intrigued, Wei Zhao asked who this lady was, but Li Ayan said she had never met her and only provided the bag in which the money was sent. Li Ayan then decided to leave Nanling.

Early the next morning, Li Ayan bid a tearful farewell to Jiang Ci. Wei Zhao suspected that Yan Shuangqiao had been secretly supporting Zheng Sheng all these years, so he sent Yi Fei to investigate.
