Love of Nirvana Episode 38 Recap
> Love of Nirvana Recap
Wei Zhao led his troops in a fierce battle for two days and two nights, completely exhausted, and fell into a deep sleep. Seeing how tired he was, Jiang Ci felt a deep sense of pity for him. Hong Jie and the elders came to visit Wei Zhao. Wei Zhao decided to head to Liangzhou the next day to join forces with Pei Yan and have the soldiers from Moonfall accompany them. Hong Jie agreed readily.
Uncle Ping, who had witnessed Jiang Ci risking her life to get reinforcements for Wei Zhao, was deeply impressed by her. Lu Yu led the Wei soldiers in an attack on Liangzhou, and Pei Yan, along with the soldiers from the Changfeng Guard, fought desperately, repelling the Wei forces again and again. However, You Ran was dissatisfied and even mocked Pei Yan. Lei Zhen returned in disgrace to report back to Emperor Gao Xiu of Wei.
Gao Xiu was helpless, and Lu Yu harshly reprimanded Lei Zhen. Hearing that You Ran had issues with Pei Yan, Lu Yu suggested to Gao Xiu that they pretend to surrender to You Ran, allowing him to capture some prisoners and enter the city, and then launch an internal attack to retake Liangzhou. Lei Zhen sneered at Lu Yu, disapproving of how he disregarded the lives of soldiers for the sake of taking credit.
Gao Xiu agreed with Lu Yu's plan. That night, Lu Yu sent the spy Liu Ming to secretly contact You Ran, tipping him off about Lu Yu's plan to attack the city that night. You Ran had his soldiers set up an ambush in advance, causing Lu Yu to retreat.
You Ran then had Liu Ming escort the captives back to the city and personally led his troops to chase Lu Yu, only to fall into the Wei army's ambush, where he was killed, and the Wei soldiers seized the opportunity to capture Liangzhou. You Ran was also killed in battle. Pei Yan received news of You Ran's death and decided to temporarily retreat to Moonfall City.
However, with Liangzhou and Moonfall being far apart, Cui Liang suggested using the easily defensible terrain of Mingyue Mountain to set up an ambush. Pei Yan sent An Cheng to meet up with Wei Zhao and Jiang Ci. Lu Yu led the Wei army in massacring the city, sparing neither the civilians nor the people of Moonfall. The civilians went to Wei Zhao for help. An Cheng arrived to meet up with Wei Zhao, but Lu Yu’s forces pursued them.
An Cheng instructed Jiang Ci and Wei Zhao to escort the civilians to safety while he led the Changfeng Guard in a final stand against Lu Yu. Pei Yan and Cui Liang led the Changfeng Guard and the civilians on a long journey, eventually reaching Mingyue Mountain. An Cheng fought valiantly but was outnumbered, and he was eventually struck down by multiple swords. Pei Yan led reinforcements but could only watch as An Cheng died in his arms.
Overcome with grief, Pei Yan was heartbroken; he and An Cheng had grown up together and were as close as brothers. Pei Yan brought An Cheng's body back to the camp, and everyone present was deeply moved. Tong Min was devastated, holding An Cheng's body and weeping bitterly. Pei Yan buried An Cheng and mourned at his grave.
Wei Zhao offered words of comfort, and Pei Yan vowed at An Cheng's grave that he would never let down the soldiers of Da Liang. Tong Min was overwhelmed with grief, crying constantly, and Yi Fei encouraged him to stay strong and move forward. The soldiers of the Changfeng Guard were furious, taking out their anger on the people and soldiers of Moonfall.
An Cheng had died protecting their retreat, but the Moonfall soldiers were not satisfied, leading to fierce clashes between the two sides. Hong Jie and Tong Min arrived just in time to stop the fighting. Pei Yan was deeply saddened when he thought about his brother An Cheng. He shut himself in his room. Jiang Ci, remembering her master Yan Shuangqiao’s tragic death, understood Pei Yan’s pain.
Once again, tensions flared between the soldiers of the Changfeng Guard and the soldiers of Moonfall, and just as they were about to fight, Wei Zhao and Pei Yan intervened. They urged both sides to unite and fight against the Wei invaders. With a great battle looming, Hong Jie, fearing for his safety on the battlefield, returned the white jade hairpin to Wei Zhao, asking him to take charge of Moonfall after the battle.
Hong Jie also confessed his feelings to Yu Lian, promising to marry her after the war, to which she happily agreed. Xie Che received word that Liangzhou had fallen and decided to lead troops into battle personally. The soldiers of Liang and Moonfall joined forces, setting up an ambush together.
A Liu noticed Liu Ming sneaking out of the camp and, unable to report to Wei Zhao in time, asked Jiang Ci to deliver the message before chasing after Liu Ming. Liu Ming had gone to betray them to Lu Yu, who then decided to make Lei Zhen the vanguard.
A Liu hurriedly arrived to surrender to Lu Yu, bringing half of the Phoenix Crossbow's blueprint as proof of his loyalty, and promised to lead Lu Yu to the other half. Lu Yu followed A Liu to Mingyue Mountain but, sensing something was wrong, tried to kill A Liu. Wei Zhao arrived just in time, and Xie Che took A Liu hostage, revealing that Xie Che had once been to Moonfall.
Eager to learn more, Wei Zhao agreed to spare Lu Yu, but Lu Yu didn’t believe him. A Liu, clutching Lu Yu, jumped off a cliff to his death. Wei Zhao, Pei Yan, and Cui Liang were discussing battle plans when they suddenly received word that Xie Che was leading the imperial army to personally join the battle.
The soldiers were greatly encouraged, but Wei Zhao sensed that Xie Che’s arrival might not be entirely good news, harboring a faint worry in his heart. Jiang Ci also knew that Xie Che’s real motive was to kill Wei Zhao, but she remained resolutely by his side.
