As it was getting late, Lu Yu ordered the Zhenyuan Army to rest in place. He believed that by using the spies from the Shadow Pavilion, he had successfully incited hatred between the citizens and Wei Zhao, and he was confident that he could capture Moonfall City the next day. To celebrate, he invited Pei Yan to drink with him. Wei Zhao planned to find a way to retrieve the bodies of the fallen after nightfall.

However, Elder Ji secretly opened the city gates to recover his son’s body. Wei Zhao rushed to pull him back and had ropes lowered from the city wall to transport the bodies one by one. When Lu Yu found out, he ordered a rain of arrows to be fired. Wei Zhao and his men, risking their lives, managed to bring the bodies back to the city wall.

Pei Yan quickly stopped Lu Yu and advised him to abandon Moonfall City, warning that the people inside were now united. Even if he took the city, he would not be able to control them. Despite risking his life to bring back the bodies of the fallen spies, the citizens still deeply resented Wei Zhao. Hong Jie, understanding Wei Zhao's intentions, urged him to explain the situation to the people, but Wei Zhao felt it was unnecessary.

Jiang Ci, upon hearing about Wei Zhao’s plight from soldiers delivering supplies, believed Wei Zhao would never leave anyone behind and sent him a paper kite as a gesture of support that night. Wei Zhao wrote to Xie Che, detailing how Lu Yu had attacked Moonfall without authorization. He also asked Uncle Ping to spread the word that Jiang Ci was in Moonfall, hoping Yan Shuangqiao would come to find her.

When Xie Che received Wei Zhao’s letter, he was furious and immediately sent orders to Pei Yan, commanding him to bring Lu Yu back to Qingkang. Pei Yan volunteered to negotiate at Moonfall, offering to help delay the Zhenyuan Army for five days in exchange for the ledger of Rong Yudie. Lu Yu, pleased with the plan, gave Pei Yan five days before launching another assault. Early the next day, Pei Yan arrived at Moonfall with Tong Min.

He straightforwardly told Wei Zhao his intentions and offered to buy time in exchange for the ledger. Meanwhile, Jiang Ci, having overworked herself, contracted dysentery and fell gravely ill. When Yu Lian arrived at the medical camp to deliver supplies, she ran into her mother, and the two embraced and cried. Yu Lian and Hong Jie informed Wei Zhao about Jiang Ci’s condition. Wei Zhao immediately rushed to see her.

Pei Yan also wanted to visit Jiang Ci, but Tong Min strongly discouraged him, urging him to stay calm and think about the greater good. Pei Yan sent Tong Min to fetch the best medicine from the Zhenyuan Army’s physician for Jiang Ci. Wei Zhao ordered Uncle Ping to secretly lead troops to Qingkang for reinforcements, while he stayed behind to defend Moonfall. After making all the necessary arrangements, Wei Zhao hurried to Jiang Ci’s side.

She was still unconscious, and Wei Zhao carefully prepared and administered the medicine to her himself. Through relentless efforts, Doctor Ling managed to improve the condition of the citizens who had fallen ill. During the day, Wei Zhao oversaw the city defenses, and at night, he devoted himself to caring for Jiang Ci. Gradually, she recovered, and the people, hearing of her recovery, came to thank her.

Wei Zhao followed shortly after, bowing deeply to express his respect for Jiang Ci. The two of them walked through the snow, with Jiang Ci stepping into Wei Zhao’s footprints. She vaguely remembered Wei Zhao visiting her in the medical camp, but he denied it. Jiang Ci then invited Wei Zhao to fly a kite with her. Wei Zhao carried her on his back, and together they warmed each other as they moved forward.

Time flew by, and winter was coming to an end as spring approached. The relationship between Hong Jie and Yu Lian grew closer, and Jiang Ci was happy for them. She couldn’t help but think of Wei Zhao. After experiencing life and death together so many times, they had etched each other deeply into their hearts.

Meanwhile, Lu Yu secretly sent someone to bring his son, Lu Dalang, from Qingkang, determined to fight a final battle with Moonfall and never return to Qingkang. An Cheng learned of this and quickly informed Pei Yan, who became deeply concerned for Wei Zhao. Wei Zhao handed a white jade hairpin to Hong Jie, urging him to protect the citizens of Moonfall as Elder Hong had done. Hong Jie advised Wei Zhao to stay in Moonfall after the battle.

The families of the fallen came to confront Wei Zhao, demanding answers. Elder Ping stepped forward to defend him, and Hong Jie took full responsibility, but the families, consumed with grief, hurled vegetables at Wei Zhao to vent their anger. Jiang Ci rushed to shield him. Wei Zhao knelt in front of the grieving families, admitting his fault.

He blamed himself for using Hong Jie as a hostage and for forbidding the elders from opening the gates, which led to the death of the spies. He remained kneeling, refusing to rise. As heavy snow began to fall, Wei Zhao continued to kneel in repentance, and Jiang Ci stayed by his side. Suddenly, the sound of a battle horn broke the silence. Jiang Ci swallowed the words she wanted to say, deciding to tell Wei Zhao after the war was over.
