Love of Nirvana Episode 18 Recap
> Love of Nirvana Recap
After He Yonglin's death, He Zhenwen gave Pei Yan an ultimatum: Pei Yan must bring Jiang Ci’s head in exchange for the account books from Rong Yudie’s Bihe Villa. Pei Yan found himself in a dilemma. Jiang Ci asked Wei Zhao to return her clay kitten, as she planned to go to Yuzhou to find her master. Wei Zhao flatly refused.
Meanwhile, with the upcoming election of a new City Lord in Yue Luo, Yue Luo Elder Uncle Ping sent word to Wei Zhao through a messenger. Yi Fei informed Wei Zhao of the need to return to Yue Luo for the election, but Wei Zhao was currently on a mission in Nanling on the orders of Emperor Xie Che of Daliang, making it inconvenient for him to return.
He intended to report the matter of Lu Yu’s hidden weapons to the court, knowing the emperor would likely send him to Liangzhou to thoroughly investigate. He could use that opportunity to return to Yue Luo. Wei Zhao heard that Pei Yan had transferred He Zhenwen to the dungeon at Changfengwu, so he reviewed the case involving the military equipment.
He deduced that He Zhenwen possessed account books detailing his dealings with Lu Yu and sent Yi Fei to find them. Jiang Ci planned to set off to meet her master the day after tomorrow but was worried that the person coming to meet her wouldn’t actually be her master. The clay kitten was their secret sign, but since Wei Zhao refused to return it, Jiang Ci came up with a clever plan and crafted a new clay kitten herself.
Rong Yudie sent Nanny Du to deliver a message to Pei Yan, instructing him to give He Yonglin a proper burial to pacify He Zhenwen and to quickly retrieve the account books, so as not to jeopardize their plans. Nanny Du brought Pei Yan to meet He Zhenwen, and Pei Yan inadvertently noticed a hidden dart wound in He Yonglin’s palm, left by Wei Zhao when he rescued Jiang Ci.
Pei Yan recalled that the Silver Masked Assassin used such darts and thus concluded that Wei Zhao was the Silver Masked Assassin. Realizing that Jiang Ci had been hiding this from him, Pei Yan immediately decided to send Wei Zhao back to Qingkang before dealing with it. Nanny Du sent assassins to kill Jiang Ci, but Pei Yan arrived just in time to knock Jiang Ci unconscious and took her back to Changfengwu, warning Lady Du not to harm Jiang Ci.
Upon learning that Pei Yan had taken Jiang Ci to Changfengwu, Wei Zhao rushed there overnight. Jiang Ci woke up groggily and, seeing Pei Yan beside her, guessed that he had knocked her out. Pei Yan, not wanting to explain further, urged her to stay at Changfengwu for now, suggesting that they could return to Qingkang together later. Jiang Ci refused and tried to leave, but Pei Yan forcefully stopped her.
Jiang Ci broke free from his embrace and left Changfengwu. Wei Zhao arrived just in time and took Jiang Ci away with him. Pei Yan watched them leave with mixed emotions. Jiang Ci bid farewell to Wei Zhao, preparing to depart the next day to meet her master. Early the next morning, Pei Yan came to find Wei Zhao, and the two agreed to return to Qingkang together.
Yi Fei suspected that Wei Zhao was planning to cover for Jiang Ci’s departure. Cui Liang came to see Jiang Ci off, mentioning in passing that Pei Yan intended to return to Qingkang in three days. However, Wei Zhao insisted on leaving the next day. Cui Liang noticed Wei Zhao’s intentions and agreed to escort Jiang Ci out of Nanling.
That night, Jiang Ci secretly left while everyone was unprepared, and Cui Liang, who had been waiting for her, accompanied her in a carriage out of Nanling. Wei Zhao silently protected Jiang Ci and Cui Liang along the way, placing the clay kitten in the carriage. Upon seeing the kitten, Jiang Ci felt grateful toward Wei Zhao. Cui Liang accidentally revealed that Pei Yan had discovered the wound on He Yonglin’s hand, left by the Silver Masked Assassin.
Jiang Ci’s heart sank, knowing that if Pei Yan found out that Wei Zhao was the assassin, Wei Zhao’s life would be in danger. Jiang Ci decided to stay behind. Cui Liang dropped Jiang Ci off outside Nanling City and then hurried back with the carriage. Once Cui Liang was far away, Jiang Ci rode back to Changfengwu on horseback. She saw Pei Yan packing his belongings and decided to distract him.
After Pei Yan finished packing and noticed that Jiang Ci was missing, he immediately rode out to search for her. Taking advantage of the chaos, Jiang Ci threw a handful of flower powder, causing Pei Yan’s horse to become agitated. During the commotion, Jiang Ci took the hidden darts Pei Yan had collected.
Jiang Ci returned the darts to Wei Zhao and warned him not to go back to Qingkang, as Pei Yan had deduced from the darts that Wei Zhao was the Silver Masked Assassin. Pei Yan chased all the way outside the city but couldn’t find any trace of Jiang Ci. Realizing that the box of darts was missing, he suspected that Wei Zhao had taken it and went to confront him.
Wei Zhao hid Jiang Ci in a cabinet, and she pleaded with him not to let Pei Yan take her away. Wei Zhao stepped out to meet Pei Yan, who urged him to leave immediately. Wei Zhao feigned an upset stomach, requesting a delay of a few days. Pei Yan decided to stay and travel with him, even suggesting they drink together. Wei Zhao had no choice but to invite him into the room.
As they drank, Jiang Ci anxiously hid in the cabinet. Pei Yan, already aware of Wei Zhao’s true identity, subtly tested him, but Wei Zhao responded calmly and confidently, revealing no flaws. Pei Yan grew suspicious that Jiang Ci was hiding under the bed or in the bath.
Wei Zhao personally led him to check those places, and just as Pei Yan was about to open the wardrobe, Wei Zhao accused Pei Yan of covering up the truth about the military equipment case and drew his sword, stabbing the wardrobe to prove that no one was hiding inside.
