Pei Yan, upon learning that Jiang Ci was the daughter of Prince Xie Chun, was eager to take her back to Qingkang. When he came to fetch Jiang Ci, Wei Zhao refused to let him in. Jiang Ci made it clear that the connection between her and Pei Yan had long ended and advised him not to continue clinging to it. Pei Yan, dejected, had no choice but to leave. Wei Zhao held Jiang Ci tightly, repeatedly apologizing to her.

While Jiang Ci had rejected Pei Yan, she was still unwilling to forgive Wei Zhao. Pei Yan, heartbroken, walked back, and both An Cheng and Tong Min felt indignant on his behalf, wanting to persuade Jiang Ci to reconsider. However, Pei Yan understood that things could no longer be salvaged. He decided to write a letter to the Emperor of Dalang, Xie Che, informing him of Jiang Ci’s true identity.

He was certain that Xie Che would summon Jiang Ci back to Qingkang. That night, Wei Zhao sculpted a small clay cat, creating it with meticulous detail. Wei Zhao sent Yi Fei to bring Yan Shuangqiao over, hoping to let Jiang Ci see her master. Upon seeing the wounds on Jiang Ci, Yan Shuangqiao severely scolded Wei Zhao.

Wei Zhao arranged for Uncle Ping to take Yan Shuangqiao back to Qingkang that night, hoping Yan Shuangqiao would tell the Emperor of Dalang, Xie Che, the truth of what happened all those years ago, to restore justice for his father, Xiao Haitian, and to ensure that the people of Yueluo would no longer suffer from oppression. Jiang Ci and Yan Shuangqiao had not seen each other for many years, and they shared their experiences during that time.

Jiang Ci swore she would never let Yan Shuangqiao endure hardship again. Early the next morning, Wei Zhao took Jiang Ci up the mountain for a relaxing walk. Jiang Ci casually recounted stories from her time at Jiangjia Village with Yan Shuangqiao, sharing their everyday moments. She even offered Wei Zhao a date laced with sleeping powder. Wei Zhao, unaware, promised to accompany her back to Jiangjia Village once everything was settled.

Just as he was about to kiss Jiang Ci, he fainted from the drug, allowing Jiang Ci to escape with Yan Shuangqiao. When Wei Zhao woke up in a daze, he found that Uncle Ping had also been drugged. He was speechless with frustration. Xie Che received Pei Yan's letter, learning that Prince Xie Chun had a surviving daughter. He immediately ordered Wei Zhao to bring Jiang Ci and her master back to Qingkang.

Jiang Ci left with Yan Shuangqiao, curious to learn about her parents. Only then did she find out that Yan Shuangqiao’s elder sister, Yan Shuwan, was her mother. Yan Shuangqiao and Yan Shuwan were originally assassins from the State of Wei, tasked with gathering intelligence around Prince Xie Chun. However, Xie Chun was kind and righteous, and he and Yan Shuwan eventually fell in love.

They returned to the Qingkang palace together, and when Yan Shuwan became pregnant, she and Yan Shuangqiao wanted to leave the palace. Xie Chun pretended to be kidnapped by the sisters, and they all fled to Yueluo. Xiao Haitian sheltered Xie Che’s parents and Yan Shuangqiao, but Lu Yu later led troops to attack Yueluo, intending to take Xie Chun back to Qingkang.

Not wanting to drag the people of Yueluo into the conflict, Xie Chun tearfully bid farewell to Yan Shuwan. Before leaving, he left a small clay cat for their unborn child. Yan Shuangqiao later heard that Xie Chun had died at the Zhaixing Pavilion. After Jiang Ci was born, Yan Shuwan followed Xie Chun in death, leaving Jiang Ci in the care of Yan Shuangqiao. Upon learning of her origins, Jiang Ci felt a whirlwind of emotions.

Wei Zhao and Uncle Ping quickly caught up to Jiang Ci. Jiang Ci deliberately spoke harsh words to Wei Zhao, insisting that she had no feelings for him. Yan Shuangqiao, learning that Wei Zhao was the son of Xiao Haitian, revealed that Wei Zhao’s sister, Xiao Yujia, was Xie Che’s consort.

She also remembered clearly that Xiao Yujia had once secretly visited Prince Xie Chun’s tomb, leading her to believe that Xiao Haitian had killed Xie Chun to please the newly enthroned Emperor of Dalang, Xie Che, after failing to secure peace between Dalang and Yueluo. Yan Shuangqiao urged Jiang Ci not to develop any affection for Wei Zhao, as they had the blood feud of a father’s death between them. Pei Yan returned to Qingkang to report to Emperor Xie Che.

The Emperor told him to take a rest. Pei Yan safely returned to the Jian Ding Marquis Mansion, where Rong Yudie urged him to marry Dong Juan soon. However, Pei Yan was not ready to settle down. His push for military reform was aimed at reclaiming the Zhenyuan Army with minimal cost and stabilizing the borders of Dalang. He made it clear that he had no interest in the throne. Rong Yudie, furious, gritted her teeth.

She had been scheming for Pei Yan for many years, even arranging for Lu Dalan’s assassination to ensure that Lu Yu would rebel, so the Zhenyuan Army would be utterly defeated. She planned to use the Changfeng Guards’ strength to support Pei Yan’s ascension to the throne, but Pei Yan had no desire for it. The deputy commander of the Imperial Guard, Chen Mo, brought a secret letter from Xie Che, summoning Wei Zhao to escort Jiang Ci back to Qingkang.

Yan Shuangqiao wanted to use all her strength to take Jiang Ci away, but Jiang Ci wished to return to the palace with Wei Zhao. Wei Zhao, torn between his desire for revenge for his father, Xiao Haitian, and his wish not to hurt Jiang Ci, promised to let Uncle Ping safely settle Yan Shuangqiao. Jiang Ci warned him not to harbor murderous intent toward her master, or she would never forgive him. Wei Zhao escorted Jiang Ci back to Qingkang.

Upon seeing her, Xie Che felt an immediate fondness and warmly inquired after her well-being. Jiang Ci presented the letter her father, Xie Chun, had written before his death. Though part of the letter was soaked from her fall into the river, Jiang Ci had memorized that portion. Xie Che assured her that she could stay in the palace peacefully and promised to properly compensate her.

Though Jiang Ci originally intended to return to Jiangjia Village with Yan Shuangqiao to live a carefree life, she couldn’t bring herself to say it aloud.
